Considering the natural abundance and low cost of sodium resources, sodium‐ion batteries (SIBs) have received much attention for large‐scale electrochemical energy storage. However, smart structure design strategies and good mechanistic understanding are required to enable advanced SIBs with high energy density. In recent years, the exploration of advanced cathode, anode, and electrolyte materials, as well as advanced diagnostics have been extensively carried out. This review mainly focuses on the challenging problems for the attractive battery materials (i.e., cathode, anode, and electrolytes) and summarizes the latest strategies to improve their electrochemical performance as well as presenting recent progress in operando diagnostics to disclose the physics behind the electrochemical performance and to provide guidance and approaches to design and synthesize advanced battery materials. Outlook and perspectives on the future research to build better SIBs are also provided.  相似文献

The purpose of this work was to show how the quantitative definition of the different parameters involved in mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation makes it possible to characterize the mechanisms by which the yield of ATP synthesis is affected. Three different factors have to be considered: (i) the size of the different forces involved (free energy of redox reactions and ATP synthesis, proton electrochemical difference); (ii) the physical properties of the inner mitochondrial membrane in terms of leaks (H+ and cations); and finally (iii) the properties of the different proton pumps involved in this system (kinetic properties, regulation, modification of intrinsic stoichiometry).The data presented different situations where one or more of these parameters are affected, leading to a different yield of oxidative phosphorylation.(1) By manipulating the actual flux through each of the respiratory chain units at constant protonmotive force in yeast mitochondria, we show that the ATP/O ratio decreases when the flux increases. Moreover, the highest efficiency was obtained when the respiratory rate was low and almost entirely controlled by the electron supply. (2) By using almitrine in different kinds of mitochondria, we show that this drug leads to a decrease in ATP synthesis efficiency by increasing the H+/ATP stoichiometry of ATP synthase (Rigoulet M et al. Biochim Biophys Acta 1018: 91-97, 1990). Since this enzyme is reversible, it was possible to test the effect of this drug on the reverse reaction of the enzyme i.e. extrusion of protons catalyzed by ATP hydrolysis. Hence, we are able to prove that, in this case, the decrease in efficiency of oxidative phosphorylation is due to a change in the mechanistic stoichiometry of this proton pump. To our knowledge, this is the first example of a modification in oxidative phosphorylation yield by a change in mechanistic stoichiometry of one of the proton pumps involved. (3) In a model of polyunsaturated fatty acid deficiency in rat, it was found that non-ohmic proton leak was increased, while ohmic leak was unchanged. Moreover, an increase in redox slipping was also involved, leading to a complex picture. However, the respective role of these two mechanisms may be deduced from their intrinsic properties. For each steady state condition, the quantitative effect of these two mechanisms in the decrease of oxidative phosphorylation efficiency depends on the values of different fluxes or forces involved. (4) Finally the comparison of the thermokinetic data in view of the three dimensional-structure of some pumps (X-ray diffraction) also gives some information concerning the putative mechanism of coupling (i.e. redox loop or proton pump) and their kinetic control versus regulation of mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation.  相似文献

The life history of two Soleidae, the common sole, Solea solea, and the thickback sole, Microchirus variegatus, were compared in the Bay of Biscay in an attempt to set out factors which could explain settlement styles known to be different between juveniles of each species. Common sole juveniles had been shown to depend on coastal and estuarine nurseries, and the thickback sole to develop in open-sea nurseries, although the spawning grounds and spawning season of both species overlapped (offshore and at springtime, respectively). For this study, data on adult, juvenile and larva distributions were obtained from cruises carried out in the Bay of Biscay during the last decade. In addition, growth rate of larvae and planktonic interval duration, estimated by means of otolith increment analysis, were compared, as well as literature-derived information on behaviour of larvae. By comparing larval features, it appeared that thickback sole did not obtain the advantage of a slightly longer pelagic life span for an increased dispersal, due to an early shift to benthic behaviour. Other evidence was given by more specifically stated distributions that the further and deeper offshore spawning of M. variegatus, compared to S. solea, was a likely key-factor of the juvenile settlement process. This could explain why the thickback sole, contrary to the common sole, never reach coastal areas and thus settle offshore, in waters deeper than 30 m.  相似文献

Both nodulation and nitrogen fixation in soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] are sensitive to soil drying, which can have important negative effects on yield. An exception to this general response has been the identification of the cultivar Jackson as being drought tolerant for N2 fixation. The objectives of this research were to examine nodule formation and growth in Jackson among other soybean cultivars in response to soil drying under field conditions. Two field experiments were conducted to examine the genetic variation in the sensitivity of nodule numbers and dry weights to soil drying. Substantial variation among soybean lines was found, and the drought-tolerance trait was demonstrated again in Jackson. Greenhouse experiments were conducted to further analyze the variation of nodulation response to soil water content. The differences among cultivars observed in the field were confirmed in the greenhouse. Importantly, the relative drought insensitivity of N2 fixation in cultivar Jackson was associated with high individual nodule dry weight under drought conditions, relative to well-watered plants. It was concluded that large variation in nodulation sensitivity to water deficit exists among soybean cultivars and that the response of N2 fixation rates to drought is related in part to nodule formation and growth.  相似文献

The distribution and abundance of tonoplast intrinsic protein (γ-TIP), a putative aquaporin which is abundant in the tonoplast of osmoregulated pulvinus motor cells, were determined in nodules of Glycine max (L.) Merr. using chemical fixation and immunolocalization. This protein was highly expressed in the tonoplast of the inner cortical cells of the nodules but poorly expressed in the vascular transfer cells and in infected cells. It is concluded that the differentiation of the inner cortical cells of the nodules like that of pulvinus motor cells, is accompanied by an increased expression of γ-TIP. This result is consistent with our previous hypothesis that a reversible exchange of intercellular water by the inner cortical cells plays a role in the regulation of nodule conductance to O2 diffusion, and hence in subsequent N2-fixing activity. A Great Bustard Otis tarda survey carried out in spring 2015 in Morocco confirmed the decline of this highly endangered population. Bustards were only seen at two of the seven leks occupied ten years ago. The total number of birds counted was 40-44, which represents a 40% decline over the last decade. The sex-ratio was still strongly female-biased (1 male: 3 females), but less than in previous surveys, which suggests that trophy hunting has not been the major mortality cause in recent times. The productivity was 0.29-0.33 juveniles per female, the highest ever recorded in this population, suggesting that breeding success doesn’t represent the main problem for the survival of this population. Based on the recent development of the power line network at some areas, the main threat today is probably collision with power lines. Reducing this mortality cause should be considered a high conservation priority.  相似文献

The pathomechanisms underlying oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) diseases are not well-understood, but they involve maladaptive changes in mitochondria-nucleus communication. Many studies on the mitochondria-nucleus cross-talk triggered by mitochondrial dysfunction have focused on the role played by regulatory proteins, while the participation of miRNAs remains poorly explored. MELAS (mitochondrial encephalomyopathy, lactic acidosis, and stroke-like episodes) is mostly caused by mutation m.3243A>G in mitochondrial tRNALeu(UUR) gene. Adverse cardiac and neurological events are the commonest causes of early death in m.3243A>G patients. Notably, the incidence of major clinical features associated with this mutation has been correlated to the level of m.3243A>G mutant mitochondrial DNA (heteroplasmy) in skeletal muscle. In this work, we used a transmitochondrial cybrid model of MELAS (100% m.3243A>G mutant mitochondrial DNA) to investigate the participation of miRNAs in the mitochondria-nucleus cross-talk associated with OXPHOS dysfunction. High-throughput analysis of small-RNA-Seq data indicated that expression of 246 miRNAs was significantly altered in MELAS cybrids. Validation of selected miRNAs, including miR-4775 and miR-218-5p, in patient muscle samples revealed miRNAs whose expression declined with high levels of mutant heteroplasmy. We show that miR-218-5p and miR-4775 are direct regulators of fetal cardiac genes such as NODAL, RHOA, ISL1 and RXRB, which are up-regulated in MELAS cybrids and in patient muscle samples with heteroplasmy above 60%. Our data clearly indicate that TGF-β superfamily signaling and an epithelial-mesenchymal transition-like program are activated in MELAS cybrids, and suggest that down-regulation of miRNAs regulating fetal cardiac genes is a risk marker of heart failure in patients with OXPHOS diseases.  相似文献

Validation of parentage and horse breed registries through DNA typing relies on estimates of random match probabilities with DNA profiles generated from multiple polymorphic loci. Of the twenty-seven microsatellite loci recommended by the International Society for Animal Genetics for parentage testing in Thoroughbred horses, eleven are located on five chromosomes. An important aspect in determining combined exclusion probabilities is the ascertainment of the genetic linkage status of syntenic markers, which may affect reliable use of the product rule in estimating random match probabilities. In principle, linked markers can be in gametic phase disequilibrium (GD). We aimed at determining the extent, by frequency and strength, of GD between the HTG4 and HMS3 multiallelic loci, syntenic on chromosome 9. We typed the qualified offspring (n 1 = 27; n 2 = 14) of two Quarter Bred stallions (registered by the Brazilian Association of Quarter Horse Breeders) and 121 unrelated horses from the same breed. In the 41 informative meioses analyzed, the frequency of recombination between the HTG4 and HMS3 loci was 0.27. Consistent with genetic map distances, this recombination rate does not fit to the theoretical distribution for independently segregated markers. We estimated sign-based D′ coefficients as a measure of GD, and showed that the HTG4 and HMS3 loci are in significant, yet partial and weak, disequilibrium, with two allele pairs involved (HTG4*M/HMS3*P, D′(+) = 0.6274; and HTG4*K/HMS3*P, D′(−) = −0.6096). These results warn against the inadequate inclusion of genetically linked markers in the calculation of combined power of discrimination for Thoroughbred parentage validation.  相似文献

Fossil pollen data supplemented by tree macrofossil records were used to reconstruct the vegetation of the Former Soviet Union and Mongolia at 6000 years. Pollen spectra were assigned to biomes using the plant-functional-type method developed by Prentice et al . (1996). Surface pollen data and a modern vegetation map provided a test of the method. This is the first time such a broad-scale vegetation reconstruction for the greater part of northern Eurasia has been attempted with objective techniques. The new results confirm previous regional palaeoenvironmental studies of the mid-Holocene while providing a comprehensive synopsis and firmer conclusions. West of the Ural Mountains temperate deciduous forest extended both northward and southward from its modern range. The northern limits of cool mixed and cool conifer forests were also further north than present. Taiga was reduced in European Russia, but was extended into Yakutia where now there is cold deciduous forest. The northern limit of taiga was extended (as shown by increased Picea pollen percentages, and by tree macrofossil records north of the present-day forest limit) but tundra was still present in north-eastern Siberia. The boundary between forest and steppe in the continental interior did not shift substantially, and dry conditions similar to present existed in western Mongolia and north of the Aral Sea.  相似文献
