Perch Perca fluviatilis and roach Rutilus rutilus were caught at various locations around Lake Constance (Bodensee). Infection of perch and roach with the eyeflukes Diplostomum spathaceum and Tylodelphis clavata was greatest in the western location (Bottighofen). The varied occurrence of parasite species at different locations indicated that maximum interchange between fish populations was slight. Whitefish Coregonus lavaretus migrating up the River Rhine were less infected with both the tapeworm Proteocephalus exiguus and the copepod Ergasilus sieboldi than whitefish from the middle of the lake. Some of the parasites had already left their hosts. Newly established infections were not found in migrating whitefish.  相似文献

Rbt (Rabo torcido) is a new semidominant mouse mutant with a variety of skeletal abnormalities. Heterozygous Rbt mutants display homeotic anteroposterior patterning problems along the axial skeleton that resemble Polycomb group and trithorax gene mutations. In addition, the Rbt mutant displays strong similarities to the phenotype observed in Ts (Tail-short), indicating also a homeotically transformed phenotype in these mice. We have mapped the Rbt locus to an interval of approximately 6 cM on mouse Chromosome (Chr) 11 between microsatellite markers D11Mit128 and D11Mit103. The Ts locus was mapped within a shorter interval of approximately 3 cM between D11Mit128 and D11Mit203. This indicates that Rbt and Ts may be allelic mutations. Sox9, the human homolog of which is responsible for the skeletal malformation syndrome campomelic dysplasia, was mapped proximal to D11Mit128. It is, therefore, unlikely that Ts and Rbt are mouse models for this human skeletal disorder. Received: 14 April 1996 / Accepted: 22 July 1996  相似文献

The molecular pathways for fluid transport in pulmonary, oral,and nasal tissues are still unresolved. Here we use immunocytochemistry and immunoelectron microscopy to define the sites of expression of fouraquaporins in the respiratory tract and glandular epithelia, where theyreside in distinct, nonoverlapping sites. Aquaporin-1 (AQP1) is presentin apical and basolateral membranes of bronchial, tracheal, andnasopharyngeal vascular endothelium and fibroblasts. AQP5 is localizedto the apical plasma membrane of type I pneumocytes and the apicalplasma membranes of secretory epithelium in upper airway and salivaryglands. In contrast, AQP3 is present in basal cells of tracheal andnasopharyngeal epithelium and is abundant in basolateral membranes ofsurface epithelial cells of nasal conchus. AQP4 resides in basolateralmembranes of columnar cells of bronchial, tracheal, and nasopharyngealepithelium; in nasal conchus AQP4 is restricted to basolateralmembranes of a subset of intra- and subepithelial glands. These sitesof expression suggest that transalveolar water movement, modulation ofairway surface liquid, air humidification, and generation ofnasopharyngeal secretions involve a coordinated network of aquaporinwater channels.

Following the introduction of a spectrum of educational and related activites, a Gallup poll found that 98% of the survey population was aware of the debate over brain-vs-heart criteria and that 80% favoured the adoption of a supplemental brain-death standard... This raises the fundamental question of decisionmaking in pluralist democratic societies, of the limits of democratic involvement in such choices, and of the role of bodies like the Danish Council of Ethics... It must be part of the mission of a governmental bioethical body to use its peculiar expertise to teach and to lead -- to build a popular consensus out of confusion. The map position of Oct-4 on mouse chromosome 17 is between Q and T regions in the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC), and it is physically located within 35 kb of a class I gene. Several Oct-4-related genes are present in the murine genome; one of them maps to chromosome 9. The genomic structure and sequence of Oct-4 determined in t-haplotypes reveals five exons, and shows no significant changes in the t12 mutant haplotype making it unlikely that Oct-4 and the t12 early embryonic lethal are the same gene. By in situ hybridization, detectable onset of zygotic Oct-4 expression does not occur until compaction begins at 8-cells, suggesting that there might be other regulatory factors responsible for initiating Oct-4 expression.  相似文献

undulated (un) homozygous mice exhibit vertebral malformations along the entire rostro-caudal axis. Pax 1, a murine paired box-containing gene, is expressed in ventral sclerotome cells and later in intervertebral disks along the entire vertebral column. We localized the Pax 1 gene on chromosome 2 between beta 2-microglobulin and the agouti locus to an area where un maps. DNA analysis of the un mutant revealed a point mutation in a highly conserved part of the paired box of Pax 1, leading to a Gly-Ser replacement. The chromosomal location and the mutation in the paired box of un mice in conjunction with Pax 1 gene expression in wild-type mice implicate a causative role of Pax 1 in generation of the vertebral column.  相似文献

We have analysed various adult organs and different developmental stages of mouse embryos for the presence of octamer-binding proteins. A variety of new octamer-binding proteins were identified in addition to the previously described Oct1 and Oct2. Oct1 is ubiquitously present in murine tissues, in agreement with cell culture data. Although Oct2 has been described as a B-cell-specific protein, similar complexes were also found with extracts from brain, kidney, embryo and sperm. In embryo and brain at least two other proteins, Oct3 and Oct7, are present. A new microextraction procedure allowed the detection of two maternally expressed octamer-binding proteins, Oct4 and Oct5. Both proteins are present in unfertilized oocytes and embryonic stem cells, the latter containing an additional protein, Oct6. Whereas Oct4 was not found in sperm or testis, it is expressed in male and female primordial germ cells. Therefore Oct4 expression is specific for the female germline at later stages of germ cell development. Our results indicate that a family of octamer-binding proteins is present during mouse development and is differentially expressed during early embryogenesis. Protease clipping experiments of Oct4 and Oct1 suggest that both proteins contain similar DNA-binding domains.  相似文献

Tritrichomonas foetus is the causative agent of bovine trichomoniasis, a sexually transmitted disease in cattle that can result in large profit losses for cattle producers. Increasing reports have suggested that T. foetus is also the causative agent of large-bowel diarrhea in cats. To determine if the trichomonads recovered from the reproductive tract of cattle and the large intestine of cats can thrive in the same host, 2 groups of virgin Angus heifers were inoculated with T. foetus. The first group of heifers was inoculated with a bovine T. foetus isolate cultured from a naturally infected cow, and heifers in the second group were inoculated with T. foetus organisms cultured from the feces of a naturally infected cat. Over an 11-wk period, vaginal, cervical, and uterine mucus samples were analyzed, along with a single transcervical uterine biopsy sample, to determine organism and disease presence. The mucus and biopsy samples collected from each group indicate that the disease caused by feline and bovine isolates of T. foetus are comparable, but not identical.  相似文献
