鸟类鸣唱的功能通常是吸引配偶,对于建立繁殖隔离也是非常重要的。现有的研究认为鸟类鸣唱表演可能受到鸟类喙型变化的影响。达尔文鸣雀是一类用来验证喙型和鸣唱表演关系的模型物种,前人的研究认为较低的元音演奏与更大的喙相关。本文用在Floreana岛屿生活的达尔文小树雀(Camarhynchus parvulus)来验证喙型和元音演奏的关系。结果显示,喙型大小与元音演奏之间无相关性。这个发现与过去对小树雀中的研究结果相似,但却与达尔文鸣雀中更大体型的鸟类研究结果相反。讨论了研究结果在物种的生态分化和生态变异之间的前后关系。  相似文献

Epidemiological studies suggest that a moderate consumption of anthocyanins may be associated with protection against coronary heart disease. The main dietary sources of anthocyanins include red-coloured fruits and red wine. Although dietary anthocyanins comprise a diverse mixture of molecules, little is known how structural diversity relates to their bioavailability and biological function. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the absorption and metabolism of the 3-monoglucosides of delphinidin, cyanidin, petunidin, peonidin and malvidin in humans and to examine both the effect of consuming a red wine extract on plasma antioxidant status and on monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 production in healthy human subjects. After a 12-h overnight fast, seven healthy volunteers received 12 g of an anthocyanin extract and provided 13 blood samples in the 24 h following the test meal. Furthermore, urine was collected during this 24-h period. Anthocyanins were detected in their intact form in both plasma and urine samples. Other anthocyanin metabolites could also be detected in plasma and urine and were identified as glucuronides of peonidin and malvidin. Anthocyanins and their metabolites appeared in plasma about 30 min after ingestion of the test meal and reached their maximum value around 1.6 h later for glucosides and 2.5 h for glucuronides. Total urinary excretion of red wine anthocyanins was 0.05+/-0.01% of the administered dose within 24 h. About 94% of the excreted anthocyanins was found in urine within 6 h. In spite of the low concentration of anthocyanins found in plasma, an increase in the antioxidant capacity and a decrease in MCP-1 circulating levels in plasma were observed.  相似文献

Herein we report a successful application of a computer-aided design approach to identify a novel HCV helicase inhibitor. A de novo drug design methodology was used to generate an initial set of structures that could potentially bind to a putative binding site. Further structure refinement was carried out through docking a series of focused virtual libraries. The most promising compound was synthesised and it exhibited a submicromolar inhibition of the HCV helicase.  相似文献

The Mre11-Rad50-Nbs1 (MRN) complex is required for numerous cellular processes that involve interactions with DNA double-strand breaks. For the majority of these processes, the MRN complex is thought to act as a unit, with each protein aiding the activity of the others. We have examined the relationship between Mre11 and Rad50 during meiosis in the basidiomycete Coprinus cinereus (Coprinopsis cinerea), investigating to what extent activities of Mre11 and Rad50 are interdependent. We showed that mre11-1 is epistatic to rad50-1 with respect to the time of meiotic arrest, indicating that Mre11 activity facilitates the diffuse diplotene arrest of rad50 mutants. Anti-Mre11 and anti-Rad50 antibodies were used to examine MRN complex localization in a wild-type strain and in spo11, mre11, and rad50 mutants. In wild type, numbers of Mre11 and Rad50 foci peaked at time points corresponding to leptotene and early zygotene. In the spo11-1 mutant, which is defective in meiotic double-strand break formation, foci accumulated throughout prophase I. Of seven MRN mutants examined, only two rad50 strains exhibited Mre11 and Rad50 foci that localized to chromatin, although Mre11 protein was found in the cell for all of them. Analysis of predicted mutant structures showed that stable localization of Mre11 and Rad50 does not depend upon a wild-type hook-proximal coiled coil, but does require the presence of the Rad50 ATPase/adenylate cyclase domains. We found that Mre11 and Rad50 were interdependent for binding to meiotic chromosomes. However, the majority of foci observed apparently contained only one of the two proteins. Independent Mre11 and Rad50 foci might indicate disassociation of the complex during meiosis or could reflect independent structural roles for the two proteins in meiotic chromatin. Opuntia robusta has hermaphroditic, dioecious, and trioecious populations. To enhance our understanding of this breeding system diversity, we compared the reproductive output of males, females, and hermaphrodites in a trioecious population using field evaluations, controlled crosses, and progeny tests. Unisexuals were fully sterile in one sex function. Hermaphrodites were fully fertile for both functions. Consistent with the sex-allocation theory, unisexuality increased the quality and quantity (in males) of the gametes of the functional sex, relative to those of hermaphrodites, probably explained by maternal and paternal effects. The increase was higher in males than in females, suggesting a more expensive female function. Theoretically, this disproportional increase is required for unisexuals to invade a hermaphroditic population with prior selfing, negligible pollen discounting, and undetectable inbreeding depression, features found in O. robusta, therefore helping to explain dioecious populations. However, in the study population, the actual seed output of females was lower and had a higher variance than that of hermaphrodites, which also reproduce through pollen. Unisexuals are unlikely to be maintained by their actual reproductive output in this pollen-limited environment. Hermaphrodites may persist in this population by producing their seeds autonomously and by reducing interspecific fertilization by prior selfing and ovule discounting.  相似文献

The all-or-none kinetic model that we recently proposed for the antimicrobial peptide cecropin A is tested here for magainin 2. In mixtures of phosphatidylcholine (PC)/phosphatidylglycerol (PG) 50:50 and 70:30, release of contents from lipid vesicles occurs in an all-or-none fashion and the differences between PC/PG 50:50 and 70:30 can be ascribed mainly to differences in binding, which was determined independently and is ∼20 times greater to PC/PG 50:50 than to 70:30. Only one variable parameter, β, corresponding to the ratio of the rates of pore opening to pore closing, is used to fit dye release kinetics from these two mixtures, for several peptide/lipid ratios ranging from 1:25 to 1:200. However, unlike for cecropin A where it stays almost constant, β increases five times as the PG content of the vesicles increases from 30 to 50%. Thus, magainin 2 is more sensitive to anionic lipid content than cecropin A. But overall, magainin follows the same all-or-none kinetic model as cecropin A in these lipid mixtures, with slightly different parameter values. When the PG content is reduced to 20 mol %, dye release becomes very low; the mechanism appears to change, and is consistent with a graded kinetic model. We suggest that the peptide may be inducing formation of PG domains. In either mechanism, no peptide oligomerization occurs and magainin catalyzes dye release in proportion to its concentration on the membrane in a peptide state that we call a pore. We envision this structure as a chaotic or stochastic type of pore, involving both lipids and peptides, not a well-defined, peptide-lined channel.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the concentrations of copper, iron and zinc in blood serum of cats experimentally infected with Trypanosoma evansi. Animals were divided into two groups: control and infected with T. evansi. The animals were infected with 108 trypomastigotes each and parasitemia was estimated daily for 56 days by microscopic examination of smears. Hematological and biochemical parameters were evaluated for monitoring of the disease. Serum metal levels were determined in blood samples collected at days 7, 28 and 56 of the experiment. Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry was used to measure the levels of copper, iron and zinc. Significant differences were observed among groups (P < 0.05). Increased levels of copper and decreased iron and zinc levels were observed. A decrease in the number of red blood cells was also observed 7 days after inoculation. Biochemical parameters were not altered. Therefore, the infection by T. evansi might alter the serum metal levels, causing metabolic disturbances in cats.  相似文献
