A two years field study was conducted to explain the effect of Zn and lime application on morphological characteristics, rice yield and yield components, and more broadly, grains bio-fortification (Zn and protein content (CP), and amino acid profiles). The lime and Zn interaction increased grains and straw yield more than two times (6.64 ton ha?1) compared to the control (3.20 ton ha?1). The maximum increase in the Zn content of grain, white rice and bran was obtained about 30% in whole grain, 42% in bran and 56% in white rice. Furthermore, CP increased by about 8% in bran, 12.3% in whole grain, and 27% in white rice compared to control. Also, the Zn and lime application and their interaction were significantly increased the amino acids, especially essential parts.  相似文献

Variation of a VNTR in the DAT1 gene in seven ethnic groups of the Middle East was used to infer the history and affinities of these groups. The populations consisted of Assyrian, Jewish, Zoroastrian, Armenian, Turkmen, and Arab peoples of Iran, Iraq, and Kuwait. Three hundred forty subjects from these seven ethnic groups were screened for DAT1. DAT1 VNTR genotyping showed 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 alleles in the samples. Analysis of these data revealed differentiation and relationship among the populations. In this region, which covers an area of 2-2.5 million km2, the influence of geography and especially of linguistic characteristics has had potentially major effects on differentiation. Religion also has played a major role in imposing restrictions on some ethnic groups, who as a consequence have maintained their community. Overall, these ethnic groups showed greater heterogeneity compared to other populations.  相似文献

The protective properties of a prenylated coumarin, umbelliprenin (UMB), on the human lymphocytes DNA lesions were tested. Lymphocytes were isolated from blood samples taken from healthy volunteers. DNA breaks and resistance to H2O2-induced damage were measured using a single-cell microgel electrophoresis technique under alkaline conditions (comet assay). Human lymphocytes were incubated in UMB (10, 25, 50, 100, 200, and 400 μM) alone or a combination of different concentrations of UMB (10, 25, 50, 100, 200, and 400 μM) and 25 μM H2O2. Untreated cells, ascorbic acid (AA; 25, 50, 100, 200, and 400 μM) and H2O2 (25 μM) were considered as negative control, positive control, and the standard antioxidant agent for our study, respectively. Single cells were analyzed with “TriTek Cometscore version 1.5” software. The DNA damage was expressed as percent tail DNA. UMB exhibited a concentration-dependent increase in protection activity against DNA damage induced by 25 μM H2O2 (from 67.28% to 39.17%). The antigenotoxic activity of AA, in the range 0–50 μM, was greater than that of UMB. However, no significant difference (p > 0.05) in the protective activity was found between UMB and AA at concentrations of approximately higher than 50 μM.  相似文献

Background

Little is known about airway remodelling in bronchial biopsies (BB) in smokers and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). We conducted an initial pilot study comparing BB from COPD patients with nonsmoking controls. This pilot study suggested the presence of reticular basement membrane (Rbm) fragmentation and altered vessel distribution in COPD.

Methods

To determine whether Rbm fragmentation and altered vessel distribution in BB were specific for COPD we designed a cross-sectional study and stained BB from 19 current smokers and 14 ex-smokers with mild to moderate COPD and compared these to 15 current smokers with normal lung function and 17 healthy and nonsmoking subjects.

Results

Thickness of the Rbm was not significantly different between groups; although in COPD this parameter was quite variable. The Rbm showed fragmentation and splitting in both current smoking groups and ex-smoker COPD compared with healthy nonsmokers (p < 0.02); smoking and COPD seemed to have additive effects. Rbm fragmentation correlated with smoking history in COPD but not with age. There were more vessels in the Rbm and fewer vessels in the lamina propria in current smokers compared to healthy nonsmokers (p < 0.05). The number of vessels staining for vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in the Rbm was higher in both current smoker groups and ex-smoker COPD compared to healthy nonsmokers (p < 0.004). In current smoker COPD VEGF vessel staining correlated with FEV1% predicted (r = 0.61, p < 0.02).

Conclusions

Airway remodelling in smokers and mild to moderate COPD is associated with fragmentation of the Rbm and altered distribution of vessels in the airway wall. Rbm fragmentation was also present to as great an extent in ex-smokers with COPD. These characteristics may have potential physiological consequences.  相似文献

We present a new seed dormancy classification scheme for the non‐deep level of the class physiological dormancy (PD), which contains six types. Non‐deep PD is divided into two sublevels: one for seeds that exhibit a dormancy continuum (types 1, 2 and 3) and the other for those that do not exhibit a dormancy continuum (types 4, 5 and 6). Analysis of previous studies showed that different types of non‐deep PD also can be identified using a graphical method. Seeds with a dormancy (D) ? conditional dormancy (CD) ? non‐dormancy (ND) cycle have a low germination percentage in the early stages of CD, and during dormancy loss the germination capacity increases. However, seeds with a CD/ND (i.e. D→CD?ND) cycle germinate to a high percentage at a narrow range of temperatures in the early stages of CD. Cardinal temperatures for seeds with either a D/ND or a CD/ND cycle change during dormancy loss: the ceiling temperature increases in seeds with Type 1, the base temperature decreases in seeds with Type 2 and the base and ceiling temperatures decrease and increase, respectively, in seeds with Type 3. Criteria for distinguishing the six types of non‐deep PD and models of the temperature functions of seeds with types 1, 2 and 3 with both types of dormancy cycles are presented. The relevancy of our results to modelling the timing of weed seedling emergence is briefly discussed.  相似文献

The effect of modified Fenton oxidation using synthesized hematite nanoparticles and sodium pyrophosphate as a chelating agent was investigated for the pretreatment of pyrene-contaminated soil in a sequence with bioremediation. Synthesized hematite nanoparticles comprised hematite according to X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, with particle sizes ranging between 28 and 55 nm. Three pyrene-degrading bacteria, Bacillus cereus, Acidovorax wohlfahrtii, and Bacillus thuringiensis, were isolated from hydrocarbon-contaminated soil and used as inoculums for the bioremediation. A sequence of modified Fenton oxidation-bioremediation using a synthesized hematite nanoparticles dosage of 30 mM and H2O2 concentration of 300 mM significantly enhanced the pyrene removal rate to 96%, 87%, and 82% compared to 88%, 59%, and 37%, which were obtained during the bioremediation alone for synthetically fresh, aged, and naturally contaminated soil with initial pH 7, respectively. The results of kinetic studies indicated that modified Fenton oxidation of pyrene-contaminated soil was best fitted with a pseudo-first order kinetic model. Consequently, a sequence of modified Fenton-bioremediation can effectively remediate polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon-contaminated sites in a shorter reaction time than bioremediation alone.  相似文献
