Colloidal quantum dots are promising materials for flexible solar cells, as they have a large absorption coefficient at visible and infrared wavelengths, a band gap that can be tuned across the solar spectrum, and compatibility with solution processing. However, the performance of flexible solar cells can be degraded by the loss of charge carriers due to recombination pathways that exist at a junction interface as well as the strained interface of the semiconducting layers. The modulation of the charge carrier transport by the piezoelectric effect is an effective way of resolving and improving the inherent material and structural defects. By inserting a porous piezoelectric poly(vinylidenefluoride‐trifluoroethylene) layer so as to generate a converging electric field, it is possible to modulate the junction properties and consequently enhance the charge carrier behavior at the junction. This study shows that due to a reduction in the recombination and an improvement in the carrier extraction, a 38% increase in the current density along with a concomitant increase of 37% in the power conversion efficiency of flexible quantum dots solar cells can be achieved by modulating the junction properties using the piezoelectric effect.  相似文献

Lactobacillus plantarum is one of the widely-used probiotics and there have been a large number of advanced researches on the effectiveness of this species. However, the difference between previously reported plantarum strains, and the source of genomic variation among the strains were not clearly specified. In order to understand further on the molecular basis of L. plantarum on Korean traditional fermentation, we isolated the L. plantarum GB-LP4 from Korean fermented vegetable and conducted whole genome assembly. With comparative genomics approach, we identified the candidate genes that are expected to have undergone evolutionary acceleration. These genes have been reported to associate with the maintaining homeostasis, which are generally known to overcome instability in external environment including low pH or high osmotic pressure. Here, our results provide an evolutionary relationship between L. plantarum species and elucidate the candidate genes that play a pivotal role in evolutionary acceleration of GB-LP4 in high osmolarity environment. This study may provide guidance for further studies on L. plantarum.  相似文献

Plasma T4 (L-thyroxine) concentrations in the viviparous rockfish Sebastes inermis showed a peak (119·3±27·8 ng ml−1) during the development of embryos. Ovarian T4 concentrations increased during vitellogenesis and final maturation and decreased during embryogenesis.However, total T4 content within the ovary increased continuously up to the larval stages. Plasma oestradiol-17β, (E2) concentrations peaked at the final maturation stage and then recovered to the level seen during the non-reproductive periods. Plasma testosterone (T) concentrations showed a peak (5·33±1·08 ng ml−1) at the embryo stage and high levels were maintained throughout the gestation period. Plasma T4 concentrations during the embryo stage and ovarian T4 content during vitellogenesis were much higher than the levels reported in oviparous fishes. These data suggest that in viviparous rockfish, T4 may be required for sustaining gestation or embryo development within the maternal body. In addition, the high content of total T4 in the ovary implies that there probably does exist a maternal-embryo relationship during gestation as well as during vitellogenesis.  相似文献

Matrix extracellular phosphoglycoprotein (MEPE) is an extracellular matrix protein found in dental and skeletal tissues. Although information regarding the role of MEPE in bone and disorders of phosphate metabolism is emerging, the role of MEPE in dental tissues remains unclear. We performed RNA in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry analyses to delineate the expression pattern of MEPE during embryonic and postnatal development in craniofacial mineralizing tissues. Mepe RNA expression was seen within teeth from cap through root formation in association with odontoblasts and cellular cementoblasts. More intense expression was seen in the alveolar bone within the osteoblasts and osteocytes. MEPE immunohistochemistry showed biphasic dentin staining in incisors and more intense staining in alveolar bone matrix and in forming cartilage. Analysis of Mepe null mouse molars showed overall mineralized tooth volume and density of enamel and dentin comparable with that of wild-type samples. However, Mepe-/- molars exhibited increased thickness of predentin, dentin, and enamel over controls and decreased gene expression of Enam, Bsp, Dmp1, Dspp, and Opn by RT-PCR. In vitro Mepe overexpression in odontoblasts led to significant reductions in Dspp reporter activity. These data suggest MEPE may be instrumental in craniofacial and dental matrix maturation, potentially functioning in the maintenance of non-mineralized matrix.  相似文献

Human sparganosis is a zoonotic disease caused by infection with larval forms (procercoid/plerocercoid) of Spirometra spp. The purpose of this study was to identify Spirometra spp. of infected snakes using a multiplex PCR assay and phylogenetic analysis of mitochondrial DNA sequence data from the spargana of terrestrial snakes obtained from Korea and China. A total of 283 snakes were obtained that included 4 species of Colubridae comprising Rhabdophis tigrinus tigrinus (n=150), Dinodon rufozonatum rufozonatum (n=64), Elaphe davidi (n=2), and Elaphe schrenkii (n=7), and 1 species of Viperidae, Agkistrodon saxatilis (n=60). The snakes were collected from the provinces of Chungbuk, Chungnam, and Gyeongbuk in Korea (n=161), and from China (n=122). The overall infection rate with spargana was 83% (235/283). The highest was recorded for D. rufozonatum rufozonatum (100%), followed by A. saxatilis (85%) and R. tigrinus tigrinus (80%), with a negative result for E. davidi (0%) and E. schrenkii (0%). The sequence identities between the spargana from snakes (n=50) and Spirometra erinaceieuropaei (KJ599680) or S. decipiens (KJ599679) control specimens were 90.8% and 99.2%, respectively. Pairwise genetic distances between spargana (n=50) and S. decipiens ranged from 0.0080 to 0.0107, while those between spargana and S. erinaceieuropaei ranged from 0.1070 to 0.1096. In this study, all of the 904 spargana analyzed were identified as S. decipiens either by a multiplex PCR assay (n=854) or mitochondrial cox1 sequence analysis (n=50).  相似文献

In recent years, there have been considerable efforts to search for naturally occurring substances for intervention of carcinogenesis. Many components from medicinal or dietary plants have been identified to possess potential chemopreventive properties. For instance, curcumin, a yellow colouring agent from turmeric (Curcuma longa Linn., Zingiberaceae) has been shown to inhibit tumor formation in diverse animal models. Alpinia oxyphylla Miquel that also belongs to ginger family has been used in oriental herbal medicine. In the present work, we have evaluated the anti-tumor promoting potential of yakuchinone A (1-[4'-hydroxy-3'-methoxyphenyl]-7-phenyl-3-heptanone) and yakuchinone B (1-[4'-hydroxy-3'-methoxyphenyl]-7-phenylhept-1-en-3-one), major pungent ingredients of A. oxyphylla. Thus, topical application of yakuchinone A or B significantly suppressed TPA-induced epidermal ornithine decarboxylase activity. They also reduced TPA-stimulated production of tumor necrosis factor-alpha in cultured human promyelocytic leukemia (HL-60) cells. Both compounds blunted the TPA-induced superoxide generation in differentiated HL-60 cells in a concentration-related manner and also inhibited lipid peroxidation in rat brain homogenates. Furthermore, yakuchinone A and yakuchinone B nullified the activation of the activator protein-1 (AP-1) in immortalized mouse fibroblast cells in culture. These findings indicate that pungent diarylheptanoids from A. oxyphylla have anti-tumor promotional properties that can contribute to their chemopreventive potential.  相似文献

To facilitate the selection of multiple gene integrants in Hansenula polymorpha, a rapid and copy-number-controlled selection system was developed using a vector containing a telomeric autonomous replication sequence and the bacterial aminoglycoside 3-phosphotransferase (APH) gene. Direct use of the unmodified APH gene as a dominant selectable marker resulted in the extremely slow growth of transformants and the frequent selection of spontaneous resistance. For the proper performance of the APHgene, a set of deleted glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) promoters of H. polymorpha were fused to the APH gene. The fusion construct with the 578-bp GAPDH promoter conferred G418 resistance sufficient to allow rapid growth of transformants, and thus facilitated the selection of transformants with up to 15 tandem copies of the vector. To increase further the integration copy number within the gene-dose-dependent range, the GAPDHpromoter was serially deleted down to the −61 nucleotide. With this weak expression cassette, the integration copy number could easily be controlled between 1 and 50. Tandemly integrated copies of plasmids near the end of the chromosome were mitotically stable over l50 generations. The dosage-dependent selection system of this study would provide a powerful tool for the development of H. polymorpha as an industrial strain to produce recombinant proteins. We have developed a polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based assay that could effectively reduce the time period required to screen and select the cold tolerance gene of rice seedlings under field conditions. The two specific random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) fragments for the assay were identified on the basis of quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis which were found to be tightly linked to cold sensitivity. The two RAPD fragments, OPT8(600) in the cold sensitivity rice cultivar 'Dular (indica)' and OPU20(1200) in the resistance rice cultivar 'Toyohatamochi (japonica)', were identified after screening 11 RAPD fragments using 2 random primers on the genomic DNAs of 'Dular' and 'Toyohatamochi'. These primers, when used in a multiplexed PCR, specifically amplified a 0.6 kb and a 1.2 kb fragment in the sensitive and resistant rice cultivars, respectively. When this assay was performed on the genomic DNAs of 16 japonica, 3 Tongil (indica/ japonica), and 2 indica rice cultivars, the primers amplified a 0.6 kb fragment in all of the cold sensitivity rice cultivars or 1.2 kb fragment in all of the resistance ones. These markers can be of potential use in the marker-assisted selection (MAS) for cold tolerance in rice seedling. As screening for resistance can now be conducted independent of the availability of low temperature, the breeding of cold tolerance cultivars can be hastened.  相似文献
