Seed priming increases tolerance of plants against various environmental stresses. Although ample literature is available that depicts the beneficial effects of priming under different environmental stresses, the information on induction of tolerance to Pb stress through seed priming with ascorbic acid (AsA) is limited. Therefore, this study was performed to examine the effect of seed priming with AsA (50 and 100 mg L?1), hydropriming and without priming (control) on physiochemical processes of okra cultivars (Subz-Pari and Arka Anamika) under Pb stress (0, 100 mg L?1). Pb stress caused a considerable decline in plant growth and photosynthetic pigments. Contrarily, Pb stress exhibited rise in the contents of total amino acids, free proline, total soluble proteins and AsA. The POD, CAT, and SOD activities were recorded highest at 100 mg L?1 of Pb. Moreover, Pb stress markedly increased H2O2 and MDA levels that triggered oxidative stress. However, plants raised from seed primed with AsA and water exhibited better growth and had higher chlorophylls, free proline, total proteins, total amino acids, AsA and activities of enzymatic antioxidants. Priming with AsA (50 mg L?1) induced better tolerance to Pb stress in okra plants. Plants of cv. Arka Anamika exhibited greater tolerance to Pb than that of cv. Subz-Pari as was evident from higher plant fresh and dry masses.  相似文献

The intensity-difference limen (DL) for an acoustic click rises at moderate click levels, a feature called the 'mid-level hump'. It has long been hypothesized that, because a click does not evoke sustained firing in any primary afferent, the DL must therefore originate from the initial burst of synchronized spikes in the eighth nerve. That burst causes the N1 component of the peripheral compound action potential (CAP). It should therefore be possible to predict click DLs from N1 potentials. Here, a Signal Detection model, using a series expansion, was used to derive equations in N1 for the level-dependence of the DL. The first-order equation predicts a dependence on the standard deviation of N1, and an inverse dependence on the rate-of-growth of the mean N1. The second-order equation is more complicated. Both approximations were applied to N1s from the cat. Both produced a mid-level hump; at its peak, the DLs from the second-order approximation were the smaller ones, and were of the same order of magnitude as the empirical DLs. Overall, the computations show that the rate-of-growth of the mean N1, not the standard deviation of N1, determines the hump in the empirical DL.  相似文献

Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tb) has evolved mechanisms to evade its destruction in phagolysosomes, where it successfully survives and replicates within phagocytes. Recent studies have shown that virulent strains of M.tb can translocate from the phagosome into the cytosol of dendritic cells (DC). The molecular mechanisms by which virulent M.tb strains can escape the phagosome remain unknown. Here we show that the virulent M.tb strain H37Rv, but not the vaccine strain Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG), escapes from the phagolysosome and enters the cytosol by interfering with the TLR-2-MyD88 signaling pathway. Using H37Rv mutants, we further demonstrate that the region of difference-1 (RD-1) locus and ESAT-6, a gene within the RD-1 locus, play an important role in the capacity of M.tb to migrate from the phagosome to the cytosol of macrophages. H37Rv, BCG, H37RvΔRD1, and H37RvΔESAT6 were able to translocate to the cytosol in macrophages derived from TLR-2- and MyD88-deficient animals, whereas only virulent H37Rv was able to enter the cytosol in macrophages from wild type mice. Therefore, signaling through the TLR-2–MyD88 pathway in macrophages plays an important role in confining M.tb within phagolysomes. Virulent strains of M.tb have evolved mechanisms to subvert this pathway, thus facilitating their translocation to the cytosol and to escape the toxic microenvironment of the phagosome or phagolysosome.  相似文献

The severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is affected by meteorological parameters such as temperature and humidity. It is also observed that people having asthma are at risk for SARS. Therefore, it is of interest to report the effect of environmental, economic, and health factors on the spread of CoVid-19. We used data reporting CoVid-19 cases from 24 cities in eight different countries for this analysis. Data was analyzed using multiple linear regressions between these parameters. Data shows that temperature has effects on CoVid-19. A one-degree rise in temperature causes a -0.19 decrease in CoVid-19 cases per million people (log natural value per million populations). The effect of humidity is not significant at a p value of 0.26. Moreover, one-unit increase in asthma and GDP cases per million people show 0.06 and 0.46 increases in CoVid-19 cases, respectively.  相似文献

, and 1992. Ultrastructure and histochemistry of the lymph system and parenchyma of juvenile paramphistomes (Paramphistomidae: Digenea) during migration in Indian ruminants. International Journal for Parasitology 22: 1117–1135. The lymph system of juvenile Paramphistomum epiclitum and Fischoederius elongatus consists of a single pair of longitudinal primary vessels from which sub-dividing branches extend laterally to associate with most major tissues and organs. The system originates shortly after excystation in the definitive host and is fully developed in day 14 juveniles. Lymph vessels are syncytial and membrane limited, with a matrix which contains autophagic-like inclusions, clusters of SER and free nuclei. Similar organelies are evident in the matrix of parenchyma and specialized cells juxta-posing the pharynx (JP cells). These tissues are intimately associated and perhaps functionally integrated. Parenchyma represents a major site for carbohydrate storage and turnover, whilst the lymph appears to perform a similar role for proteins. The JP cells of juveniles display prolific autophagic-like activity only during migration, which coincides with the depletion of carbohydrate reserves in parenchyma. Key mitochondrial enzymes were histochemically demonstrated in the lymph despite the apparent absence of mitochondria from this system in post-day 14 juveniles. Succinate dehydrogenase activity was cytolocalized in mitochondria, whilst attempts to perform a similar localization of this enzyme in lymph were unsuccessful. The possibility of non-enzymatic interference in the histochemical demonstration of dehydrogenase is examined.  相似文献
