Short-term changes occurring in high mountain vegetation were analysed using the data from two Italian sites already part of the GLobal Observation Research Initiative in Alpine environments (GLORIA – central Apennines and southwestern Alps). The study focused on a set of floristic (endemics), structural (life forms) and ecological (thermic vegetation indicator) variables. Vegetation data were collected according to the GLORIA multi-summit standardized method during the last decade. The re-visitation revealed a moderate decrease in regional endemic flora and significant variations in structural and ecological parameters. The increase in caespitose hemicryptophytes in both sites, in suffruticose chamaephytes in the central Apennines and in rosette-forming hemicryptophytes in the southwestern Alps emerged, highlighting the rapid responses of the alpine vegetation to climate warming. The increase in perennial life forms is related with the expansion of graminoids and small woody plants. These life forms seem to be most suitable to face climate warming in Italian summits. The increase in the thermic vegetation indicator exceeds the mean European summits increment, and this is due to the expansion of thermophilic species. Short-term analyses with fine spatial and temporal resolutions are still necessary to improve our understanding concerning species behaviour in high-elevation ecosystems.  相似文献

Two DNA recombinant clones, shown by separate studies to contain DNA sequences homologous to the genes coding for the human blood coagulation Factors VIII and IX, were hybridized in situ to metaphases or prometaphases derived from patients with the fragile-X syndrome and from a normal control. The results of these experiments indicate that (i) both genes are located in the subtelomeric region of the long arm of the human X chromosome flanking the fragile site at Xq27.3, (ii) the resolution of this localization is approximately 0.5% the length of the human haploid genome, i.e., 1.8 X 10(7) bp, (iii) the linear order of loci within the above region is Factor IX-fragile site-Factor VIII-Xqter. Both the localization and the linear order of these loci have been confirmed by Southern blotting studies using the same molecular probes and a panel of rodent-human somatic cell hybrids known to have retained different segments of the human X chromosome. The findings described herein and the knowledge that Factor IX deficiency recombines freely with at least two loci of the G6PD cluster support our hypothesis that the chromosomal region which includes the fragile-X site is normally a region of high meiotic recombination.  相似文献

The structural and growth polarities of centrosomal and chromosomal microtubules were studied by analyzing the kinetics of growth of these microtubules and those initiated by flagellar seeds. By comparing rates of elongation of centrosomal and flagellar-seeded microtubules, we determined whether the centrosomal microtubules were free to grow at their plus ends only, minus ends ony, or at both ends. Our results show that centrosomal microtubules elongate at a rate corresponding to the addition of subunits at the plus end only. The depolymerization rate was also equivalent to that for the plus end only. Chromosomal microtubule elongation was similar to the centrosome-initiated growth. Since the data do not support the hypothesis that both ends of these spindle microtubules are able to interact with monomer in solution, then growth must occur only distal or only proximal to the organizing centers, implying tha the opposite ends in unavailable for exchange of subunits. Experiments with flagellar-seeded microtubules serving as internal controls indicated that the inactivity of the minus end could not be accounted for by a diffusible inhibitor, suggesting a structural explanation. Since there is no apparent way in which the distal ends may be capped, whereas the proximal ends are embedded in the pericentriolar cloud, we conclude that centrosomal microtubules are oriented with their plus ends distal to the site of nucleation. A similar analysis for chromosomal microtubules suggests that they too must be oriented with their plus ends distal to the site of initiation.  相似文献

The patterns of monosaccharide distribution of the mucilages of Cycadales are characteristic at the generic level. Arabinose, fucose, galactose, mannose, rhamnose and methylrhamnose were identified in the hydrolysed mucilage of Bowenia, Ceratozamia, Cycas, Dioon, Encephalartos, Lepidozamia, Macrozamia, Microcycas and Zamia. Stangeria contains no rhamnose and methylrhamnose, and Ceratozamia contains galactose only in traces. American genera may easily be distinguished from the others by means of their different monosaccharide composition. Lepidozamia appears to be well separated from Macrozamia.  相似文献

Two male sibs believed to be examples of meiotic recombinants between the closely linked loci for G6PD deficiency of Mediterranean type and severe deutan color blindness proved to be simple segregants of a triplo-X mother of genotype d--GdMediterranean/d+GdMediterranean/d+GdB. Most studies of the genetic structure of Atlantic cod have focused on small geographical scales. In the present study, the genetic structure of cod sampled on spawning grounds in the North Atlantic was examined using eight microsatellite loci and the Pan I locus. A total of 954 cod was collected from nine different regions: the Baltic Sea, the North Sea, the Celtic Sea, the Irish Sea and Icelandic waters during spring 2002 and spring 2003, from Norwegian waters and the Faroe Islands (North and West spawning grounds) in spring 2003, and from Canadian waters in 1998. Temporal stability among spawning grounds was observed in Icelandic waters and the Celtic Sea, and no significant difference was observed between the samples from the Baltic Sea and between the samples from Faroese waters. F -statistics showed significant differences between most populations and a pattern of isolation-by-distance was described with microsatellite loci. The Pan I locus revealed the presence of two genetically distinguishable basins, the North-west Atlantic composed of the Icelandic and Canadian samples and the North-east Atlantic composed of all other samples. Permutation of allele sizes at each microsatellite locus among allelic states supported a mutational component to the genetic differentiation, indicating a historical origin of the observed variation. Estimation of the time of divergence was approximately 3000 generations, which places the origin of current genetic pattern of cod in the North Atlantic in the late Weichselian (Wisconsinian period), at last glacial maximum.  © 2008 The Linnean Society of London, Biological Journal of the Linnean Society , 2008, 94 , 315–329.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The internal transcribed spacers (ITS) of the ribosomal DNA gene of 11 taxa of the genus Artemisia were sequenced and compared with other 14 species taken from GenBank. The aims of this study are to clarify phylogenetic relationships for 25 taxa within the genus Artemisia, and to highlight the phylogenetic position of some species of geobotanical interest from the Alps or from other European areas. The results support the monophyly of the genus Artemisia, and the presence of the five main clades, corresponding to the morphologically based sections, Absinthium, Artemisia, Seriphidium, Dracunculus and Tridentatae. Only A. annua and A. genipi are not classified in the section in which they were traditionally included: A. annua is assigned to Seriphidium and not Artemisia, and A. genipi to Absinthium and not Artemisia. The basal structure of the tree differed in the 45 equally parsimonious MP trees, and thus appeared as a polytomy in the consensus tree. This does not allow us to completely solve the relationships among the clades. The molecular data are complementary with the morphological and biogeographical information and all are essential to draw valid conclusions on the relative closeness of the various taxa.  相似文献

The construction of ski-pistes can cause serious damage to all the components of an ecosystem and may therefore be considered as one of the main causes of human-driven environmental changes in mountain habitats. This study was aimed at assessing the responses of different ground dwelling arthropod assemblages (i.e. ground beetles, spiders and grasshoppers) to ski-piste restoration through hydroseeding with commercial seed mixtures. The soil, vegetation and arthropods of restored and un-restored ski-pistes and the adjacent grassland have been sampled at two high altitude sites in the north-western Italian Alps. The ski-piste soil was characterized by a higher skeletal content and, consequently, a lower amount of fine earth and organic matter than that of the undisturbed adjacent grassland. The plant cover of the restored ski-pistes was very low above 2,500 m a.s.l.; the vegetation cover below this threshold was higher in the study area, mainly due to the seeded species. The unrestored ski-pistes showed very large proportions of bare ground. The responses of the three ground-dwelling arthropod groups to vegetation conditions were different. GLMMs and IndVal analyses showed that all three groups avoided the unrestored ski-pistes plots, which were characterized by a very scarce vegetation cover, irrespective of the altitude. The low altitude plots of the restored ski-pistes, which were characterized by a high vegetation cover, had a significantly larger number of grasshoppers on the ski-pistes than on the adjacent grassland plots. Moreover, these restored ski-piste plots were used in equal proportion to the adjacent grassland plots by ground beetles but avoided by spiders. When ski-pistes become sufficiently revegetated by hydroseeded plants, they are colonized by grasshoppers and, to a lesser extent, by ground-beetles. Spiders, instead, do not colonize the pistes, thus demonstrating that they are the most sensitive arthropods and may therefore represent the best indicators of human-driven environmental changes in high altitude alpine habitats.  相似文献
