Activity of agmatine iminohydrolase present in the embryo of germinating Groundnut seeds was reduced by removal of both of the cotyledons after soaking of the seeds, but removal of one cotyledon had no effect. The enzyme activity in the cotyledons and the embryo was decreased by feeding ethrel and ethylene chlorohydrin to the seedlings. The enzyme activity was inhibited when polyamines were added to the assay mixture but feeding these amines to the seedlings had no effect on the enzyme activity.  相似文献

Climate feedbacks from soils can result from environmental change followed by response of plant and microbial communities, and/or associated changes in nutrient cycling. Explicit consideration of microbial life-history traits and functions may be necessary to predict climate feedbacks owing to changes in the physiology and community composition of microbes and their associated effect on carbon cycling. Here we developed the microbial enzyme-mediated decomposition (MEND) model by incorporating microbial dormancy and the ability to track multiple isotopes of carbon. We tested two versions of MEND, that is, MEND with dormancy (MEND) and MEND without dormancy (MEND_wod), against long-term (270 days) carbon decomposition data from laboratory incubations of four soils with isotopically labeled substrates. MEND_wod adequately fitted multiple observations (total C–CO2 and 14C–CO2 respiration, and dissolved organic carbon), but at the cost of significantly underestimating the total microbial biomass. MEND improved estimates of microbial biomass by 20–71% over MEND_wod. We also quantified uncertainties in parameters and model simulations using the Critical Objective Function Index method, which is based on a global stochastic optimization algorithm, as well as model complexity and observational data availability. Together our model extrapolations of the incubation study show that long-term soil incubations with experimental data for multiple carbon pools are conducive to estimate both decomposition and microbial parameters. These efforts should provide essential support to future field- and global-scale simulations, and enable more confident predictions of feedbacks between environmental change and carbon cycling.  相似文献

We tested whether consumption of a high-fat, high-sucrose (HFS) diet can affect endothelium-dependent relaxation, whether this precedes the development of diet-induced hypertension previously noted in this model, and whether it is mediated, in part, by changes in nitric oxide synthase (NOS) and/or NOS regulatory proteins. Female Fischer rats were fed either a HFS diet or standard low-fat, complex-carbohydrate chow starting at 2 mo of age for 7 mo. Vasoconstrictive response to KCl and phenylephrine was similar in both groups. Vasorelaxation to acetylcholine was significantly impaired in the HFS animals, and there were no differences in relaxation to sodium nitroprusside, suggesting that the endothelial dysfunction is due, at least in part, to nitric oxide deficiency. HFS consumption decreased protein expression of endothelial NOS in aorta, renal, and heart tissues, neuronal NOS in kidney, heart, aorta, and brain, and inducible NOS in heart and aorta. Caveolin-1 and soluble guanylate cyclase protein expression did not change, but AKT protein expression decreased in heart and aorta and increased in kidney tissue. Consumption of HFS diet raised brain carbonyl content and plasma hydrogen peroxide concentration and diminished plasma total antioxidant capacity. Because blood pressure, which is known to eventually rise in this model, was not as yet significantly elevated, the present data suggest that endothelial dysfunction precedes the onset of diet-induced hypertension. The lack of a quantitative change in caveolin-1 and soluble guanylate cyclase protein content indicates that alteration in these proteins is not responsible for the endothelial dysfunction. Thus nitric oxide deficiency combined with antioxidant/oxidant imbalance, appears to be a primary factor in the development of endothelial dysfunction in this model.  相似文献

Gray slender lorises (Loris lydekkerianus) are 1 of 2 nocturnal primate genera occurring in India. Although the distribution and abundance of the species is known for some parts of southern India, the relative distribution of the 2 subspecies, Loris lydekkerianus lydekkerianus and L. l. malabaricus, and their comparative densities and extent of overlap between their distributions remains largely unknown. We investigated the distribution pattern and relative density of slender lorises in the Western Ghats mountain range in the state of Kerala in southern India. We surveyed 36 forest ranges in 17 forest divisions of northern and central Kerala from February to November 2009 for the presence of lorises. We sighted slender lorises in 22 forest ranges in a variety of vegetation types, and the relative abundance of the species ranged from 0.02 to 1.44 lorises/km. Our results confirm that both loris subspecies are present in Kerala: Mysore slender lorises have a narrow patchy distribution on the eastern edges of the Western Ghats mountain range, and Malabar slender lorises have a fairly contiguous distribution on the western slopes of the Western Ghats. We recommend more detailed surveys in southern Kerala to identify the distribution patterns of the subspecies in these areas.  相似文献

Uptake hydrogenase activity in nodules of green gram (Vigna radiata (L.) (Wilczek)), black gram (Vigna mungo (L.) (Hepper)), cowpea (Vigna unguiculata (L.) and cluster bean (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) (Taub.)), formed with two Hup+ (S24 and CT2014) and one Hup (M11)Rhizobium strains, was determined at different levels of external H2 in air atmosphere. Nodules of all the 4 host species formed by inoculation with strains S24 and CT2014, showed H2 uptake but not those formed with strain M11. H2 uptake rates were higher in 1 and 2% H2 in air atmosphere (v/v) than at 5 or 10% levels in all the host species. Variations in the relative rates of H2 uptake were observed both, due to host species as well as due toRhizobium strains. However, no host dependent complete repression of the expression of H2 uptake activity was observed in nodules of any of the host species formed with Hup+ strains.  相似文献

Five salinity tolerant Azotobacter strains i.e., ST3, ST6, ST9, ST17 and ST24 were obtained from saline soils. These Azotobacter strains were used as inoculant for wheat variety WH157 in earthen pots containing saline soil under pot house conditions, using three fertilizer treatment doses i.e., control (no fertilizer, no inoculation), 90 Kg N ha−1 and 120 Kg N ha−1. Inoculation with salinity tolerant Azotobacter strains caused significant increase in total nitrogen, biomass and grain yield of wheat. Maximum increase in plant growth parameters were obtained after inoculation with Azotobacter strain ST24 at fertilization dose of 120 kg N ha−1 and its inoculation resulted in attaining 89.9 cms plant height, 6.1 g seed yield, 12.0 g shoot dry weight and 0.7 % total nitrogen. The survival of Azotobacter strain ST24 in the soil was also highest in all the treatments at 30, 60 and 90 days after sowing (DAS). However, the population of Azotobacter decreased on 90 DAS as compared to counts observed at 60 DAS at all the fertilization treatments.  相似文献
