A comparative ultrastructural study of muscle cells from several turbellarian species revealed a basic smooth type of construction,
with thick and thin myofilaments. However, the distribution of contractile elements, "dense bodies", smooth reticulum, mitochondria,
as well as junctional specializations was found to vary within different systems. This variability is probably related to
greater or lesser physical demands on the musculature. From a mechanical viewpoint, the most ‘powerful’ muscular system studied
was represented by the pharyngeal bulb of Geocentrophora applanata, in which muscle fibers were organized into a compact,
square reticulum, hemidesmosomes occurred in large numbers, and myofilaments were grouped in patches reminiscent of A and
I bands of striated muscles. At the other extreme, muscular fibrils of the catenulids studied were thin and regularly spaced
along the body wall, and the branched ends of radial myofibrils in the parenchyma were connected to the epithelial layer.

When directly transmitted infectious diseases are modeled assuming an everlasting induced immunity (and constant contact rate),
there are well-established formulas to deal with, which is not true if we include the loss of induced immunity. In general,
the immunity induced by the disease is everlasting. We propose a model considering the loss of immunity and present methods
for the estimation of two epidemiological parameters: the force of infection and the basic reproduction ratio. We also analyze the effects of the loss of immunity on these parameters. Based on these results, we conclude that reinfection

Propionibacterium shermanii CDB 10014 is able to grow even at high oxygen transfer rates (24.0 mmol O2 l−1 h−1), in contrast to reports in the specialised literature, where all Propionibacteria are considered oxygen-sensitive microorganisms.
Propionic acid is the main product in anaerobiosis. The presence of oxygen in the system leads to an inhibition of propionic
acid production while acetic acid formation is enhanced. At high oxygen supply rates no propionic acid is produced and acetic
acid is the main product. Lactic acid is also produced in reasonable quantities (2.7 g l−1). The growth rate (μmax) is higher in anaerobiosis (0.19 h−1) than in aerobiosis (0.12–0.15 h−1). The cell yield is higher in aerobiosis (0.18–0.22 g g−1) than in anaerobiosis (0.14 g g−1) suggesting the oxidative metabolism of glucose by Propionibacterium shermanii CDB 10014. No corrinoid production was detected at oxygen transfer rates of more than 13.6 mmol l−1 h−1.

The Mayacaceae are a monogeneric monocot family of herbs that grow on swampy areas in the Americas and in Africa. Both the number of species constituting the family and its inter-familial relationships are unclear. By describing and comparing the floral anatomy of Mayaca fluviatilis, M. fluviatilis f. kunthii, M. longipes and M. sellowiana we have identified some features that delimit the species. These include: arrangement of flowers on the stem, shape of stamens, size of apical pores, disposition of microsporangia, number of ovules and shape of the stylar canal. We concluded that M. fluviatilis f. kunthii should be considered as a species (M. kunthii) rather than a forma. Other characters such as number of stamens and microsporangia, placentation, ovule type and cell numbers in the pollen grain support the placement of the Mayacaceae within Poales. 相似文献

The galactomannan from Mimosa scabrella Bentham was extracted on a pilot plant scale and dried either by vacuum oven (GVO) or by spray-drier (GSD) to evaluate the effect of the drying technique on the powder quality and its applicability as excipient in solid dosage forms. The analysis by high performance size exclusion chromatography (HPSEC) coupled to multiangle laser light scattering (MALLS) suggests that both products behave as semi-flexible polymers, although the GSD showed more aggregation at molecular level (~10%) and higher chain stiffness (Lp 9.1 nm). TG and DSC analysis showed weight loss event with peak at 299.7 and 311.9 °C to GVO and GSD, respectively, as well and higher ash content for GSD sample, in both inert and oxidant atmosphere. The X-ray diffraction confirmed the amorphous nature of both galactomannans although GVO showed high crystallinity. The GSD showed lower density (1.009 g/cm3), higher cohesiveness (repose angle 35.5°, compressibility 32.2% and absence of flow), smaller and more spherical particles than GVO sample, both with high polydispersion. As vacuum oven-drying resulted in a like fibrous material, spray-drying appears as an alternative method easy to extrapolate in industry, requiring a glidant incorporation to improve the powder flowability. 相似文献

During tumor invasion, benign myoepithelial cells of carcinoma ex-pleomorphic adenoma (CXPA) surround malignant epithelial cells and disappear. The mechanisms involved in the death and disappearance of these myoepithelial cells were investigated via analysis of the expression of regulatory proteins for apoptosis, autophagy and cellular senescence in an in situ in vitro model. Protein expression relating to apoptosis (Bax, Bcl-2, Survivin), autophagy (Beclin-1, LC3B) and cellular senescence (p21, p16) was evaluated using indirect immunofluorescence. β-galactosidase expression was assessed via histochemistry. Biopsies of CXPA (ex vivo) allowed immunhistochemical evaluation of p21 and p16, whilst LC3B, p21 and p16 protein expression was analyzed by western blotting. In the in vitro model, the myoepithelial cells were positive for LC3B (cytoplasm) and p21 (nucleus), whilst in vivo positivity for p21 and p16 was observed. In vitro, β-galactosidase activity increased in the myoepithelial cells over time. Western blotting analysis revealed an increased LC3B, p16 and p21 expression in the myoepithelial cells with previous contact with the malignant cells when compared with those without contact. The investigation of behavior of benign myoepithelial cells in ductal areas of CXAP revealed that the myoepithelial cells are involved in the autophagy-senescence phenotype that subsequently leads to their disappearance. 相似文献

Cashew apple is a tropical pseudofruit consumed as juice due to its excellent nutritional and sensory properties. In spite of being well known for its important antioxidant properties, the cashew apple has not been thoroughly investigated for its therapeutic potential. Thereby, this study evaluated the antioxidant capacity, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing activities of cashew apple juice. Juices from ripe and immature cashew apples were analyzed for antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing properties. Those were evaluated in murine models of xylene-induced ear edema and wound excision. Swiss mice were treated with cashew juice by gavage. Edema thickness was measured and skin lesions were analyzed by planimetry and histology. Both antioxidant content and total antioxidant activity were higher in ripe cashew apple juice (RCAJ) than in unripe cashew apple juice (UNCAJ). The UNCAJ presented the main anti-inflammatory activity by a significant inhibition of ear edema (66.5%) when compared to RCAJ (10%). Moreover, UNCAJ also showed the best result for wound contraction (86.31%) compared to RCAJ (67.54%). Despite of higher antioxidant capacity, RCAJ did not promote better anti-inflammatory, and healing responses, which may be explained by the fact that treatment increased antioxidants level leading to a redox “imbalance” turning down the inflammatory response modulation exerted by reactive oxygen species (ROS). The results suggest that UNCAJ presents a greater therapeutic activity due to a synergistic effect of its phytochemical components, which improve the immunological mechanisms as well as an optimal balance between ROS and antioxidants leading to a better wound healing process. 相似文献

Context
Resilience is a capacity to face and overcome adversities, with personal transformation and growth. In medical education, it is critical to understand the determinants of a positive, developmental reaction in the face of stressful, emotionally demanding situations. We studied the association among resilience, quality of life (QoL) and educational environment perceptions in medical students.Methods
We evaluated data from a random sample of 1,350 medical students from 22 Brazilian medical schools. Information from participants included the Wagnild and Young’s resilience scale (RS-14), the Dundee Ready Educational Environment Measure (DREEM), the World Health Organization Quality of Life questionnaire – short form (WHOQOL-BREF), the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI).Results
Full multiple linear regression models were adjusted for sex, age, year of medical course, presence of a BDI score ≥ 14 and STAI state or anxiety scores ≥ 50. Compared to those with very high resilience levels, individuals with very low resilience had worse QoL, measured by overall (β=-0.89; 95% confidence interval =-1.21 to -0.56) and medical-school related (β=-0.85; 95%CI=-1.25 to -0.45) QoL scores, environment (β=-6.48; 95%CI=-10.01 to -2.95), psychological (β=-22.89; 95%CI=-25.70 to -20.07), social relationships (β=-14.28; 95%CI=-19.07 to -9.49), and physical health (β=-10.74; 95%CI=-14.07 to -7.42) WHOQOL-BREF domain scores. They also had a worse educational environment perception, measured by global DREEM score (β=-31.42; 95%CI=-37.86 to -24.98), learning (β=-7.32; 95%CI=-9.23 to -5.41), teachers (β=-5.37; 95%CI=-7.16 to -3.58), academic self-perception (β=-7.33; 95%CI=-8.53 to -6.12), atmosphere (β=-8.29; 95%CI=-10.13 to -6.44) and social self-perception (β=-3.12; 95%CI=-4.11 to -2.12) DREEM domain scores. We also observed a dose-response pattern across resilience level groups for most measurements.Conclusions
Medical students with higher resilience levels had a better quality of life and a better perception of educational environment. Developing resilience may become an important strategy to minimize emotional distress and enhance medical training. 相似文献90.

Variants at the interleukin 6 receptor (IL6R) gene regulate inflammation and are associated with risk of coronary heart disease (CHD). The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of IL6R haplotypes on circulating levels of inflammatory biomarkers and risk of CHD. We performed a discovery analysis in SHEEP, a myocardial infarction (MI) case control study (n = 2,774) and replicated our results in two large, independent European populations, PROCARDIS, a CHD case control study (n = 7,998), and IMPROVE (n = 3,711) a prospective cardiovascular cohort study. Two major haplotype blocks (rs12083537A/G and rs4075015A/T—block 1; and rs8192282G/A, rs4553185T/C, rs8192284A/C, rs4240872T/C and rs7514452T/C—block 2) were identified in the IL6R gene. IL6R haplotype associations with C-reactive protein (CRP), fibrinogen, IL6, soluble IL6R (sIL6R), IL6, IL8 and TNF-α in SHEEP, CRP and fibrinogen in PROCARDIS and CRP in IMPROVE as well as association with risk of MI and CHD, were analyzed by THESIAS. Haplotypes in block 1 were associated neither with circulating inflammatory biomarkers nor with the MI/CHD risk. Haplotypes in block 2 were associated with circulating levels of CRP, in all three study populations, with fibrinogen in SHEEP and PROCARDIS, with IL8 and sIL6Rin SHEEP and with a modest, non significant, increase (7%) in MI/CHD risk in the three populations studied. Our results indicate that IL6R haplotypes regulate the circulating levels of inflammatory biomarkers. Lack of association with the risk of CHD may be explained by the combined effect of SNPs with opposite effect on the CHD risk, the sample size as well as by structural changes affecting sIL6R stability in the circulation. 相似文献
