The present study extends the two-dimensional analysis of peristaltic motion by Fung and Yih to include an elastic or viscoelastic wall, and a Poiseuille flow. This fluid-solid interaction problem is investigated by considering equations of motion of both the fluid and the deformable boundaries. The wall characteristics appear in their equations of motion, which are solved to represent boundary conditions of fluid motion. The influence of Poiseuille flow on pure peristalisis is also investigated.
The phenomenon of the ‘mean flow reversal’ is found to exist both at the center and at the boundaries of the channel. When the walls of the channel are elastic, pure peristalsis involves flow reversal only at the center. This position may shift drastically to the boundaries, if viscous damping forces are considered. 相似文献

Alpha-chymotrypsin was made more hydrophilic by modifying 11 (out of 16) ε-amino groups with pyromellitic dianhydride. The hydrophilic preparation was precipitated with n-propanol. This preparation gave significantly higher initial rates at the optimum aw (127.51 nmol mg?1 min?1 in n-octane and 21.30 nmol mg?1 min?1 in acetonitrile at aw=0.33) compared with the lyophilized preparation (53.50 nmol mg?1 min?1 in n-octane and 0.26 nmol mg?1 min?1 in acetonitrile at aw=0.97). Glycine (50, 100 and 300 mg/kg), administered daily for 10 days in rabbits challenged with typhoid 'H' antigen and sheep erythrocyte antigen, caused dose- dependent reduction of antibody titre. The design of linear peptoid oligomers adopting well-defined secondary structures while mimicking defined peptide primary sequences is a major challenge in the context of drug discovery. To this end, chemists have developed cis-inducing peptoid side chains to build robust polyproline type I helices. However, the number of efficient examples remains scarce and chemical diversity accessible through the use of these side chains is limited. Herein, we introduce an array of NCα-gem-dimethylated peptoid residues mimicking proteinogenic amino acids. Submonomer synthesis and block-coupling approaches were explored to access heterooligomers incorporating these novel types of side chains. NMR studies of monomer and trimer models showed that the NCα-gem-dimethylated groups exert complete cis control on the backbone amide conformation. Lastly, a preliminary molecular modeling study gave an insight into the preferred orientation of the substituents of the NCα-gem-dimethyl side chains relative to the peptoid backbone. 相似文献

A Sphingobium sp. strain isolated from radioactive solid waste management site (RSMS) completely degraded 7.98 g/L of tributyl phosphate (TBP) from TBP containing suspensions in 3 days. It also completely degraded 20 mM dibutyl phosphate (DBP) within 2 days. The strain tolerated high levels of TBP and showed excellent stability with respect to TBP degradation over several repeated subcultures. On solid minimal media or Luria Bertani media supplemented with TBP, the RSMS strain showed a clear zone of TBP degradation around the colony. Gas chromatography and spectrophotometry analyses identified DBP as the intermediate and butanol and phosphate as the products of TBP biodegradation. The RSMS strain utilized both TBP and DBP as the sole source of carbon and phosphorous for its growth. The butanol released was completely utilized by the strain as a carbon source thereby leaving no toxic residue in the medium. Degradation of TBP or DBP was found to be suppressed by high concentration of glucose which also inhibited TBP or DBP dependent growth. The results highlight the potential of Sphingobium sp. strain RSMS for bioremediation of TBP and for further molecular investigation. 相似文献

5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is the first rationally designed antimetabolite, which achieves its therapeutic efficacy through inhibition of the enzyme thymidylate synthase (TS), which is essential for the synthesis and repair of DNA. However, prolonged exposure to 5-FU induces TS overexpression, which leads to 5-FU resistance in cancer cells. Several studies have identified curcumin as a potent chemosensitizer against chemoresistance induced by various chemotherapeutic drugs. In this study, we report for the first time, with mechanism-based evidences, that curcumin can effectively chemosensitize breast cancer cells to 5-FU, thereby reducing the toxicity and drug resistance. We found that 10 μM 5-FU and 10 μM curcumin induces a synergistic cytotoxic effect in different breast cancer cells, independent of their receptor status, through the enhancement of apoptosis. Curcumin was found to sensitize the breast cancer cells to 5-FU through TS-dependent downregulation of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB), and this observation was confirmed by silencing TS and inactivating NF-κB, both of which reduced the chemosensitizing efficacy of curcumin. Silencing of TS suppressed 5-FU-induced NF-κB activation, whereas inactivation of NF-κB did not affect 5-FU-induced TS upregulation, confirming that TS is upstream of NF-κB and regulates the activation of NF-κB in 5-FU-induced signaling pathway. Although Akt/PI3kinase and mitogen-activated protein kinase pathways are activated by 5-FU and downregulated by curcumin, they do not have any role in regulating the synergism. As curcumin is a pharmacologically safe and cost-effective compound, its use in combination with 5-FU may improve the therapeutic index of 5-FU, if corroborated by in vivo studies and clinical trials. 相似文献

Western India experiences arid to dry subhumid ecoclimate. Aridity increases from east to west to the Great Indian Desert or Thar Desert. The desert economy is animal based and goats are the most common livestock; density of goats increases with increase in aridity. There are large morphological variations in goats warranting the recognition of population differences throughout the region. The present investigations were therefore undertaken to see whether there are population differences and, if so, to establish the populations on a sound ecological basis. Eleven physical measurements of the animals were made in the fields of western India in a total of 518 animals (255 adults). Five populations were initially segregated by means of a scatter diagram. Population differences were confirmed by mathematical treatments using analysis of variance (one-way and two-way) and Students-Newman-Keuls test, which yields a critical comparison among means. Discriminant analysis was used to determine whether the goat populations differed significantly between the five climo-edaphic-vegetational zones. Each population was designated according to the locality having the greatest density as: POP1Ku, POP2Sa, POP3Jh, POP4Ga, POP5Pa. The five populations occurring in distinct climo-edaphic-vegetational zones or ecological niches in western India may be referred to as ecotypes. 相似文献
