The wetting behaviour of the spray and the biological efficacy of Cu2+ active ingredients in agrochemical formulations may be enhanced by tank-mix additives. We investigated how three BREAK-THRU® additives (BT301: biodegradable, BT133 and BT420: bio-based and biodegradable) tank-mixed with commercial copper preparations influenced the spray distribution, leaf uptake and biological efficacy of copper additive mixtures against apple scab and apple powdery mildew under controlled conditions. We quantified the synergetic effects of these additives in foliar applications. In addition, we determined the phytotoxic potential and evaluated their impacts on photosynthetic activity, non-photochemical quenching and ROS activity. The additives BT301 and BT420 strongly reduced surface tension and contact angle of copper treatments. The fluorescence observations revealed that BT301 achieved better spreading of copper formulation with more complete coverage of the leaf surface than BT420 and BT133, whereas ‘coffee-ring’ spreading was observed with BT133. The additive BT301 showed an increase in relative fluorescence area, indicating higher ROS production as a signal of intra-cellular tissue activity. The photochemical efficiency of photosystem II (Fv/Fm) was not negatively influenced by copper or additive treatment. Thus, we observed no phytotoxic effects of copper-additive mixtures on apple leaves at treatment doses of 4 g Cu2+ L−1. All copper treatments reduced apple scab infections significantly, by 53%–76%. Interestingly, addition of BT301 to copper preparations showed the strongest biological efficacy (83% reduction) against Venturia inaequalis, whereas addition of BT420 showed the strongest effect against Podosphaera leucotricha (89% infection reduction). The synergetic effects of additives on the biological efficacy without phytotoxic effects on plants may have potential for reducing copper loads in horticultural production systems.  相似文献

The seeds ofMerremia aegyptia are indifferent to light conditions for germination, which becomes 100% in the first 24 hrs. On the contrary, inM. dissecta the highest percentage was found in red light within the first 24 hrs. This difference was lost later on except in far-red. The seedling growth of the two species was least in blue and red lights, respectively. However, the growth of hypocotyl in the former species was faster than the latter.  相似文献

Understanding the potential for ornamental plant species to become naturalized in a nonnative habitat requires information on seed germination in order to help predict responses of the species to the natural environmental conditions of its new habitat. Cardiocrinum giganteum var. giganteum, which is native to the Himalayas, has been introduced as an ornamental plant in temperate regions of the world, and was categorized recently as invasive in New Zealand. Seed germination requirements of the species were determined under natural conditions in Hokkaido, Japan, to assess its potential to become naturalized in this region of Japan. Mature seeds were collected from its native range in the Indian Himalayas. At maturity in autumn, seeds had underdeveloped embryos, which grew in the second autumn and winter after exposure to summer temperatures. Radicles and cotyledons emerged in late winter and spring. Thus, an 18?C19?month period was required from dispersal to seed germination. Under laboratory conditions, this period could be shortened to 10?C11?months in a 25/15?°C (120?days)????15/5?°C (90?days)????0?°C (90?days)????15/5?°C (60?days) temperature sequence. GA3 did not substitute for the above temperature requirements. These temperature requirements for seed germination of C. giganteum var. giganteum are very similar to those of its native Japanese congener C. cordatum var. glehnii. Seeds of both taxa have deep simple morphophysiological dormancy. The close similarity in the requirements for regeneration from seeds of the two taxa suggests that the seed stage of the life cycle is not an impediment to the naturalization of the giant Himalayan lily in northern Japan.  相似文献

A significantly increased O-acetylated sialic acid (O-AcSA) binding fraction was purified from serum of visceral leishmaniasis (VL) patients by affinity chromatography on immobilized bovine submaxillary mucin (BSM) and found to be immunoglobulin in origin. The serodiagnostic and prognostic potential of BSM as a capture antigen was established by ELISA with no cross reactivity with coendemic diseases like malaria, tuberculosis, leprosy, chagas disease and cutaneous leishmaniasis; however, a strong cross reactivity was present with trypanosomiasis patients. In 56 clinically diagnosed VL patients, the BSM-ELISA was compared with diagnosis by microscopy using Giemsa stained tissue smears and direct ELISA using crude parasite antigen (parasite-ELISA); 49/56(87.5%) and 5/56(9.0%) were positive and negative respectively by all 3 methods. The BSM-ELISA failed to diagnose 2/56(3.5%) patients which were biopsy and parasite-ELISA positive. The prognostic potential of the BSM-ELISA in 18 longitudinally monitored VL patients before and after conventional antimonial treatment showed a significant decrease in anti O-AcSA titres in drug responsive patients whereas anti O-AcSA levels persisted in drug unresponsive patients. The IgG subclass distribution of antibodies directed against O-AcSA showed increased IgG2 levels in VL patients as compared to healthy controls. The BSM-based ELISA holds great promise as a serodiagnostic and prognostic assay for VL.  相似文献

Nitric oxide (NO) is a regulating factor in respiration. The question was whether NO synthase (NOS) blockade would affect posthypoxic ventilatory behavior similarly in two rat strains with known differences in steady-state hypoxic and hypercapnic responses and in posthypoxic ventilatory behavior. Ventilatory behavior [respiratory frequency (f) and minute ventilation (VE)] was measured by body plethysmography on unanesthetized, unrestrained adult male Sprague-Dawley (SD; n = 8) and Brown Norway rats (BN; n = 8) at baseline and 1 min after rapid transition to 100% O(2) after 5 min of isocapnic hypoxia (10% O(2)-3% CO(2)-balance N(2)). Testing was performed 30 min after intraperitoneal injection of either saline (vehicle) or 100 mg/kg of N(G)-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME). Resting f and VE increased after L-NAME in both strains, more markedly in SD compared with BN (77 vs. 47% for f, and 42 vs. 16% for VE, respectively; P < 0.05). With vehicle, posthypoxic f and VE decline (Dejours phenomenon) was present only in BN and was absent in SD. With L-NAME, the Dejours phenomena were still present in BN but also were apparent in SD (f: 95.3 vs. 134.4 beats/min at baseline; VE: 66.3 vs. 88.8 ml/min at baseline; P < 0.05). Thus NOS blockade results in a strain-specific alteration in resting ventilation and uncovers the Dejours phenomenon in the SD strain.  相似文献

Repeated exposure of trypanosomes in vitro or in vivo to low concentrations of the methylating agent 1,2-bis(methylsulfonyl)-1-methylhydrazine induces a series of moderately synchronous morphological and biochemical changes. Cell division halts and the long-slender bloodstream forms transform to short-stumpy forms via larger intermediate-stage cells which contain approximately double the normal G2 content of DNA. In common with naturally occurring short-stumpy trypanosomes, drug-induced short-stumpy forms do not infect rodents and when transferred to Cunningham's medium, transform to and replicate as procyclics. Furthermore, these short-stumpy forms exhibit alpha-ketoglutarate supported motility and oxygen consumption, acquire the ability to reduce nitroblue tetrazolium (NADH diaphorase positivity) and appear to be in the G1 or G0 stage of the cell cycle based upon DNA content.  相似文献

Xylanase and xylooligosaccharides (XOS) are employed in food and feed industries. Though xylanase production from lignocellulosic materials (LCMs) by solid-state fermentation (SSF) is well known, the XOS formed during growth is not recovered due to its conversion to xylose by β-xylosidase and subsequent bacterial metabolism. A new strain, Bacillus subtilis KCX006, was exceptionally found to synthesize β-xylosidase-free endo-xylanase and multiple xylan debranching enzymes constitutively in the presence of LCMs. Absence of β-xylosidase resulted in accumulation of XOS during growth of KCX006 on LCMs. Therefore, this strain was used for simultaneous production of xylanase and XOS from agro-residues in solid-state fermentation (SSF). Partial purification of XOS from culture supernatant using activated charcoal followed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis showed xylobiose to xylotetraose formed as the major products. Among various LCM substrates, wheat bran and groundnut oil-cake supported highest xylanase and XOS production at 2158 IU/gdw and 24.92 mg/gdw, respectively. The levels of xylanase and XOS were improved by 1.5-fold (3102 IU/gdw) and 1.9-fold (48 mg/gdw), respectively, by optimization of culture conditions.  相似文献
