In our previous studies, we observed the biological control effect of lactic acid bacteria strains (LABs) KLF01, KLC02 and KPD03 against different plant pathogenic bacteria in vitro against Ralstonia solanacearum, and strains KLF01 and KLC02 against Pectobacterium carotovorum under greenhouse and field experiments, respectively. In this study, we observed the efficacy of these bacteria against bacterial spot pathogen (Xanthomonas campestris pv. vesicatoria) and their plant growth-promoting activities in pepper (Capsicum annuum L. var. annuum), under greenhouse and field conditions. LABs significantly (P < 0.05) reduced bacterial spot on pepper plants in comparison to untreated plants in both the greenhouse and the field experiments. The plant growth-promoting effect of LABs on pepper varied; some strains had a significant effect on growth promotion (P < 0.05) compared with untreated plants, while some showed no significant effect in the greenhouse and field experiments. Additionally, LABs were able to colonise roots, produce indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), siderophores and solubilise phosphate. These findings indicate that application of LABs could provide a promising alternative for the management of bacterial spot disease in pepper plants and could therefore be used as a healthy plant growth-promoting agent. 相似文献

Neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) due to in‐utero opioid exposure has significant variability of severity. Preliminary studies have suggested that epigenetic variation within the μ‐opioid receptor (OPRM1) gene impacts NAS. We aimed to determine if DNA methylation in OPRM1 within opioid‐exposed mother‐infant dyads is associated with differences in NAS severity in an independent cohort. Full‐term opioid‐exposed newborns and their mothers (N = 68 pairs) were studied. A DNA sample was obtained and then assessed for level of DNA methylation at 20 CpG sites within the OPRM1 promoter region by next‐generation sequencing. Infants were monitored for NAS and treated with replacement opioids according to institutional protocol. The association between DNA methylation level at each CpG site with NAS outcome measures was evaluated using linear and logistic regression models. Higher methylation levels within the infants at the ?18 (11.4% vs 4.4%, P = .0001), ?14 (46.1% vs 24.0%, P = .002) and +23 (26.3% vs 12.9%, P = .008) CpG sites were associated with higher rates of infant pharmacologic treatment. Higher levels of methylation within the mothers at the ?169 (R = 0.43, P = .008), ?152 (R = 0.40, P = .002) and +84 (R = 0.44, P = .006) sites were associated point‐wise with longer infant length of stay. Maternal associations remained significant point‐wise for ?169 (β = 0.07, P = .007) and on an experiment‐wise level for +84 (β = ?0.10, P = .003) using regression models. These results suggest an association of higher levels of OPRM1 methylation at specific CpG sites and increased NAS severity, replicating prior findings. Compounds based on the 2,3-distyrylindole scaffold were found to exhibit bactericidal properties upon irradiation with white light. At the concentration of 1?μM, the lead compound 1 completely (ca. 109?CFU/mL) eradicated such Gram-positive organisms as S. aureus (MRSA, MSSA), E. faecalis (VRE), S. pyogenes and S. mutans when irradiated with white light for 2?min. At the concentration of 5?μM and in the presence of polymyxin E at non-bactericidal 1.25?μg/mL concentration, 1 also showed a 7-log to 9-log reductions in bacterial counts of such Gram-negative organisms as multi-drug resistant (MDR) A. baumannii, MDR P. aeruginosa, E. coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRE: KPC and NDM-1), also when irradiated with white light for 2?min. The structure-activity relationship studies revealed that unsubstituted at benzene rings 2,3-distyrylindole 2 was most potent and gave a 5-order of magnitude eradication of a MRSA strain at the concentration of 30?nM upon irradiation with white light. Initial mechanistic experiments revealed the disruption of bacterial cell membrane, but indicated that singlet oxygen production, which is commonly associated with photodynamic therapy, may not play a role in the bactericidal effects of the 2,3-distyrylindoles. 相似文献

Aim
Understanding the evolution of the latitudinal diversity gradient (i.e. increase in species diversity towards the tropics) is a prominent issue in ecology and biogeography. Disentangling the relative contributions of environment and evolutionary history in shaping this gradient remains a major challenge because their relative importance has been found to vary across regions and taxa. Here, using the global distributions and a molecular phylogeny of Rhododendron, one of the largest genera of flowering plants, we aim to compare the relative contributions of contemporary environment, evolutionary time and diversification rates in generating extant species diversity patterns.Location

We compiled the global distributions of all Rhododendron species, and constructed a dated molecular phylogeny using nine chloroplast genes and seven nuclear regions. By integrating these two datasets, we estimated the temporal trends of Rhododendron diversification, and explored the global patterns of its species diversity, net diversification rates, and species ages. Next, we reconstructed the geographical ancestral area of the clade. Finally, we compared the relative contribution of contemporary environment, time‐for‐speciation, and diversification rates on the species diversity pattern of Rhododendron.Results
In contrast to the predictions of the time‐for‐speciation hypothesis, we found that although Rhododendron originated at a temperate latitude, its contemporary species diversity is highest in the tropics/subtropics, suggesting an into‐the‐tropics colonization for this genus. We found that the elevated diversification induced by heterogeneous environmental conditions in the tropics/subtropics shapes the global pattern of Rhododendron diversity.Main conclusions
Our findings support tropical and subtropical mountains as not only biodiversity and endemism hotspots, but also as cradles for the diversification of Rhododendron. Convergent atrial fibrillation ablation involves extensive epicardial as well as endocardial ablation of the left atrium. We examined whether it changes the morphology of the surface P wave. We reviewed electrocardiograms of 29 patients who underwent convergent ablation for atrial fibrillation. In leads V1, II and III, we measured P wave duration, area and amplitude before ablation, and at 1, 3 and 6 months from ablation.After ablation, there were no significant changes in P wave amplitude, area, or duration in leads II and III. There was a significant reduction in the area of the terminal negative deflection of the P wave in V1 from 0.38 mm2 to 0.13 mm2 (p = 0.03). There is also an acute increase in the amplitude and duration of the positive component of the P wave in V1 followed by a reduction in both by 6 months. Before ablation, 62.5% of the patients had biphasic P waves in V1. In 6 months, only 39.2% of them had biphasic P waves.Hybrid ablation causes a reduction of the terminal negative deflection of the P wave in V1 as well as temporal changes in the duration and amplitude of the positive component of the P wave in V1. This likely reflects the reduced electrical contribution of the posterior left atrium after ablation as well as anatomical and autonomic remodeling. Recognition of this altered sinus P wave morphology is useful in the diagnosis of atrial arrhythmias in this patient population. 相似文献
