A hybrid mass spectrometer operated in low-resolution selected decomposition monitoring (SDM) mode was used for the analysis of whole fish samples for the 2,3,7,8-substituted polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and poly-chlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs). These fish samples were previously analyzed for PCDD/Fs using a high-resolution mass spectrometer following EPA protocols. The hybrid tandem mass spectrometric method using loss of COCl gave similar quantification results to those obtained by high-resolution mass spectrometry and eliminated the interferences attributed to polychlorinated biphenyls that were encountered in the high-resolution mass spectrometric analysis. Comparison of the two methods shows that the high-resolution mass spectrometric method surpasses the tandem mass spectrometric method in other analytical figures of merit, such as detection limit, linearity and reproducibility. 相似文献

Recent research suggests that over 75% of resources extracted globally now go toward creating, maintaining, or operating material stocks (MS) to provide societal services like housing, transport, education, and health. However, the integrity of current and future built environments, and the capacity of the system to continue providing services, are threatened by extreme events and sea-level rise (SLR). This is especially significant for the most disaster-prone countries in the world: Small Island Developing States. In the aftermath of disasters, complex rebuilding efforts require substantial material and economic resources, oftentimes incurring massive debt. Understanding the composition and dynamics of MS and environmental threats is essential for current and future sustainable development. Drawing on open-source OpenStreetMap (OSM) data, we conducted a spatially explicit material stock analysis (MSA) for The Bahamas for 2021, where we included buildings and transport MS, and SLR exposure scenarios. Total MS was estimated at 76 million tonnes (Mt) or 191 tonnes per capita (t/cap) of which transport comprises 43%. These MS are likely to increase by 36 Mt in the future. Simulations show that under 1-, 2-, or 3-m SLR scenarios, around 4, 6, and 9 Mt of current MS will be exposed, with transport MS at greatest risk, with over 80% of total exposure in each scenario. Our findings highlight the critical role that key MS play in sustainability and resilience, contributing to the emphasis on effective development planning and climate change adaptation strategies, and to the exploration of the use of OSM data for studying these objectives. 相似文献

Summary We analysed the data of H.C. Bumpus on the survival of house sparrows (Passer domesticus) using structural equation modelling techniques. Using data on seven morphological variables measured by Bumpus, we tested and confirmed a three-factor model that characterized physical attributes for general size, leg size and head size. Although males were physically larger than females, we found no difference between males and females in the physical attributes as measured by the three factors. Survival increased significantly with increasing general size and was unrelated to leg size and head size. Wing length, independent of its relationship to the general size factor, was also significantly related to survival. Higher survival was found among birds with short wings. Males had a higher survival compared to females. Their higher survival was mediated, to a lesser extent indirectly, through greater size and, to a greater extent directly, through effects of unknown origin. We favour the use of structural equation modelling methods in studies of selection because of their ability to test and confirm or disconfirm hypotheses related to selection events. 相似文献

A comparison of coaxial continuous flow fast atom bombardment (FAB) with static FAB and with electrospray ionization (ESI) for the analysis of 'high'-mass peptides (Mr = 3000-4000) is presented. Sensitivities of the peptides by coaxial continuous flow FAB is nearly an order of magnitude better than by static FAB. Single-scan spectra with good signal-to-noise can be obtained from as little as 200 fmol (by flow injection analysis). Detection limits by ESI mass spectrometry were found to be equivalent to 20 times higher than by coaxial continuous flow FAB on a per mole basis, but 4-20 times lower on a concentration basis, owing to the greater flow per unit time employed in the ESI mass spectrometric experiments. 相似文献
