In a survey of the Myeik Archipelago, we documented seven seagrass species in the southern region. Three seagrass species (Cymodocea rotundata, Enhalus acoroides, and Halophila ovalis) have previously been reported in the Myeik Archipelago; three species (Halodule pinifolia, Halodule uninervis, Syringodium isoetifolium) are new reports for the archipelago; and one species (Thalassia hemprichii) is a new report for Myanmar. 相似文献

We investigated the light microscopic subcellular localization and quantitation of alpha 2u-globulin (alpha 2uG) in male rat kidney after 2,2,4-trimethylpentane exposure using a monoclonal antibody to alpha 2uG. Slices of perfusion-fixed kidney were cold-processed in glycolmethacrylate and the antigen localized after an avidin-biotin-horseradish peroxidase procedure with Hanker-Yates reagent as the chromagen. Light microscopic examination revealed resolution comparable to low-magnification electron microscopy, with excellent morphological detail of tissue architecture, including subcellular localization of alpha 2uG within lysosomes of P2 segment cells of the proximal tubule epithelium. The anatomical relationship between alpha 2uG and TMP-induced protein droplets observed after staining with Lee's methylene blue-basic fuchsin was studied using serial sections. Image analysis of selected P2 segments in treated and control rats revealed a high correlation between subcellular localization of alpha 2uG and protein droplet deposition in the cytoplasm of P2 segment cells of the proximal tubule epithelium. Quantitative morphometry of alpha 2uG-stained proximal tubule epithelium 72 hr after treatment with 50 mg/kg 2,2,4-trimethylpentane p.o. demonstrated a 1.5- to 2-fold increase in staining area of tubules from treated rats compared with controls. Similar increases of Lee's methylene blue-basic fuchsin-stained protein droplets were also observed, but quantitative morphometry of the protein droplets was technically more difficult owing to a lower staining contrast between droplets and the surrounding cytoplasm. This immunohistochemical procedure provides a valuable technique for further studies on the pathological role of alpha 2uG in protein droplet nephropathy of male rats induced by many environmental chemicals, and demonstrates the value of cold glycolmethacrylate processing to improve morphological detail. 相似文献

- Ecometrics is the study of community‐level functional trait–environment relationships. We use ecometric analyses to estimate paleoenvironment and to investigate community‐level functional changes through time.
- We evaluate four methods that have been used or have the potential to be used in ecometric analyses for estimating paleoenvironment to determine whether there have been systematic differences in paleoenvironmental estimation due to choice of the estimation method. Specifically, we evaluated linear regression, polynomial regression, nearest neighbor, and maximum‐likelihood methods to explore the predictive ability of the relationship for a well‐known ecometric dataset of mammalian herbivore hypsodonty metrics (molar tooth crown to root height ratio) and annual precipitation. Each method was applied to 43 Pleistocene fossil sites and compared to annual precipitation from global climate models. Sites were categorized as glacial or interglacial, and paleoprecipitation estimates were compared to the appropriate model.
- Estimation methods produce results that are highly correlated with log precipitation and estimates from the other methods (p < 0.001). Differences between estimated precipitation and observed precipitation are not significantly different across the four methods, but maximum likelihood produces the most accurate estimates of precipitation. When applied to paleontological sites, paleoprecipitation estimates align more closely with glacial global climate models than with interglacial models regardless of the age of the site.
- Each method has constraints that are important to consider when designing ecometric analyses to avoid misinterpretations when ecometric relationships are applied to the paleontological record. We show interglacial fauna estimates of paleoprecipitation more closely match glacial global climate models. This is likely because of the anthropogenic effects on community reassembly in the Holocene.

Staphylococcus aureus accumulated cardiolipin (CL) and lost phosphatidylglycerol (PG) during the stationary phase of growth. The minor lipids, phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylglucose, also accumulated, whereas the lysylphosphatidylglycerol (LPG) content of the membrane remained constant as stationary phase continued. During exponential growth, the proportions and total content of phospholipids per cell remained constant. The metabolism of the phospholipids was examined under these conditions. In pulse-chase experiments, the phospholipids lost (14)C from the glycerols slower than (32)P. When the phospholipids were labeled with (14)C glycerol, the unacylated glycerols of PG and LPG lost (14)C, whereas the diacylated glycerols either accumulated or did not lose (14)C. In all experiments, the PG showed a more rapid metabolism than the LPG. When staphylococcal CL was hydrolyzed by Haemophilus parainfluenzae CL-specific phospholipase D into phosphatidic acid (PA) and PG, the incorporation of (32)P into both of the phosphates of CL was found to be parallel at both the PG and PA ends of the molecule. However, the specific activity of the (32)P at the PA end was twice that at the PG end of the molecule. The PG end of the CL apparently came from a portion of the cellular PG pool with about 20% the specific activity of the total cellular PG. The turnover of two of the glycerols of the PG portion of CL was like that of the cellular PG. The diacylated glycerol of the PG and of CL and of the membrane PG showed neither turnover nor incorporation of (14)C. Half of the radioactivity was lost from the middle glycerol of CL and the free glycerol of the cellular PG in one bacterial doubling. The diacylated glycerol from the other end of the CL molecule (the PA end) lost radioactivity almost as rapidly as the middle glycerol for 10 min. After the initial rapid loss, the turnover slowed to a rate 10 times slower than the middle glycerol, indicating that the (14)C was actually accumulating at this end of the molecule. The phosphates and glycerols involved in the hydrolysis and resynthesis of the CL molecule during exponential growth in S. aureus apparently come from different pools of PG. 相似文献

The life cycle and production of Skwala parallela, a perlodid stonefly, was investigated in a third-order Colorado montane stream. The species exhibited a univoltine life cycle with a distinct cohort. Small nymphs appeared in May. Rapid growth was exhibited throughout summer and autumn. During winter, growth slowed somewhat but was continuous until April. Maximum density of 34 nymphs/m2 occurred in July. Based upon the instantaneous growth method, annual production was 395.3 mg/m2 or 3.95 kg/ha dry weight with a P/B ratio of 4.4 相似文献
