The oriental species previously included in the rarely collected genus Nemotha Wood-Mason, 1884 (Mantodea: Iridopterygidae) are revised. N. coomani (Chopard, 1930) and N. mirabilis Beier, 1933 strongly differ from the type species N. metallica (Westwood, 1845) by family-level morphological features, but share a unique type of forefemoral armament with the genera Hapalopeza Stål, 1877 and Amantis Giglio-Tos, 1915, suggesting Nemotha is of a polyphyletic nature. The genus Tricondylomimus Chopard, 1930 is resurrected from synonymy to accommodate T. coomani, T. mirabilis n. comb. and the species which is newly described in this article, T. intermedius n. sp. The monotypic genus Pseudogousa Tinkham, 1937 and its species P. sinensis Tinkham, 1937 are synonymized with Tricondylomimus and T. mirabilis, respectively. The genus Tricondylomimus is placed in Iridopterygidae, while Nemotha is transferred to Hymenopodidae: Anaxarchini.  相似文献

There is strong evidence that vasodilatory nitric oxide (NO) donors have anabolic effects on bone in humans. Parathyroid hormone (PTH), the only osteoanabolic drug currently approved, is also a vasodilator. We investigated whether the NO synthase inhibitor L‐NAME might alter the effect of PTH on bone by blocking its vasodilatory effect. BALB/c mice received 28 daily injections of PTH[1–34] (80 µg/kg/day) or L‐NAME (30 mg/kg/day), alone or in combination. Hindlimb blood perfusion was measured by laser Doppler imaging. Bone architecture, turnover and mechanical properties in the femur were analysed respectively by micro‐CT, histomorphometry and three‐point bending. PTH increased hindlimb blood flow by >30% within 10 min of injection (P < 0.001). Co‐treatment with L‐NAME blocked the action of PTH on blood flow, whereas L‐NAME alone had no effect. PTH treatment increased femoral cortical bone volume and formation rate by 20% and 110%, respectively (P < 0.001). PTH had no effect on trabecular bone volume in the femoral metaphysis although trabecular thickness and number were increased and decreased by 25%, respectively. Co‐treatment with L‐NAME restricted the PTH‐stimulated increase in cortical bone formation but had no clear‐cut effects in trabecular bone. Co‐treatment with L‐NAME did not affect the mechanical strength in femurs induced by iPTH. These results suggest that NO‐mediated vasorelaxation plays partly a role in the anabolic action of PTH on cortical bone. © 2016 The Authors. One can determine the best dilution of a primary antibody for immunohistochemistry that uses horseradish peroxidase conjugated to a secondary antibody by testing increasing concentrations sequentially on the same tissue section. When the same tissue section is incubated repeatedly with increasing concentrations of primary antibodies to epithelial membrane antigen, smooth muscle α-actin, or vimentin using alkaline phosphatase conjugated to a secondary antibody as the reporter, the best staining was obtained with a less concentrated primary antibody than was optimal for a single staining test. The best concentration of primary antibody for single run staining using an alkaline phosphatase reporting system is usually four times the best concentration for staining with multiple runs. The optimal concentration can be determined by denaturing the residual alkaline phosphatase and extracting residual stain by incubating the section in 4:1 diglyme:phosphate buffered saline for 20 min at 80o C between tests of primary antibody concentrations. A new genus of praying mantis is described, Chlorocalis n. gen., with two species, C. maternaschulzei n. sp. and C. prasina n. sp. from the Greater Mekong Region. Chlorocalis is placed in Mantidae and can be immediately recognized by the presence of dark brown (male) or yellow-whitish (female) oblique stripes on the forewings, a large conical bulge on the clypeus, two large conical bulges on either side of the inferior margin of the lower frons, and the male genitalia with two distal processes on the ventral phallomere. Chlorocalis maternaschulzei is a widespread lowland species with records as west as Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Thailand, and as east as mount Núi Chúa in southern Central Vietnam. We consider this species to be of Least Concern. In contrast, C. prasina is a narrow-range mountain endemic of the Vietnamese Central Highlands in the Annamite range and is assessed by us to be Vulnerable. The new findings demonstrate the still very poor knowledge on praying mantis species diversity in South-East Asia and the urgency to resolve this taxonomic deficiency in the face of biodiversity loss.  相似文献

As the result of the chromatographic separation of Y. pestis EV membrane proteins, a protein fraction with hemagglutinating activity was obtained. The isolated preparation was glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 22 kD, contained 16% of carbohydrates and exhibited thermolabile properties. The determination of the carbohydrate specificity of this glycoprotein revealed that it belonged to the class of lectins. Changes in the content of 11 corticosteroids and the population composition of lymphocytes, as well as the detection of specific antibodies in the blood serum of guinea pigs immunized with lectin, were indicative of the fact that the preparation was sufficiently immunogenic and induced the activation of the processes of proliferation and activation of lymphocytes during immunogenesis. The lectin isolated from Y. pestis EV outer membrane may be regarded as an additional factor ensuring the contact of the pathogen with the cells of the body and as a promising component of combined plague vaccine.  相似文献

Consistent holistic view of sexual species as the highest form of biological existence is presented. The Weismann's idea that sex and recombination provide the variation for the natural selection to act upon is dominated in most discussions of the biological meaning of the sexual reproduction. Here, the idea is substantiated that the main advantage of sex is the opposite: the ability to counteract not only extinction but further evolution as well. Living systems live long owing to their ability to reproduce themselves with a high fidelity. Simple organisms (like bacteria) reach the continued existence due to the high fidelity of individual genome replication. In organisms with a large genome and complex development, the achievable fidelity of DNA replication is not enough for the precise reproduction of the genome. Such species must be capable of surviving and must remain unchanged in spite of the continuous changes of their genes. This problem has no solution in the frame of asexual ("homeogenomic") lineages. They would rapidly degrade and become extinct or blurred out in the course of the reckless evolution. The core outcome of the transition to sexual reproduction was the creation of multiorganismic entity - biological species. Individual organisms forfeited their ability to reproduce autonomously. It implies that individual organisms forfeited their ability to substantive evolution. They evolve as a part of the biological species. In case of obligatory sexuality, there is no such a thing as synchronic multi-level selection. Natural selection cannot select anything that is not a unit of reproduction. Hierarchy in biology implies the functional predestination of the parts for the sake of the whole. A crucial feature of the sexual reproduction is the formation of genomes of individual organisms by random picking them over from the continuously shuffled gene pool instead of the direct replication of the ancestor's genome. A clear anti-evolutionary consequence of the sexuality is evident from the fact that the genotypes of the individuals with an enhanced competitiveness are not transmitted to the next generation. Instead, after mating with "ordinary" individuals, these genotypes scatter and rearrange in new gene combinations, thus preventing the winner from exploiting the success.  相似文献

The dependence of the rate of neutral molecular evolution on biological parameters and demographic population factors was studied based on actual genetic information as an example and using the individual-oriented model of population dynamics. The first part of the study deals with tracing the neutral evolution occurring in the model concurrently with adaptive speciation. The second part concerns the effect of individual biological parameters and demographic population factors of members of the order Testudines (turtles) on the relative evolution rate of the mitochondrial CytB gene. Demographic population factors and individual biological parameters are shown to affect the rate of molecular evolution.  相似文献

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Data on the eradication treatment for childhood Helicobacter pylori are scanty. A register was established on the European Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) website to collect data on treatment performed by European pediatricians to ascertain what is practiced in the field. SUBJECTS: From January 2001 to December 2002, information on 597 children were entered by 23 European Centers, but only data of 518 treated children were completed and analyzed (86.7%, 262 male subjects, median age 9 years, range 1-14). According to their nationality, 226 children were from Southern Europe, 132 from Eastern Europe, 68 from Western Europe, and 4 from northern Europe, 68 from North Africa, and 20 from Asia. At endoscopy, 454 children had gastritis and 64 had ulcer (12.3%). Antibiotic sensitivity, tested in 361 cases, revealed 18% clarithromycin-resistant and 19% metronidazole-resistant H. pylori strains. RESULTS: Treatment was performed for 1 week in 388 and for 2 weeks in 130 children. Antibiotics were associated with proton pump inhibitors (PPI) in 345 and with bismuth in 121 children. Triple therapy was given to 485 children, dual therapy to 26, quadruple to 7. Follow-up data, by (13)C-Urea-Breath Test or histology or both, were available for 480 children. Overall eradication rate was 65.6%, significantly higher in children with ulcer (79.7%) than without (63.9%, p = .001). When given as first treatment, bismuth-containing triple therapies were more efficacious than PPI-containing ones (77% versus 64%, p = .02, OR 1.88, 95% CI 1.1-3.3). Twenty-seven different treatment regimens were used, but only six were administered to at least 18 children (range 18-157). There was no difference between treatments given for 1 or 2 weeks, or given as first or second therapies. CONCLUSION: European pediatricians entering data in the register used 27 different regimens. Bismuth-containing therapies resulted in higher eradication rate. Omeprazole-containing triple therapies were the most used although their efficacy was low. Therapies recommended for adults do not appear to be suitable for children.  相似文献
