Community structure of benthic diatoms in two sandy streams was studied for two summers to assess differences in abundances and species composition among habitats and between years and streams. The greatest differences in abundances (cells·cm?2) were lower abundances on rocks than on sand, whether the sand was clean or covered with flocculent organic material. Relatively little variation in abundances occurred between years and streams. Species composition of diatom communities varied more among habitats and between streams than from year to year. Species composition was most unique in floc-covered sand when communities in clean and floc-covered sand, rock, plant, and plankton were compared. Diatom species composition in these sandy streams was most similar on sand and rocks.  相似文献

A novel method of manufacturing rigid and robust natural fiber preforms is presented here. This method is based on a papermaking process, whereby loose and short sisal fibers are dispersed into a water suspension containing bacterial cellulose. The fiber and nanocellulose suspension is then filtered (using vacuum or gravity) and the wet filter cake pressed to squeeze out any excess water, followed by a drying step. This will result in the hornification of the bacterial cellulose network, holding the loose natural fibers together.Our method is specially suited for the manufacturing of rigid and robust preforms of hydrophilic fibers. The porous and hydrophilic nature of such fibers results in significant water uptake, drawing in the bacterial cellulose dispersed in the suspension. The bacterial cellulose will then be filtered against the surface of these fibers, forming a bacterial cellulose coating. When the loose fiber-bacterial cellulose suspension is filtered and dried, the adjacent bacterial cellulose forms a network and hornified to hold the otherwise loose fibers together.The introduction of bacterial cellulose into the preform resulted in a significant increase of the mechanical properties of the fiber preforms. This can be attributed to the high stiffness and strength of the bacterial cellulose network. With this preform, renewable high performance hierarchical composites can also be manufactured by using conventional composite production methods, such as resin film infusion (RFI) or resin transfer molding (RTM). Here, we also describe the manufacturing of renewable hierarchical composites using double bag vacuum assisted resin infusion.  相似文献

成功建立了人增生性瘢痕细胞和正常皮肤成纤维细胞的原代培养, 并利用热休克蛋白(HSP47)和成纤维细胞特异蛋白(FSP)标记物进行了鉴定。研究发现, 经过壳聚糖衍生物处理, 人增生性瘢痕成纤维细胞和正常皮肤成纤维细胞在培养中均出现了不同类型的蛋白表达。多功能转录因子蛋白(CTCF)在壳聚糖衍生物处理的增生性瘢痕成纤维细胞中出现表达上调; 在聚糖衍生物处理的正常皮肤成纤维细胞中数量无变化。YB-1结合蛋白在经壳聚糖处理的正常皮肤成纤维细胞与人增生性瘢痕细胞中的表达几乎无异, 但在未经壳聚糖处理的细胞中表达不同。C-MYC和P53蛋白在壳聚糖衍生物处理的增生性瘢痕纤维细胞中表达上调, 但在正常皮肤成纤维细胞中, 无论是否经过壳聚糖衍生物处理, 这两种蛋白都没有表达。上述4种蛋白在人增生性瘢痕细胞和正常皮肤成纤维细胞中表现出不同的表达方式, 这种新型壳聚糖衍生物可能在控制人增生性瘢痕细胞和正常皮肤成纤维细胞生长和增殖过程中起着重要作用。这些蛋白因子的表达机制目前还不是完全清楚, 有待于进一步研究。  相似文献

Spirulina (Spirulina platensis), has numerous health benefits including antioxidant, immunomodulatory, and anti-inflammatory activities, works against heavy metal toxicity, and is often used as a food supplement in human, animals, birds and fishes. This study aimed to evaluate the protective ability of the dietary spirulina against the toxic effects of inorganic arsenic (iAs) on male reproductive parameters in rats. Seventy-two mature Long-Evans male rats, dividing into six groups (T0, T1, T2, T3, T4 and T5) (12 rats/group) were included in this study. The T3, T4 and T5 group rats were treated with three consecutive doses (1.0 g, 1.5 g and 2.0 g/kg feed) of spirulina in feed along with 3.0 mg NaAsO2/kg body weight (BW) in drinking water (DW) daily for 90 days. Each rat of group T1 received NaAsO2 (3.0 mg/kg BW) in DW, and those of T2 group were fed with spirulina (2.0 g/kg feed) daily for 90 days. The rats of group T0 served as the control with normal feed and water. Total arsenic (tAs) contents, reproductive parameters (testicular weight, sperm motility and morphology), and histological changes in the testicles were evaluated in these rats. Arsenic dosing significantly (p=0.003, Kruskal-Wallis test) increased the tAs contents in the testicles, decreased testes weight, sperm morphology and motility compared to the controls. The effect of arsenic dosing was also evidenced by the histological changes like decreased germinal layers in the seminiferous tubules of the treated rats. Moreover, dietary spirulina (2.0 g/kg feed) supplementation significantly (p=0.011, Kruskal-Wallis test) lowered tAs contents in testicles and increases testes weights, sperm motility and morphology. Therefore, spirulina can be used as an effective dietary supplement to ameliorate the adverse effects of arsenic induced reproductive toxicities. However, further study is required to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms of reduction of arsenic induced reproductive toxicity by spirulina.  相似文献

Sulfated derivatives of a glycosaminoglycan containing l-glutamic acid produced by a marine Pseudomonas species, No. 42 strain, were prepared by the method of dicyclohexyl-carbodiimide-mediated reaction. Both low and high degrees of sulfation of the polysaccharides (products A1 and A2, respectively) were investigated for their antiviral activities against influenza virus type A (FluV-A) and B (FluV-B) in MDCK cells. Both preparations showed antiviral activity against FluV-A at the 50% antiviral effective concentration of 17.3 and 5.2 μg/ml, respectively, whereas they had no antiviral activity against FluV-B. No cytotoxicity of either product was noted against MDCK cells at the 50% cytotoxic concentration of 100 μg/ml. Received April 4, 1998; accepted July 24, 1998.  相似文献

P-glycoprotein (P-gp) expression determines the absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of many drugs in the body. Also, up-regulation of P-gp acts as a defense mechanism against acute inflammation. This study examined expression levels of abcb1 mRNA and localization of P-gp protein in the liver, kidney, duodenum, jejunum and ileum in healthy and E. coli infected broilers by real time RT-PCR and immunohistochemistry. Meanwhile, pharmacokinetics of orally administered enrofloxacin was also investigated in healthy and infected broilers by HPLC. The results indicated that E. coli infection up-regulated expression of abcb1 mRNA levels significantly in the kidney, jejunum and ileum (P<0.05), but not significantly in the liver and duodenum (P>0.05). However, the expression level of CYP 3A37 mRNA were observed significantly decreased only in liver and kidney of E. coli infected broilers (P<0.05) compared with healthy birds. Furthermore, the infection reduced absorption of orally administered enrofloxacin, significantly decreased Cmax (0.34 vs 0.98 µg mL−1, P = 0.000) and AUC0-12h (4.37 vs 8.88 µg mL−1 h, P = 0.042) of enrofloxacin, but increased Tmax (8.32 vs 3.28 h, P = 0.040), T1/2a(2.66 vs 1.64 h−1, P = 0.050) and V/F (26.7 vs 5.2 L, P = 0.040). Treatment with verapamil, an inhibitor of P-gp, significantly improved the absorption of enrofloxacin in both healthy and infected broilers. The results suggest that the E. coli infection induces intestine P-gp expression, altering the absorption of orally administered enrofloxacin in broilers.  相似文献
