Primary amyloid tumor of the breast. Case report and literature review   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
An example of localized amyloid deposition in the breast of an elderly woman is reported. Fine needle aspiration biopsy yielded clumps of amorphous material, which stained violet with the May-Grünwald-Giemsa technique. The amyloid appeared to be of the AA type on histochemical analysis. The lesion was clinically associated, probably coincidentally, with a stage II carcinoma of the cervix. The nature and classification of amyloid is briefly reviewed, and the role of fine needle aspiration cytology in its diagnosis is discussed.  相似文献

To determine the hemodynamic effects of a hypotensive dose of atrial natriuretic factor (ANF), a synthetic peptide containing 26 amino acids of endogenous rat ANF (Arg-Arg-Ser-Ser-Cys-Phe-Gly-Gly-Arg-Ile-Asp-Arg-Ile-Gly-Ala-Gln-Ser-Gly -Leu-Gly-Cys-Asn-Ser-Phe-Arg-Tyr-COOH) was studied in two groups of barbiturate anesthetized rats. In the first experiment, a 20-minute infusion of a hypotensive dose, 95 pmole/min i.v., of the synthetic ANF decreased mean arterial pressure (MAP) by 40 +/- 3 mm Hg from a baseline of 128 +/- 5 mm Hg, and cardiac output (CO) (microsphere method) by 7.8 +/- 1.8 ml/min/100 gm from a baseline of 23.5 +/- 1.3 ml/min/100 gm. Synthetic ANF did not significantly affect the total peripheral resistance (TPR) measured at the end of the 20-minute infusion. Sodium nitroprusside (SNP), infused at an equihypotensive dose of 20 micrograms/kg/min i.v., produced the same hemodynamic profile in seven other animals; in contrast, 0.3 mg/kg i.v. of hydralazine (n = 7) lowered MAP by 56 +/- 6 mm Hg and reduced TPR index by 3.0 +/- 0.6 mm Hg/ml/min/100 gm, but did not change CO. Other than an increase in coronary blood during SNF infusion, there were no significant changes in the distribution of cardiac output. Infusion of the saline vehicle had no significant effects on any of these parameters. The results of the second experiment in anesthetized rats confirmed that hypotensive doses of 40 and 100 pmole/kg/min i.v. lowered CO (dye dilution method) from a baseline of 33 +/- 6 to a minimum of 24 +/- 2 ml/min/100 gm (p less than 0.05) without affecting TPR. In addition, synthetic ANF did not significantly affect heart rate (HR) but it slightly reduced cardiac contractility (dp/dt50). These results suggest that the hypotensive dose of synthetic ANF reduced cardiac output, partially by diminishing stroke volume, and perhaps contractility.  相似文献

As part of a larger study of serial complement profiles in glomerulonephritis plasma C3 and C4 concentrations were measured using commercially available immunodiffusion plates. A total of 303 samples were obtained from 128 patients suffering from forms of nephritis associated with hypocomplementaemia—namely, lupus nephritis, mesangiocapillary glomerulonephritis (M.C.G.N.), and acute glomerulonephritis.These simple measurements of C3 and C4 gave clinically useful information. In lupus nephritis C3 and C4 generally correlated and C4 concentrations were more often and more profoundly depressed than C3 concentrations. Neither C3 nor C4 concentrations alone correlated well with the antinuclear factor titre.In both acute glomerulonephritis and M.C.G.N. the C3 concentrations were frequently lower than 20% of normal (which was never the case in patients with lupus), while the C4 concentration was usually normal and was almost never depressed in the absence of C3 depression. This suggests activation of complement at the C3 level by the “bypass” pathway in acute nephritis as well as in M.C.G.N., though both may be operating in some patients. In acute glomerulonephritis but not in M.C.G.N. C3 concentrations returned to normal within eight to 12 weeks.The two varieties of M.C.G.N. identified by the site of the deposits in the capillary glomerular walls differed in their C3 levels. In 10 patients with intramembranous dense linear deposits the C3 was always low over very long periods of time, rising in three out of four patients only after transplantation and immunosuppression. Other patients with M.C.G.N., in contrast, often showed normal C3 concentrations. Concentrations of C4 did not differ in either group, being normal in 80% of samples from all types.  相似文献

We measured P(O2) under the shell of avian eggs indirectly, by sealing 0.05 mL glass tubes to the shell, sealing them with mercury and using an oxygen microelectrode to measure the contained gas that equilibrates with the gas in the shell membranes. This technique requires a smaller area of contact with the shell and a shorter equilibration period than established techniques, and allows measurements at several locations simultaneously and over a long period of time without endangering the embryo. P(O2) under the shell of chicken eggs decreased to 14.3 kPa on the day before hatching (day 19). P(O2) was unstable during late development and differences up to 3.1 kPa occurred transiently on opposite sides of the equator. By waxing the shell around sampling tubes, we estimated Krogh's coefficient for lateral oxygen diffusion in the shell membranes at 1.1 mmol cm(-1) d(-1) kPa(-1), a value about a third of a previous estimate. Sampling of gas under sufficiently large regions of waxed shell allowed indirect measurements of chorioallantoic venous P(O2), without affecting embryonic respiration. Venous P(O2) was 3.8 kPa on day 19. Assuming 14.3 kPa represents arterialized blood leaving the chorioallantois, it became possible to calculate the effective chorioallantoic blood flow rate, which was 3.5 mL min(-1) on day 19.  相似文献

The glycosaminoglycan composition of AH-130 ascites hepatoma cells and fluid were examined using enzymatic digestion, electrophoresis, and sequential partition fractionation. The cell-associated glycosaminoglycans were found to consist of 93% heparan sulfate, with the remainder consisting primarily of chondroitin sulfate. The glycosaminoglycans isolated from the ascitic fluid were found to consist of 58% heparan sulfate, 26% hyaluronic acid and 16% chondroitin sulfate. Dermatan sulfate was not detected in either cells or fluid. The heparan sulfate isolated from AH-130 cells is low-sulfate and highly heterogeneous with respect to biochemical composition. Fractions isolated by partition fractionation varied from 0.14 mol sulfate/mol uronic acid to 0.6 mol sulfate/mol uronic acid. Of the total sulfate 70–80% is N-sulfate in the former and 50% in the latter. Electrophoresis in 0.1 M HCl showed a highly heterogeneous material with mobility between that of hyaluronic acid and beef lung heparan sulfate. The heparan sulfate isolated from the fluid was similar to that isolated from the cells but was, however, somewhat more homogeneous with respect to charge.  相似文献
