Human African trypanosomiasis, or sleeping sickness, is still a worrying problem in Africa. Sleeping sickness is a disease for which a systematic monitoring is necessary, particularly for the trypanosomiasis caused by Trypanosoma brucei gambiense, which is characterized by a long asymptomatic stage. In the absence of specific clinical signs, mass screening of populations remains the only way to control the disease and to avoid its spreading. The lack of sensitivity and specificity of the diagnosis tests classically used led to the development of molecular tools. PCR amplification of parasite specific sequences has considerably improved the diagnostic of the parasitic infection, the stage diagnosis as well as the post-therapeutic follow-up. But there are limits with a use in routine and research is still necessary to make PCR a real tool for control of sleeping sickness.  相似文献

Due to the high lithium capacity of silicon, the composite (blended) electrodes containing silicon (Si) and graphite (Gr) particles are attractive alternatives to the all‐Gr electrodes used in conventional lithium‐ion batteries. In this Communication, the lithiation and delithiation in the Si and Gr particles in a 15 wt% Si composite electrode is quantified for each component using energy dispersive X‐ray diffraction. This quantification is important as the components cycle in different potential regimes, and interpretation of cycling behavior is complicated by the potential hysteresis displayed by Si. The lithiation begins with Li alloying with Si; lithiation of Gr occurs at later stages when the potential dips below 0.2 V (all potentials are given vs Li/Li+). In the 0.2–0.01 V range, the relative lithiation of Si and Gr is ≈58% and 42%, respectively. During delithiation, Li+ ion extraction occurs preferentially from Gr in the 0.01–0.23 V range and from Si in the 0.23–1.0 V range; that is, the delithiation current is carried sequentially, first by Gr and then by Si. These trends can be used for rational selection of electrochemical cycling windows that limits volumetric expansion in Si particles, thereby extending cell life.  相似文献

Among the alternatives to environmentally toxic and socio-economically unacceptable chemical pesticides, essential oils from Ocimum gratissimum and Cymbopogon citratus were tested on the main pests and beneficial insects of the cotton plant in Côte d′Ivoire. After extraction and chemical analysis of the essential oils, field trials were carried out using a Fisher block system with three treatment repetitions where their effects compared with those of a registered synthetic insecticide (IBIS A 52 EC). Foliar applications of the products were carried out in accordance with the cotton plant protection extension programme in Côte d′Ivoire from the 45th to the 115th day after plant emergence, with one application every fortnight. Twenty-three and forty compounds representing about 96 and 99 % of the oil composition of O. gratissimum and C. citratus respectively were elucidated. The most abundant compounds were p-cymene and thymol (O. gratissimum) and myrcene, neral and geranial (C. citratus). The essential oil of O. gratissimum at concentrations of 2 and 5 % showed insecticidal activity on all pests (biting-sucking and carpophagous), except the phyllophagous Syllepte derogata. C. citratus, at a low concentration (1 %), was particularly toxic to whiteflies (Bemisia tabaci), however, it favoured the action of beneficial insects, specifically black ants and ladybirds in the cotton plots, unlike the chemical product. EO of O. gratissimum (1.60 and 4.62 mg GALAE/g, respectively) and C. citratus (2.26 and 2.78 mg GALAE, respectively) exhibited also significant acetyl and butyryl cholinesterase inhibitors. Insecticide formulations based on the essential oils of O. gratissimum and C. citratus offer favourable prospects for their use in cotton cultivation as an alternative to chemical pesticides.  相似文献

Resistance to Cocoa Swollen Shoot Virus disease (CSSVD) is becoming an increasingly important criterion for selection of new cocoa cultivars in Côte-d’Ivoire, where the disease resurfaced since 2003. This virus can seriously affect the yield of trees with a loss of 25%, 1 year after infection, to around 100% 3 years after. In order to find tolerant plant material, 337 farm accessions have been collected on fields affected by CSSVD, according to the status of accessions potentially tolerant (APT) or susceptible (APS). Both phenotypic groups were genotyped using 30 microsatellite markers (SSR) in the presence of representative clones of the ten genetic groups of cocoa. This study revealed 214 alleles with the set of primer pairs used. The number of alleles per locus was between 3 and 16 with an average of 7.13 alleles per locus. The results showed a high contribution of genetic diversity within population (Hs?=?0.51) to the total genetic diversity (Ht?=?0.53) for the two studied groups. There was no significant difference between tolerant and susceptible groups (Fst?=?0.05). These results suggest that APT could be a potential genetic reservoir for other traits of interest associated with virus resistance. The phylogenetic tree, as the STRUCTURE analysis of Ivorian cocoa population, showed a distribution of individuals following four groups marked by a high contribution of group 4 (Nanay, Maranon, Guiana) followed by group 2 (Criollo), and group 1 (Amelonado), and a lower contribution of group 3 (Iquitos, Purus, Nacional, Curaray, Contamana).  相似文献

The synthesis and characterization of seven new solid complexes, [Cu(2-MeSnic)2 (phen)] (2-MeSnic = 2-methylthionicotinate, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline), [CuX2(bipy)(H2O)] (X = 2-MeSnic or nic (nicotinate), bipy = 2,2′-bipyridine), [Cu(isonic)2(bipy)(H2O)] · H2O (isonic = isonicotinate), [Cu(bipy)2(H2O)](2-MeSnic)2 · 3H2O, [Cu(phen)2(H2O)](isonic) 2 · 2H2O and [Cu(phen)2(H2O)](nic)2 · 3H2O, are reported. The composition and stereochemistry as well as the mode of ligand coordination have been determined by elemental analysis, IR, electronic and EPR spectra. The carboxyl group of the pyridinecarboxylate anions coordinates to the Cu(II) atom as an unidentate or as a chelating ligand. The EPR spectra of studied complexes are monomeric except for the spectrum of [Cu(2-MeSnic)2(bipy)(H2O)], which shows triplet state feature. Half-field transition, observed for [Cu(2-MeSnic)2(bipy)(H2O)], [Cu(bipy)2(H2O)](2-MeSnic)2 · 3H2O and [Cu(phen)2(H2O)](nic)2 · 3H2O, was used to estimate the interspin copper-copper distances. In all cases, the available evidence supports square-pyramidal environment about the copper(II) atom, which is confirmed by crystal and molecular structure of one of the products, namely [Cu(2-MeSnic)2(bipy)(H2O)]. The antimicrobial effects have been tested on various strains of bacteria, yeasts and filamentous fungi.  相似文献

This study investigated the diversity and dynamics of yeasts involved in alcoholic fermentation of a traditional sorghum beer from Côte d’Ivoire, tchapalo. A total of 240 yeast strains were isolated from fermenting sorghum wort inoculated with dry yeast from two geographic regions of Côte d’Ivoire (Abidjan and Bondoukou). Initial molecular identification to the species level was carried out using RFLP of PCR-amplified internal transcribed spacers of rDNA (ITS1-5.8S-ITS2). Ten different profiles were obtained from the restriction of PCR products with the three endonucleases HaeIII, CfoI and HinfI. Sequence analysis of the D1/D2 domain of the 26S rDNA and the ACT1 gene allowed us to assign these groups to six different species: Saccharomyces cerevisiae-like, Candida tropicalis, Pichia kudriavzevii, Pichia kluyveri, Kodamaea ohmeri and Meyerozyma caribbica. The most frequent species associated with tchapalo fermentation was S. cerevisiae-like (87.36%), followed by C. tropicalis (5.45%) and M. caribbica (2.71%). S. cerevisiae-like strains were diploid heterozygotes and exhibited three to four nucleotides divergence from the type strain in the D1/D2 domain and several indels in the more discriminant sequence of the intron of the ACT1 gene. During the process, the yeast species isolated and their frequencies varied according to the geographic origin of the dry yeast. The occurrence of some species was sporadic and only two non-Saccharomyces species were found in the final product.  相似文献

The role of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) in the control of migratory endoparasitic nematodes is nowadays largely admitted. Most studies were conducted under greenhouse conditions and a few used in vitro cultures with transgenic root organs. Here, we reported, for the first time, on the interaction between an AMF, Rhizophagus irregularis MUCL 41833 and Radopholus similis in roots of banana plantlets grown under in vitro culture conditions. The banana plantlets were pre-mycorrhized in an extraradical mycelium network arising from a Medicago truncatula donor seedling, before transfer to an autotrophic in vitro cultivation system and subsequent nematode inoculation. Both microorganisms were able to complete their life cycle in the absence as well as in presence of each other. The total R. similis population (i.e., summed over the roots and growth medium) as well as the surface of root necrosis was significantly reduced by 60 and 56 %, respectively, in the AMF-colonized banana plantlets. By contrast, nematodes had no visible impact on root colonization (i.e., percentage of arbuscules, intraradical spores/vesicles, and hyphae) by AMF and on the number of spores and hyphal length produced in the medium. These results clearly demonstrated that pre-mycorrhized banana plants could outcompete R. similis, while root colonization was not affected by the nematodes. They underline the interest of the novel in vitro cultivation system as a promising tool to investigate the biochemical factors and molecular mechanisms involved in the bio-protection conferred by AMF to a major root pathogen of banana.  相似文献
