The authors present an approach for explicit modeling of spatio-temporal dynamics of predator-prey community. This approach is based on a reaction-diffusion-adjection PD (prey dependent) system. Local kinetics of population is determined by logistic reproduction function of prey, constant natural mortality of predator and Holling type 2 trophic function. Searching behavior of predator is described by the advective term in predator balance equation assuming the predator acceleration to be proportional to the prey density gradient. The model was studied with zero-flux boundary conditions. The influence of predator searching activity on the community dynamics, in particular, on the emergence of spatial heterogeneity, has been investigated by linear analysis and numerical simulations. It has been shown how searching activity may effect the persistence of species, stabilizing predator-prey interactions at very low level of pest density. It has been demonstrated that obtaining of such dynamic regimes does not require the use of complex trophic functions.  相似文献

Principles and procedure for rapid estimation of bacteria susceptibility to antibiotics on a glucose-tryptone medium with an indicator are described. The results of the tests with 50 microbial strains of 17 species showed practically complete identity to the results of the antibiograms when the data were estimated in 3-6 hours according to the described procedure in comparison to the findings estimated in 18-24 hours on the standard media.  相似文献

HIV-infected subjects are at high risk of developing atherosclerosis, in part due to virus-induced impairment of HDL metabolism. Here, using as a model of HIV infection the NOD.Cg-Prkdc(scid)IL2rg(tm1Wjl)/SzJ (NSG) mice humanized by human stem cell transplantation, we demonstrate that LXR agonist TO901317 potently reduces viral replication and prevents HIV-induced reduction of plasma HDL. These results establish that humanized mice can be used to investigate the mechanisms of HIV-induced impairment of HDL formation, a major feature of dyslipidemia associated with HIV-1 infection, and show potential benefits of developing LXR agonists for treatment of HIV-associated cardio-vascular disease.  相似文献

In experiments on guinea pigs immunized with Francisella tularensis 15, or live tularemia vaccine (LTV), the level of heterologous protective effect to dangerous infectious diseases caused by Yersinia pestis, Burkholderia pseudomallei, B. mallei, Mycobacterium tuberculosis was studied. The study revealed that during the first 4 weeks after the subcutaneous immunization with LTV the level of resistance of the immunized animals to heterologous infective agent reliably increased as indicated by the survival rate of the animals, as well as by the survival time of those killed by infection, in comparison with the controls. Later (on day 150 after immunization) differences in death rate between the groups perceptibly decreased. Nevertheless, the 1 1/2-fold increase of the survival time of the challenged immunized animals in comparison with the controls proved the possibility of using immunization with LTV for the urgent prophylaxis and treatment not only of tularemia, but also of plague, glanders, melioidosis and tuberculosis.  相似文献

MOTIVATION: Gene annotation is the final goal of gene prediction algorithms. However, these algorithms frequently make mistakes and therefore the use of gene predictions for sequence annotation is hardly possible. As a result, biologists are forced to conduct time-consuming gene identification experiments by designing appropriate PCR primers to test cDNA libraries or applying RT-PCR, exon trapping/amplification, or other techniques. This process frequently amounts to 'guessing' PCR primers on top of unreliable gene predictions and frequently leads to wasting of experimental efforts. RESULTS: The present paper proposes a simple and reliable algorithm for experimental gene identification which bypasses the unreliable gene prediction step. Studies of the performance of the algorithm on a sample of human genes indicate that an experimental protocol based on the algorithm's predictions achieves an accurate gene identification with relatively few PCR primers. Predictions of PCR primers may be used for exon amplification in preliminary mutation analysis during an attempt to identify a gene responsible for a disease. We propose a simple approach to find a short region from a genomic sequence that with high probability overlaps with some exon of the gene. The algorithm is enhanced to find one or more segments that are probably contained in the translated region of the gene and can be used as PCR primers to select appropriate clones in cDNA libraries by selective amplification. The algorithm is further extended to locate a set of PCR primers that uniformly cover all translated regions and can be used for RT-PCR and further sequencing of (unknown) mRNA.   相似文献

To limit climate warming to 2°C above preindustrial levels, most economic sectors will need a rapid transformation toward a net zero emission of CO2. Tuna fisheries is a key food production sector that burns fossil fuel to operate but also reduces the deadfall of large-bodied fish so the capacity of this natural carbon pump to deep sea. Yet, the carbon balance of tuna populations, so the net difference between CO2 emission due to industrial exploitation and CO2 sequestration by fish deadfall after natural mortality, is still unknown. Here, by considering the dynamics of two main contrasting tuna species (Katsuwonus pelamis and Thunnus obesus) across the Pacific since the 1980s, we show that most tuna populations became CO2 sources instead of remaining natural sinks. Without considering the supply chain, the main factors associated with this shift are exploitation rate, transshipment intensity, fuel consumption, and climate change. Our study urges for a better global ocean stewardship, by curbing subsidies and limiting transshipment in remote international waters, to quickly rebuild most pelagic fish stocks above their target management reference points and reactivate a neglected carbon pump toward the deep sea as an additional Nature Climate Solution in our portfolio. Even if this potential carbon sequestration by surface unit may appear low compared to that of coastal ecosystems or tropical forests, the ocean covers a vast area and the sinking biomass of dead vertebrates can sequester carbon for around 1000 years in the deep sea. We also highlight the multiple co-benefits and trade-offs from engaging the industrial fisheries sector with carbon neutrality.  相似文献

The simple model of school and swarm formation is proposed within the frameworks of Eulerian space models (reaction-diffusion-advection system). Assuming that the schooling and the processes of birth-and-death act on different time scales, we have excluded the local kinetics of species (the reaction term) from the model. The spatial dynamics of animals is circumscribed by scalar field of density and vector field of velocity. The basis of animal aggregation in space is the ability of animals to move in certain direction, i.e. taxis. As an example of swarming strategy the behavior of midges is taken: we presume that individuals accelerate towards higher swarm density but change direction when the density exceeded some maximum. In other words, acceleration of movement is assumed to be proportional (with density-dependent coefficient of proportionality) to the gradient of species density. This statement poses the equation for species velocity. Thus, our model adds the differential equation for velocity of autotaxis to the standard advection-diffusion model. The linear analysis of 1D problem with zero-flux boundary conditions has showed that homogeneous nonzero equilibrium looses its stability when the movement rate of animals (coefficient of proportionality in velocity equation) overpasses some bifurcation value. The numerical experiments have confirmed analytical results, displaying stationary spatially heterogeneous solution (standing waves) for the detected supercritical value of the movement rate.  相似文献

Burkholderia pseudomallei-like microorganisms have been isolated from soil and water in regions with endemic melioidosis. These strains have biochemical and antigenic profiles identical to melioidosis agents, except that they differ by virulence and L-arabinose (vir-, ara+). There are minor differences between these species by rRNA sequence. DNA hybridization and, more so, positive transformation of DNA auxotrophic mutants of B. pseudomallei by cell lysates of B. thailandensis and B. mallei confirmed the homology of these species' genomes. These members of the Burkholderia genus (pseudomallei, mallei, and thailandensis) can be regarded as a supraspecies taxon: pseudomallei group. B. thailandensis strains are not virulent for guinea pigs and slightly virulent for golden hamsters. Immunization with live cultures of B. thailandensis protected more than 50% guinea pigs challenged with 200 LD50 B. pseudomallei 100. B. thailandensis is suggested as a potential melioidosis vaccine.  相似文献
