Effects of hypoxic stimulation in experimental animals and in children with bronchial asthma]

Inhalations using hypoxic mixture of 12-15% O2 were tested in 40 rats (daily for 20 min. during 1-4 months) and in 200 children with light and mid-serious forms of bronchial asthma (for 5-10 min. 2-4 times with 5 min. break, course-10 days). Stimulation effect in animals was observed for 1-2 months and then depression came. The immunological and allergological indices were observed to distinctly improve, whereas the indices of the pulmonary function remained practically unchanged. The clinical indices in most patients improved and the similarity of this method and effects of other nonmedicamental methods was noted.     

Association of polymorphisms and haplotypes in the 5′ region of COLIA1 gene with the risk of osteoporotic fractures in Russian women from Volga-Ural region

The analysis of ?1997G/T, ?1663indelT, and +1245G/T polymorphic loci of the 5′-region of COLIA1 gene in 124 females aged from 50 to 70 years old with low numbers of traumatic fractures as well as 150 healthy individuals from Volga-Ural region has been conducted. The association of ?1663indelT and +1245G/T loci with the risk of osteoporotic fractures has been discovered. It has been shown that ?1997*G*G/?1663*I*D/+1245*G*T genotype combination and ?1997*G/?1663*D/+1245*T haplotype can be considered as markers for fracture development.     

Comparative immunologic effectiveness of variants of the DTP vaccine

The immunological effectiveness of two batches of adsorbed DPT vaccine, the batch with the normal content of antigens (control) and the batch with the content of diphtheria and tetanus toxoids reduced to 20 Lf/ml and 5 BU/ml respectively (test batch), has been studied under the conditions of controlled trial. As a result, the reduction of the antigenic content of adsorbed DPT vaccine has been found to exert no negative influence on the immunological effectiveness of the diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis components of this preparation under the conditions of the new immunization schedule.     

Comparison of chromosome aberrations, sister chromatid exchanges and unscheduled DNA synthesis in the evaluation of the mutagenicity of environmental factors

Mutagenic character of formaldehyde in vivo was estimated by determining the level of chromosomal aberrations, sister chromatid exchanges and unscheduled DNA synthesis in human lymphocytes. It was found that in case of occupational exposure to formaldehyde the unscheduled DNA synthesis after thiophosphamide treatment in vitro was inhibited and spontaneous level of chromosomal aberrations increased. A negative correlation observed between the unscheduled DNA synthesis and sister chromatid exchanges indirectly confirmed a connection of these exchanges with the DNA repair. The comparison of the results obtained from evaluation of chromosomal aberrations, sister chromatid exchanges and unscheduled DNA synthesis permits suggesting that these methods estimate different sides of the mutagen interaction with a cell and should be considered as mutually complementary methods but not as interchangeable ones.
