We studied the distribution of Lepadellidae (Rotifera) in freshwater habitats in the floodplain of the River Rusizi in northwest Burundi. Twenty-three species belonging to ColurellaBory de St. Vincent, 1824 (3 species), Lepadella Bory de St. Vincent, 1826 (18 species) and Squatinella Bory de St. Vincent, 1826 (2 species) are recorded, 22 of them are new to Burundi. One of the taxa encountered probably represents an unnamed species. Lepadella arabicaSegers & Dumont, 1993 is recognised as junior subjective synonym of Lepadella eurysterna Myers, 1942 (syn. nov.). Most of the taxa recorded are cosmopolitan or tropicopolitan, two are restricted to the tropical regions of the Old World and Australia, and one, Squatinella lunata Segers, 1993 is an Ethiopian endemic. 相似文献

The recent rise in atmospheric methane (CH4) concentrations accelerates climate change and offsets mitigation efforts. Although wetlands are the largest natural CH4 source, estimates of global wetland CH4 emissions vary widely among approaches taken by bottom-up (BU) process-based biogeochemical models and top-down (TD) atmospheric inversion methods. Here, we integrate in situ measurements, multi-model ensembles, and a machine learning upscaling product into the International Land Model Benchmarking system to examine the relationship between wetland CH4 emission estimates and model performance. We find that using better-performing models identified by observational constraints reduces the spread of wetland CH4 emission estimates by 62% and 39% for BU- and TD-based approaches, respectively. However, global BU and TD CH4 emission estimate discrepancies increased by about 15% (from 31 to 36 TgCH4 year−1) when the top 20% models were used, although we consider this result moderately uncertain given the unevenly distributed global observations. Our analyses demonstrate that model performance ranking is subject to benchmark selection due to large inter-site variability, highlighting the importance of expanding coverage of benchmark sites to diverse environmental conditions. We encourage future development of wetland CH4 models to move beyond static benchmarking and focus on evaluating site-specific and ecosystem-specific variabilities inferred from observations. 相似文献

The leaves of Phaseolus vulgaris L. cv Greensleeves contain an endopeptidase with a pH optimum of 9.0 and an isoelectric point between 10.0 and 10.5. This endopeptidase is the only abundant Azocoll-digesting proteinase in the leaves. The activity of this enzyme is highest in immature leaves and declines as the leaf matures and senesces. Enzymically isolated protoplasts contain very little of this proteinase. The proteinase can be recovered readily from the extracellular fluid obtained by gentle centrifugation of leaf strips vacuum-infiltrated with a buffered solution. These experiments indicate that the Azocoll digesting proteinase is located in the periplasmic space and/or the cell wall. 相似文献

A gram-negative, rod-shaped, gas-vacuolate, aerobic, heterotrophic bacterium was isolated from Spirit Lake, Washington. It was further characterized by phase-contrast and electron microscopy and phenotypic tests. The isolate does not utilize carbohydrates. Deoxyribonucleic acid-ribosomal ribonucleic acid (rRNA) hybridizations showed that this bacterium is a member of rRNA superfamily IV where it occupies a separate position on the Azorhizobium caulinodans rRNA sub-branch which, is part of an rRNA cluster containing also the Beijerinckia, the Bradyrhizobium japonicum and the Rhodopseudomonas palustris sub-branches. Its relationship to other gas-vacuolated genera within rRNA superfamily IV is discussed. A new genus Aquabacter with one species Aquabacter spiritensis is proposed. We studied whether combined pressure and transesophageal ultrasound monitoring is feasible in the intensive care unit (ICU) setting for global cardiovascular hemodynamic monitoring [systemic vascular resistance (SVR) and total arterial compliance (C(PPM))] and direct estimation of local ascending and descending aortic mechanical properties, i.e., distensibility and compliance coefficients (DC and CC). Pressure-area data were fitted to the arctangent Langewouters model, with aortic cross-sectional area obtained via automated border detection. Data were measured in 19 subjects at baseline, during infusion of sodium nitroprusside (SNP), and after washout. SNP infusion lowered SVR from 1.15 +/- 0.40 to 0.80 +/- 0.32 mmHg.ml(-1).s (P < 0.05), whereas C(PPM) increased from 0.87 +/- 0.46 to 1.02 +/- 0.42 ml/mmHg (P < 0.05). DC and CC increased from 0.0018 +/- 0.0007 to 0.0025 +/- 0.0009 l/mmHg (P < 0.05) and from 0.0066 +/- 0.0028 to 0.0083 +/- 0.0026 cm2/mmHg (P < 0.05), respectively, at the descending, but not ascending, aorta. The Langewouters model fitted the descending aorta data reasonably well. Assessment of local mechanical properties of the human ascending aorta in a clinical setting by automated border detection remains technically challenging. 相似文献

Despite all technological innovations in esophageal stent design over the past 20 years, the association between the stent design’s mechanical behavior and its effect on the clinical outcome has not yet been thoroughly explored. A parametric numerical model of a commercially available esophageal bioresorbable polymeric braided wire stent is set up, accounting for stent design aspects such as braiding angle, strut material, wire thickness, degradation and friction between the wires comprising a predictive tool on the device’s mechanical behavior. Combining this tool with complex multilayered numerical models of the pathological in vivo stressed, actively contracting and buckling esophagus could provide clinicians and engineers with a patient-specific window into the mechanical aspects of stent-based esophageal intervention. This study integrates device and soft tissue mechanics in one computational framework to potentially aid in the understanding of the occurrence of specific symptoms and complications after stent placement. 相似文献

Ninety-three freshwater habitats in the north-eastern part of Thailand were surveyed for rotifers during March–October 1993. Two hundred species were identified, 120 of which are new to Thailand. Brachionus africanuss Segers, B. lyratus Shephard and Trichocerca hollaerti De Smet are new to Asia. Brachionus niwati n.sp. is described and figured. Brachionus donneri Brehm, Keratella edmondsoni (Ahlstrom) and Lecane blachei Berzi, endemic to south and southeast Asia, were found also.Comments are presented on some insufficiently known taxa. Of special zoogeographic interest is the record of several species previously considered endemic to Australia. Summary A gynaecological out-patient population consisting of 200 patients aged 19–43 years (mean age 34.2 years) was screened for the presence of human papillomavirus (HPV) by the polymerase chain reaction and in situ hybridization on cervical scrapings. A novel method was applied for the detection of HPV in cervical cells by embedding them in a paraffin block before in situ hybridization was performed. This technique resulted in well preserved cytological morphology, easy performance and economy of probes. In eight of the 200 patients (4%), human papillomavirus DNA was revealed by the polymerase chain reaction. Subtyping revealed the presence of HPV serotype 16 DNA in three of these patients. In one patient HPV serotype 18 DNA was also present. The in situ hybridization assay was able to detect all those cases with a specific HPV serotype infection. 相似文献
