This paper focuses on the disparate phenomena we psychologize as “selfhood”. A central argument is that, far from being a
deus ex machina as required in the Cartesian schema, our felt experience of self is above all a consequence of data compression.
In coming to this conclusion, it considers in turn the Cartesian epiphany, other traditional and contemporary perspectives,
and a half-century’s empirical work in the Freeman lab on neurodynamics. We introduce the concept of consciousness qua process

Skin mucosal lymphoid tissues of fish are the first line of defence against pathogen invasion. We investigated the effects of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum subsp. plantarum L7, singularly or in combination with Limosilactobacillus reuteri P16, on mucosal immunity and diseases resistance of carp Cyprinus carpio. C. carpio (average weight: 26.28 ± 1.02 g) were divided into five experimental groups. Fish in each group were fed with one of the following potential probiotic-supplemented diets: control (0 – basal diet), D1 (107 CFU/g L7), D2 (108 CFU/g L7), D3 (109 CFU/g L7), and D4 (108 CFU/g L7 + 108 CFU/g P16). Eight weeks post-feeding, growth performance was higher in D4, with a final weight gain of 67.18 ± 1.47 g. Results showed a significantly higher skin mucosal lysozyme, alkaline phosphatase, mucus protein level, superoxide dismutase, and catalase activities in D2 and D4 compared to the control. However, potential probiotics had no significant effect on skin mucosal immunoglobulin level. Skin mucus of D4 exhibited stronger inhibition zones against pathogenic bacterial strains. Moreover, digestive enzyme activities (protease, lipase) were highest in D4. Intesinal lactic acid bacterial counts of fish fed combind probiotics (i.e. D4) was significantly higher than the control. Further, supplementation of potential probiotics altered the expression of IL-1β, TNF-α, and IL-10 cytokines. Fish from D4 exhibited significantly higher relative post-challenge survival (69.7%) against Aeromonas hydrophila, followed by D2 (66.67%). Therefore, the inclusion of L. plantarum subsp. plantarum L7 at 108 CFU/g or in combination with L. reuteri P16 could enhance the growth performance, mucosal immune responses, and disease resistance of C. carpio.
The recent development of high-energy LiCoO2 (LCO) and progress in the material recycling technology have brought Co-based materials under the limelight, although their capacity still suffers from structural instability at highly delithiated states. Thus, in this study, a secondary doping ion substitution method is proposed to improve the electrochemical reversibility of LCO materials for Li-ion batteries. To overcome the instability of LCO at highly delithiated states, Na ions are utilized as functional dopants to exert the pillar effect at the Li sites. In addition, Fe-ion substitution (secondary dopant) is performed to provide thermodynamically stable surroundings for the Na-ion doping. Density functional theory calculations reveal that the formation energy for the Na-doped LCO is significantly reduced in the presence of Fe ions. Na and Fe doping improve the capacity retention as well as the average voltage decay at a cutoff voltage of 4.5 V. Furthermore, structural analysis indicates that the improved cycling stability results from the suppressed irreversible phase transition in the Na- and Fe-doped LCO. This paper highlights the fabrication of high-energy Co-rich materials for high voltage operations, via a novel ion substitution method, indicating a new avenue for the manufacturing of layered cathode materials with a long cycle life. 相似文献
In the end-plates of rat diaphragm among atypical miniature end-plate currents (MEPCs) 2.9% were giant and 5.1% were slowly rising. The frequency of the giant MEPCs was decreased when temperature was lowered and increased when acetylcholinesterase (AChE) was inhibited; the latter effect was reversed if d-tubocurarine was added. Frequency of the slowly rising MEPCs changed insignificantly by all conditions. It is suggested that a highly temperature-dependent presynaptic mechanism of giant MEPC generation does exist which is activated by acetylcholine (ACh). Data about changes in the time course of the slowly rising MEPCs by AChE inhibition and lowering of temperature make it possible to suggest that the slowly rising MEPCs may be accounted for either slow release of ACh quanta or release of quanta on large distances from synaptic cleft and postsynaptic cholinoreceptors. The c-Ha-ras-1 locus in 84 cancer patients was examined for allelic restriction fragment length's polymorphism, as well as for distribution of four common c-Ha-ras-1 alleles (a1, a2, a3 and a4) in lung, ovarian and thyroid cancer patients. In approximately half (8 out of 15) lung and ovarian carcinomas possessing a4 allele, alterations in the Ha-ras locus (deletion, amplification and change in allele length) were detected, as compared to 2 cases of rearrangements out of 40 tumors lacking the a4 allele. An increased a4 allele frequency was found in individuals with lung and ovarian carcinomas, as compared to both controls--summarized literature data, and thyroid cancer patients. On the other hand, homozygosity for the a2 locus, resulting from deletion in another allele, and increased a2 allele frequency in thyroid cancer patients were observed. Thus, a4 and a2 alleles of the c-Ha-ras-1 may perhaps be viewed as genetic markers of predisposition to lung, ovarian and thyroid cancer, respectively, in combination with other clinical parameters. 相似文献
