Examples of Müllerian mimicry, in which resemblance between unpalatable species confers mutual benefit, are rare in vertebrates. Strong comparative evidence for mimicry is found when the colour and pattern of a single species closely resemble several different model species simultaneously in different geographical regions. Todemonstrate this, it is necessary to provide compelling evidence that the putative mimics do, in fact, form a monophyletic group. We present molecular phylogenetic evidence that the poison frog Dendrobates imitator mimics three different poison frogs in different geographical regions in Peru. DNA sequences from four different mitochondrial gene regions in putative members of a single species are analysed using parsimony, maximum-likelihood and neighbour-joining methods. The resulting hypotheses of phylogenetic relationships demonstrate that the different populations of D.imitator form a monophyletic group. To our knowledge, these results provide the first evidence for a Müllerian mimetic radiation in amphibians in which a single species mimics different sympatric species in different geographical regions.  相似文献

Larval triphenism and the evolution of alternative life-cycles in a microbotrophic nematode: Rhabditis (P.) orbitalis – a larval parasite in the eye orbits of murid rodents Along with the normal third stage larva and the resistant dauerlarva, Rh. orbitalis posesses an infective larva, which is an obligate parasite in the eye orbits of mice and voles. Dauerlarvae as well as infective larvae develop from a common pre-stage («girdle-larva»), determined by the quality of food stored in the intestinal cells. – Dauerlarvae may tolerate desiccation (at room-temperature and -humidity) up to 4 weeks. If stored in tap water (at 6°C), they will survive for some month being able to restore development. – Infective larvae never survive desiccation but can also be stored in tap water at low temperatures. Food uptake from the lachrymal fluid of a host is needed prior to restoring development. The phenomenon involved is referred to as a necessary adaptation to the ecological conditions in the rodents' nests. It is also pointed out to the different strategies of other parasitic nematode species.  相似文献

Jede Geschmacksknospe ist aus 2 Zelltypen aufgebaut: den Rezeptorzellen und den sie umhüllenden Stützzellen. Die sich von der Geschmacksknospenbasis bis zur Oberfläche erstreckenden Stützzellen tragen einen Mikrovillibesatz. — Die einheitlich gestalteten Rezeptoren, die im Längsschnitt spindelförmig, im Querschnitt rund sind, besitzen zum Unterschied von den Stützzellen zahlreiche Mitochondrien und peripher gelagerte Vesikel sowie 2 Typen von Tubuli. Der Zellapex trägt einen über die freie Oberfläche senkrecht hinausragenden, schlankkegelförmigen Fortsatz mit rundem oder ovalem Querschnitt. — Innerhalb der Bindegewebspapille befindet sich dicht unter der Geschmacksknospenbasis ein Plexus von Axonbündeln, von dem aus die Axone meist einzeln an das Perikaryon der Rezeptorzellen herantreten. In der Nähe der Kontaktstelle mit dem Rezeptor sind häufig Tubulibündel zu finden. — Die meisten Geschmacksknospen enthalten einzelne degenerierende Zellen. — Im Epithel zwischen den Geschmacksknospen wurde ein besonderer Sekretzellentyp nachgewiesen.

Summary The taste buds of the barbels of Corydoras paleatus have been studied with the electron microscope. Each taste bud is composed of two cell types: receptor cells and supporting cells. The supporting cells extend from the base of the taste bud to the surface where they bear microvilli. The apex of the uniform, spindle shaped receptor cells has a free, cone-shaped appendage. The receptor cells, unlike the supporting cells, contain numerous mitochondria, peripherally-located vesicles, and two types of tubuli. Single axons project from a nerve plexus close to the base of the taste bud and run to perikarya of the receptor cells. Frequently bundles of tubuli lie close to the area of contact between axon and receptor cell membranes. Most of the taste buds contain individual degenerating cells. A special type of secretory cell is present in the epithelium of the barbels.

The influence of colchicine on human T-cell Fc mu- and Fc gamma-receptor expression during culture was studied utilizing a rosette technique with bovine erythrocytes coated with IgM (EOx-IgM) or IgG (EOx-IgG). Treatment of T cells with greater than or equal to 10(-6) M concentrations of colchicine induced in these cells progressive loss of microtubules and surface microvilli, inhibited their Fc mu-, but not Fc gamma-receptor expression during culture, and increased their cyclic AMP levels. However, similar treatment of cells with lumicolchicine, a photoinactivated isomer, identically inhibited the T-cell Fc mu-receptor expression as well, without inducing loss of microtubules or microvilli or raising cyclic AMP levels in them. A direct influence on T-cell protein synthesis by either colchicine or lumicolchicine is likely, as greater than or equal to 10(-6) M concentrations of alkaloid identically inhibited [3H]leucine incorporation and Fc mu-receptor expression by T cells without inhibiting their alpha-methyl isobutyric acid transport. No impairment of optimal EOx-IgM rosette formation occurred in control T lymphocytes cultured for 24 hr and then treated with colchicine, which suggests that its effects did not directly influence the receptor-ligand interaction itself. These findings suggest colchicine has several sites of action on T cells, dependent and independent of microtubular depolymerization, which may be responsible for alterations of T-lymphocyte cellular metabolism and function.  相似文献

Abstract Pseudomonas putida strain CLB 250 (DSM 5232) utilized 2-bromo-, 2-chloro- and 2-fluorobenzoate as sole source of carbon and energy. Degradation is suggested to be initiated by a dioxygenase liberating halide in the first catabolic step. After decarboxylation and rearomatization catechol is produced as a central metabolite which is degraded via the ortho-pathway. After inhibition of ring cleavage activities with 3-chlorocatechol, 2-chlorobenzoate was transformed to catechol in nearly stoichiometric amounts. Other ortho -substituted benzoates like anthranilate and 2-methoxybenzoate seem to be metabolized via the same route.  相似文献

Previous studies showed that geraniol could be an upstream limiting factor in the monoterpenoid pathway towards the production of terpenoid indole alkaloid (TIA) in Catharanthus roseus cells and hairy root cultures. This shortage in precursor availability could be due to (1) limited expression of the plastidial geraniol synthase resulted in a low activity of the enzyme to catalyze the conversion of geranyl diphosphate to geraniol; or (2) the limitation of geraniol transport from plastids to cytosol. Therefore, in this study, C. roseus’s geraniol synthase (CrGES) gene was overexpressed in either plastids or cytosol of a non-TIA producing C. roseus cell line. The expression of CrGES in the plastids or cytosol was confirmed and the constitutive transformation lines were successfully established. A targeted metabolite analysis using HPLC shows that the transformed cell lines did not produce TIA or iridoid precursors unless elicited with jasmonic acid, as their parent cell line. This indicates a requirement for expression of additional, inducible pathway genes to reach production of TIA in this cell line. Interestingly, further analysis using NMR-based metabolomics reveals that the overexpression of CrGES impacts primary metabolism differently if expressed in the plastids or cytosol. The levels of valine, leucine, and some metabolites derived from the shikimate pathway, i.e. phenylalanine and tyrosine were significantly higher in the plastidial- but lower in the cytosolic-CrGES overexpressing cell lines. This result shows that overexpression of CrGES in the plastids or cytosol caused alteration of primary metabolism that associated to the plant cell growth and development. A comprehensive omics analysis is necessary to reveal the full effect of metabolic engineering.  相似文献

Inward rectifier K+ channels of the Kir1.1 (ROMK) and Kir4.1 subtype are predominantly expressed in epithelial cells where they are responsible for K+ transport across the plasma membrane. Uniquely among the members of the Kir family, these channels are gated by intracellular pH in the physiological range. pH-gating involves structural rearrangements in cytoplasmic domains and the P-loop of the Kir protein. The energy for the gating transition is delivered by protonation of a lysine residue that is located prior to the first transmembrane segment and serves as a 'pH sensor'. The anomalous titration required for lysine operating in the neutral pH range results from its close interaction with two positively charged arginines from the distant N- and C-termini termed the R/K/R triad. Disturbance of this triad as results from a number of point mutations found in patients with hyperprostaglandin E syndrome (HPS) increases the pKa of the pH sensor and results in channels being permanently inactivated under physiological conditions. This article will focus on the mechanism of pH-gating, its implications for the tertiary structure of Kir proteins and on its significance for the pathogenesis of HPS.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to investigate differences in myoelectric responses to fatigue development between cases with chronic neck-shoulder pain (n=10) and healthy controls (n=10) during a low force level sustained contraction. Subjects performed a 15-min isometric shoulder elevation at a force level of 40 N (sustained contraction), preceded and followed by a step contraction, consisting of five force levels from 20 to 100 N. EMG recordings were made with a two-dimensional electrode array on the upper trapezius of the dominant side. Root-mean-square (RMS(G)), median power frequency (FMED(G)), conduction velocity (CV), number of motor unit action potentials per second (MUAP Rate) and MUAP shape properties were estimated. Changes over time and differences between the groups were statistically evaluated with a linear mixed model. During the sustained contraction, cases showed less increase in RMS(G) than controls (controls: 58.5%, cases: 33.0%). FMED(G) and CV decreased in controls (FMED(G): -6.3%, CV: -5.3%) and stayed constant (FMED(G)) or slightly increased (CV, 3.15%) in cases. Overall, cases showed a less pronounced myoelectric response to the fatiguing task than controls, which may be related to additional recruitment of higher-threshold MUs. A possible explanation might be that cases were already (chronically) fatigued before the experiment started.  相似文献
