Question: Can we predict the spatial distribution of plant communities in semi‐arid rangelands based on a limited set of environmental variables? Where are priority areas for conservation located? Location: Al Jabal al Akhdar, Sultanate of Oman. Methods: A Classification Tree Analysis (CTA) was used to model the presence/absence of seven rangeland communities and agricultural areas based on seven selected environmental predictor variables. The latter were either obtained from existing digital datasets or derived from a digital elevation model and satellite images, whereas the grazing intensity was spatially modelled with the kernel density estimation technique. The resulting decision rules of a CTA were applied for predictive mapping within the study area (400 km2, resolution of 5 m) by means of ENVI's decision tree classifier. Plant communities of natural rangelands were subsequently evaluated to determine priority areas for nature conservation. Results: Altitude, grazing intensity and landform revealed the highest predictive power. Most of the rangelands were predicted as Sideroxylon–Oleetum. The overall classification accuracy was 89%, whereby agricultural areas and the Ziziphus spina‐christi‐Nerium oleander community at wadi sites had no misclassification. Inaccuracies occurred mainly because of low sample numbers and errors in available maps of predictor variables. The highest rank for nature conservation was observed for the Teucrio‐Juniperetum occupying 20% of the study area. Conclusions: Vegetation mapping using CTA is a valuable tool for rangeland monitoring and identification of key representative areas for nature conservation. An extrapolation of the model used might be feasible to regions adjacent to the central Hajar Mountains. 相似文献

The objective of this study is to introduce dynamic topography of surface electromyography (SEMG) to visualize lumbar muscle myoelectric activity and provides a new view to analyze muscle activity in vivo. A total of 20 healthy male subjects and 15 males LBP were enrolled. An electrode-array was applied to the lumbar region to collect SEMG. The root mean square (RMS) value was calculated for each channel, and then a 160×120 matrix was constructed using a linear cubic spline interpolation of each scan to create a 2-D color topographic image. Along a definite interval of action, a series of RMS topography matrices was concatenated as a function of position and time, to form a dynamic topographical video of lumbar muscle activity. Relative area (RA), relative width (RW), relative height (RH) and Width-to-Height Ratio (W/H) were chosen as the four quantitative parameters in measuring topographic features. Normal RMS dynamic topography was found to have a consistent, symmetric pattern with a high intensity area in the paraspinal area. LBP patients had a different RMS dynamic topography, with an asymmetric, broad, or disorganized distribution. Quantitative SEMG features were found significantly different between normal control and LBP. After physiotherapy rehabilitation, the dynamic topography images of LBP tended towards the normal pattern.There are obvious differences in lumbar muscle coordination between healthy subjects and LBP patients. The dynamic topography allows the continuous visualization of the distribution of surface EMG signals and the coordination of muscular contractions. 相似文献

Summary: The eyeless inbred mouse strain ZRDCT has long served as a spontaneous model for human anophthalmia and the evolutionary reduction of eyes that has occurred in some naturally blind mammals. ZRDCT mice have orbits but lack eyes and optic tracts and have hypothalamic abnormalities. Segregation data suggest that a small number of interacting genes are responsible, including at least one major recessive locus, ey1. Although predicted since the 1940s, these loci were never identified. We mapped ey1 to chromosome 18 using an F2 genome scan and there found a Met10→Leu mutation in Rx/rax, a homeobox gene that is expressed in the anterior headfold, developing retina, pineal, and hypothalamus and is translated via a leaky scanning mechanism. The mutation affects a conserved AUG codon that functions as an alternative translation initiation site and consequently reduces the abundance of Rx protein. In contrast to a targeted Rx null allele, which causes anophthalmia, central nervous system defects, and neonatal death, the hypomorphic M10L allele is fully viable. genesis 31:43–53, 2001. © 2001 Wiley‐Liss, Inc. 相似文献
