When studying the fate of mammalian apocytochrome P450scc (apo-P450scc) imported in small amounts into isolated yeast mitochondria, we found that it undergoes degradation, this process being retarded if recipient mitochondria are preloaded in vivo (to about 0.2% of total organelle protein) with a fusion protein composed of mammalian adrenodoxin reductase and adrenodoxin (AdR-Ad); in parallel we observed aggregation of apo-P450scc. These effects suggest some overload of Pim1p protease and/or mtHsp70 system by AdR-Ad, as both of them are involved in the degradation of apo-P450scc (see Savel'ev et al. J. Biol. Chem. 273, 20596-20602, 1998). However, under the same conditions AdR-Ad was not able to impede the import of proteins into mitochondria and the development of the mitochondrial respiratory machinery in yeast, the processes requiring the mtHsp70 system and Pim1p, respectively. These data imply that chaperones and Pim1p protease prefer their natural targets in mitochondria to imported foreign proteins. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Malignant small bowel tumors are very rare and leiomyosarcoma accounts for less than 15% of the cases. Management of these tumors is challenging in view of nonspecific symptoms, unusual presentation and high incidence of metastasis. In this case report, an unusual presentation of jejunal sarcoma and management of liver metastasis with radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is discussed. CASE PRESENTATION: A 45-year-old male presented with anemia and features of small bowel obstruction. Operative findings revealed a mass lesion in jejunum with intussusception of proximal loop. Resection of bowel mass was performed. Histopathological findings were suggestive of leiomyosarcoma. After 3-years of follow-up, the patient developed recurrence in infracolic omentum and a liver metastasis. The omental mass was resected and liver lesion was managed with radiofrequency ablation. CONCLUSION: Jejunal leiomyosarcoma is a rare variety of malignant small bowel tumor and a clinical presentation with intussusception is unusual. We suggest that an aggressive management approach using a combination of surgery and a newer technique like RFA can be attempted in patients with limited metastatic spread to liver to prolong the long-term survival in a subset of patients. 相似文献

This paper presents an algorithm for determining the content of oil products in remediated soil that is safe for plants and microorganisms. The algorithm includes laboratory modeling of the remediation of soil samples that contain different amounts of soil products, determination of the biological parameters that provide the integral characterization of the soil state in these samples, and analysis of the results on the basis of odds-ratio statistics, which allows one to determine the content of oil products, starting from which the state of an oil-contaminated soil has no significant difference from a control soil. 相似文献

The study of the central nervous system in extinct vertebrates is discussed. Historical development of the nervous system is restricted to a few morphological patterns. The foundation of structural conservatism of the nervous system is provided by the multifunctional character of any adaptive changes in the brain of vertebrates. The functional structural features allow the use of the nervous system for the resolution of some difficult questions of vertebrate evolution. 相似文献

With consideration of investigations made in 2004–2010, the spatial distribution of Lycodes tanakae, as well as some traits of its biology in Primor’e waters, is described. This species occurs all over the investigated region—from
42° to 49°N as explained by hydrological properties of bottom waters and by the bottom relief of this water area. In Promor’e
waters, Lycodes tanakae occurs at depths of 87–1034 m. However, the majority of specimens (90%) prefers depths of 200–700 m. Thus, it can be attributed
to the mesobathial ecological fish group. In spring and summer, juveniles of L. tanakae live at similar depths (200–350 m) where this species seems to spawn. In catches, L. tanakae is represented by specimens 11–90 cm in length, 0.1–4.9 kg in weight, and age from 1 to 10 years. The bulk of catches consists
of specimens 40–70 cm long (62%), up to 2.2 kg in weight (90%), and of the age 4–7 years (72%). Sexual dimorphism in linear
dimensions is not determined in L. tanakae. In summer, the ration of L. tanakae in Primor’e waters consists predominantly of cephalopods (on average, 59.4% of food weight). A noticeable part belongs to
decapods (19.8%) and fish juveniles (16.6%). The smallest analyzed specimens consume small decapods and polychaetes. At the
body length over 40 cm, L. tanakae pass over to predation. The value of the daily ration of Lycodes tanakae is, on average, 1.5% of the body weight. 相似文献

Two new dinosaurs, Kulindapteryx ukureica gen. et sp. nov. (Jeholosauridae) and Daurosaurus olovus gen. et sp. nov. (Hypsilophodontidae) from the Ukureisk Formation (?Tithonian, Upper Jurassic) of the Kulinda locality in Transbaikalia (Russia) are described and assigned to Ornithopoda (Ornithischia). The origin and homology of the so-called obturator process of the ischium of Ornithopoda and Theropoda are discussed. The families Jeholosauridae and Hypsilophodontidae as well as Lesothosauridae are considered to belong to the infraorder Hypsilophodontia (Ornithopoda, Ornithischia). It is shown that hypsilophodontians had skin scales divided into bristles. 相似文献

1. Rapid expansion and intensification of anthropogenic activities in the 20th century has caused profound changes in freshwater assemblages. Unfortunately, knowledge of the extent and causes of species loss (SL) is limited due to the lack of reliable historical data. An unusual data set allows us to compare changes in the most sensitive of aquatic insect orders, the Plecoptera, at some 170 locations in the Czech Republic between two time periods, 1955–1960 and 2006–2010. Historical data (1890–1911) on assemblages of six lowland rivers allow us to infer even earlier changes. 2. Regional stonefly diversity decreased in the first half of the 20th century. Streams at lower altitudes lost a substantial number of species, which were never recovered. In the second half of the century, large‐scale anthropogenic pressure caused SL in all habitats, leading to a dissimilarity of contemporary and previous assemblages. The greatest changes were found at sites affected by organic pollution and a mixture of organic pollution and channelisation or impoundment. Colonisation of new habitats was observed in only three of the 80 species evaluated. 3. Species of moderate habitat specialisation and tolerance to organic pollution were most likely to be lost. Those with narrow specialisations in protected habitats were present in both historical and contemporary collections. 4. Contemporary assemblages are the consequence of more than a 100 years of anthropogenic impacts. In particular, streams at lower altitude and draining intensively exploited landscapes host a mere fragment of the original species complement. Most stonefly species are less frequently present than before, although their assemblages remain almost intact in near‐natural mountain streams. Our analyses demonstrate dramatic restriction of species ranges and, in some cases, apparent changes in altitudinal preference throughout the area. 相似文献

Directional effect of natural selection on the arrangement of brain of anthropoids and man is reviewed. It is demonstrated
that the evolution of the human nervous system is an integrated result of several multidirectional processes. At the early
stages of the evolution of primates, the general biological principles of survival of the fittest, i.e., natural selection
of the most adapted variants of the brain structure prevailed. During the period of hominid specialization, natural selection
led to the formation of the neocortical control of voluntary movements, memory, and mental associations. At later stages of
human morphological evolution, biological mechanisms of natural selection of the brain arrangement were replaced by social
mechanisms. This process initiated hominid migrations and the growth of the brain size and individual variability in human
ancestors. A model of cerebral sorting is proposed to explain the mechanisms of multidirectional selection leading to an increase
in brain size of early hominids. 相似文献

The study of a natural endocranial cast of Paroxyaena has shown that its vision was an important system of afferentation, but did not prevail over others, unlike that of Neohyaenodon. The olfaction was much better developed than in Neohyaenodon. The large gyrus prorealis suggests the presence of a long mobile nose. The well-developed sensomotoric cortex is evidence that the forepaw of Paroxyaena showed a high mobility. 相似文献

Aim Over the last two decades, thousands of northward migrating ruffs (Philomachus pugnax) have disappeared from western European staging sites. These migratory ruffs were partly temperate breeding birds, but most individuals head towards the Eurasian Arctic tundras where 95% of the global population breeds. This regional decline may represent either: (1) local loss of breeding birds in western Europe, (2) a global decline, (3) shift(s) in distribution or (4) a combination of these. Location Northern Eurasia. Methods To put the declines in western Europe in context, we analysed Arctic monitoring data from the last two decades ( Soloviev & Tomkovich, 2009 ) to detect changes in regional breeding densities across northern Eurasia. We used a novel approach applying generalized additive modelling (GAM) and generalized estimations equations (GEE). Results We show that the global breeding population of ruffs has made a significant eastwards shift into the Asian part of the breeding range. In the European Arctic, ruffs decreased during the last 18 years. At the same time, in western Siberia, ruffs increased. In eastern Siberia, no significant population changes could be detected. These changes corroborate the finding that during northward migration, growing numbers of ruffs avoided staging areas in the Netherlands and Sweden and started migrating along a more easterly route leading into western Siberia. Main conclusions We detected an unprecedented large‐scale population redistribution of ruffs and suggest that this is a response to loss of habitat quality at the traditional staging site in the Netherlands. 相似文献
