Germfree rats and mice were given by gavage samples of ileal homogenates prepared from conventional rats and mice. Filamentous, segmented procaryotes adhered to the small bowel epithelium in the ex-germfree mice only when the homogenate was made from mouse bowel and in the ex-germfree rats only when the inoculum came from rats. The Pm blood group system in Peromyscus maniculatus was originally described by Rasmussen as consisting of two co-dominant alleles, PmA and PmB, responsible for the antigenic characteristics A and B. This paper describes two additional antisera, anti-C and anti-X, which expand this system and show it to be serologically complex. Anti-X is comprised of antibodies directed against at least two antigenic characteristics X‘ and X“. Four and possibly six alleles are described by the four antisera. Different subspecies exhibit different spectra of alleles at the Pm locus. A segregation distortion is evidenced.  相似文献

The contractile effects of 4-aminopyridine (4-AP) on isolated frog rectus abdominis muscles were examined, and compared with KCl-induced contractures. 4-AP (1-40 mM) caused slowly developing, concentration-dependent contractures which were not modified by (+)-tubocurarine (2.7-13.3 microM). The contractures were prolonged and very slowly relaxed (greater than 30 min) on washout. KCl-induced contractures developed more rapidly and relaxation was equally rapid, both occurring within 90 s of application and washout, respectively. KCl contractures were slightly but significantly (P less than 0.05) attenuated by (+)-tubocurarine in concentrations that blocked carbachol contractures. In calcium-free Ringer's solution, KCl (10-120 mM) responses were completely abolished, but 4-AP concentration-response curves were shifted to the right three- to four-fold. The results show that 4-AP causes contracture of the frog rectus abdominis. It is suggested that at the lower concentration employed (less than 10 mM), 4-AP increases extracellular calcium entry into the muscle, while larger concentrations produce contractures by a direct intracellular mechanism. 4-AP contractures were independent of postjunctional nicotinic cholinoceptor activation.  相似文献

Ultrastructural studies indicate that galactoflavin-induced riboflavin deficiency induces asynchrony of rat erythroblast maturation. During the latter stages of maturation erythroblasts retain significantly larger numbers of ribosomes as compared to control cells. Nucleoli are not evident in erythroblasts whose nuclei indicate cells in the latter stages of development. Membrane whorls develop within the mitochondria of plasma cells, eosinophils and neutrophils during the fifth week of riboflavin deficiency. No further evidence of degeneration was noted among additional cell organelles.  相似文献

Two male siblings presented in infancy with hyponatraemia. Levels of plasma renin activity and aldosterone were elevated. Sodium supplementation was necessary to maintain normal sodium balance. Urinary sodium concentration and renal epithelial exchange between sodium and potassium were normal; however, salivary sodium concentrations were markedly elevated with sweat sodium levels being in the upper normal range. Excess salivary sodium loss accounted for sodium depletion in these cases who present a new variant of pseudohypoaldosteronism associated with normal renal sodium transport.  相似文献
