The COVID-19 pandemic is shifting teaching to an online setting all over the world. The Galaxy framework facilitates the online learning process and makes it accessible by providing a library of high-quality community-curated training materials, enabling easy access to data and tools, and facilitates sharing achievements and progress between students and instructors. Density-dependent and extrinsic mortality are predicted to accelerate reproductive maturation. The first 5 years of life is a proposed sensitive period for life-history regulation. This study examines the ways in which local mortality during this sensitive period was related to subsequent marriage timing in nineteenth-century Belgium (n women = 11 892; n men = 14 140). Local mortality during the sensitive period was inversely associated with age at first marriage for men and women controlling for literacy, occupational status, population growth and migration. Cox regression indicated decreased time to marriage for women (HR = 1.661, 95% CI: 1.542–1.789) and men (HR = 1.327, 95% CI: 1.238–1.422) from high mortality municipalities. Rising population growth rates were associated with earlier marriage for men and women. Migration in general was associated with later marriage for men and women. Consistent with life-history predictions, harsh ecological conditions during early life such as famine coincided with earlier marriage.  相似文献

Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) is a secreted lipase that clears triglycerides from the blood. Proper LPL folding and exit from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) require lipase maturation factor 1 (LMF1), an ER‐resident transmembrane protein, but the mechanism involved is unknown. We used proteomics to identify LMF1‐binding partners necessary for LPL secretion in HEK293 cells and found these to include oxidoreductases and lectin chaperones, suggesting that LMF1 facilitates the formation of LPL's five disulfide bonds. In accordance with this role, we found that LPL aggregates in LMF1‐deficient cells due to the formation of incorrect intermolecular disulfide bonds. Cells lacking LMF1 were hypersensitive to depletion of glutathione, but not DTT treatment, suggesting that LMF1 helps reduce the ER. Accordingly, we found that loss of LMF1 results in a more oxidized ER. Our data show that LMF1 has a broader role than simply folding lipases, and we identified fibronectin and the low‐density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) as novel LMF1 clients that contain multiple, non‐sequential disulfide bonds. We conclude that LMF1 is needed for secretion of some ER client proteins that require reduction of non‐native disulfides during their folding.  相似文献

We wished to determine the influence of parental age at the birth of a retinoblastoma patient on the risk of sporadic hereditary retinoblastoma. The parental age at birth of 941 patients of the Dutch retinoblastoma register (1862–1994) was identified and compared between sporadic hereditary and nonhereditary patients. In a subcohort (1936–1994), a comparison was made with parental age at birth in the general population, as obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics. Missing birth dates of the parents of retinoblastoma patients were traced with the help of the municipal registries and the Central Bureau of Genealogy. The mean paternal age was 10.7 months higher and the mean maternal age was 11.0 months higher in the sporadic hereditary retinoblastoma patients than in parents of nonhereditary patients. In the subcohort, the mean paternal and maternal ages of sporadic hereditary patients were also higher (12.4 and 11.5 months, respectively) than those of the general population. All differences were statistically significant. This study shows that a high parental age is associated with an enhanced risk of sporadic hereditary retinoblastoma.
