The sieve elements of Nereocystis from the base of phylloids contain numerous small vesicles, cytoplasm, ribosomes, and the usual organelles and membrane systems, including nuclei, plastids, mitochondria, dictyosomes, and endoplasmic reticulum. They have a thick secondary wall layer which is deposited along the longitudinal walls and at the sieve plate excluding the sieve pores. The sieve pores range in diameter from 100 to 400 nm and are lined by plasmalemma. The sieve elements from the hollow basal parts of the pneumatocyst show essentially the same features but have larger and fewer vesicles, relatively little cytoplasm, larger sieve pores, 400–900 nm in diameter, and may lack a nucleus. In old sieve elements there are large deposits of callose on the sieve plate and along the longitudinal wall; the vesicles seem to break down, and the protoplast appears necrotic. It is concluded that the trumpet hyphae and sieve tubes are basically the same type of cell, and that the trumpet-shape of the sieve elements is due to their passive stretching during extension growth of the organ in which they occur. There are minor but significant differences among the sieve elements from different regions of the thallus which may reflect possible levels of structural specialization of the sieve elements within the same plant.  相似文献

Dicarboxylic acids and a few amino acids were found to support mitochondrial phosphorylation in A. ceylanicum. Anaerobiasis markedly reduced this activity. Maximum effect was observed on succinate supported phosphorylation which in anaerobic atmosphere yielded only 2% ATP compared to that in the presence of air. Known as well as candidate anthelmintics significantly inhibited ATP formation. Mebendazole, amongst them, registered greatest effect. Oxygen consumption by the mitochondria exhibited poor response to the action of anthelmintics other than praziquantel.  相似文献

Whereas dissociation of rabbit skeletal muscle myosin light chains occurs at an increased temperature (25°) and in the obsence of divalent cations, reassociation of the myosin oligomer requires a low temperature (4°C) and the presence of divalent cations, thus resulting in the original light to heavy chain stoichiometry. With a 5–10 per cent release of alkali light chains, LC1 and LC3, and a 50 per cent dissociation of the Ca2+ binding light chain, LC2, there is no significant decrease in myosin ATPase activity irrespective of the cation activator, however, there is an approximate 15–20 per cent decrease in actomyosin ATPase activity. With reassociation of the myosin oligomer, actomyosin ATPase activity is partially restored as well as the original number of Ca2+ binding sites.  相似文献

An estimation procedure is obtained for a stochastic compartmental model. Compartmental analysis assumes that a system may be divided into homogeneous components, or compartments. The main theory for the compartmental system was studied by Matis and Hartley (1971) with a discrete population in a steady state. All the transitions among the particles are considered to be stochastic in nature. An estimation procedure, Regular Best Asymptotic Normal (RBAN), discussed by Chiang (1956) is investigated for a stochastic m-compartmental system. The detailed proof of the procedure is provided here. Asymptotic properties for the estimator has been studied and computation has been carried out on our proposed nonlinear model. The downhill simplex search method, originally developed by Nelder and Mead (1965), and applied to minimize our quadratic form is inherently nonlinear in nature, thus avoiding the need to evaluate any derivative for point estimation of the parameters. The procedure applied to an experimental situation involving two compartments gives very encouraging results.  相似文献

Monomeric, dimeric and tetrameric forms of mouse liver catalase have been shown to express peroxidatic activity while the tetrameric form expresses the catalic activity. Autosomally inherited acatalasemia, produced by X-ray irradiation of mice results in almost complete loss of catalic activity of catalase but has no effect on the peroxidatic activity. Liver catalase from normal and acatalasemic mice was purified by following the catalic and peroxidatic activity, respectively. Antiserum produced in rabbit against catalase from normal mouse completely precipitated the catalatic and peroxidatic activity from normal liver, and peroxidatic activity from the acatalasemic liver homogenate. Similar results were obtained when antiserum against peroxidase from acatalasemic mice was used. These studies indicate that acatalasemia in mice is due to a structural gene mutation which leads to synthesis of structurally altered catalase subunits. The altered subunits express peroxidatic activity but do not combine to form a tetramer which expresses catalatic activity.  相似文献

Summary Accessory (B–) chromosomes have been reported in many plants in various regions of the world. Studies on natural populations of certain plants like Phleum phleoides revealed that B-chromosomes were present in different frequencies in different habitats indicating a correlation between B-frequency and environmental conditions. The present experiment was performed to determine the response of B-chromosome carrier and non-carrier plants of Trigonella to different soil conditions. When the morphological data was subjected to analysis of variance, it was found that the carrier plants exhibited uniformity of characters in the different soil types, while the non-carrier plants exhibited considerable variability. The conclusion that can be drawn from this experiment is that B-chromosomes act as a buffering agent, neutralising the variability effect of different soil types.  相似文献
