Three seaweeds (Halimeda tuna, Codium bursa and Cystoseira barbata) and one seagrass (Cymodocea nodosa) were collected from the Coast of Montenegro, Gulf of Boka Kotorska and their chemical analysis was performed. In seagrass C. nodosa, three phenolic compounds were identified (diosmetin 7‐sulfate, caftaric and coutaric acid). The content of β‐glucan, fatty acids, sterols and micro‐ and macro‐elements were investigated among all samples. The highest content of β‐glucan was detected in C. nodosa seagrass (13.04±0.42 g/100 g). The highest polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) level was reported in C. barbata, the brown alga (7.157 mg/g), which also had the significant sterol content (fucosterol, 21.76±0.1 μg/g). Green algae, C. bursa and H. tuna, showed the highest level of sterols (β‐sitosterol, 95.21±0.16 μg/g and 73.90±0.08 μg/g, respectively). H. tuna had the highest content of calcium (Ca) in amount of 55125 μg/g. In C. bursa, C. barbata and C. nodosa, the Na/K ratio was low (0.43, 0.46 and 0.69, respectively).  相似文献

The main objective of this work was to characterize an atrazine-mineralizing community originating from agrochemical factory soil, especially to elucidate the catabolic pathway and individual metabolic and genetic potentials of culturable members. A stable four-member bacterial community, characterized by colony morphology and 16S rDNA sequencing, was rapidly able to mineralize atrazine to CO2 and NH3. Two primary organisms were identified as Arthrobacter species (ATZ1 and ATZ2) and two secondary organisms (CA1 and CA2) belonged to the genera Ochrobactrum and Pseudomonas, respectively. PCR assessment of atrazine-degrading genetic potential of the community, revealed the presence of trzN, trzD, atzB and atzC genes. Isolates ATZ1 and ATZ2 were capable of dechlorinating atrazine to hydroxyatrazine and contained the trzN gene. ATZ2 further degraded hydroxyatrazine to cyanuric acid and contained atzB and atzC genes whereas ATZ1 contained atzC but not atzB. Isolates CA1 and CA2 grew on cyanuric acid and contained the trzD gene. Complete atrazine degradation was a result of the combined metabolic attack on the atrazine molecule, and complex interactions may exist between the community members sharing carbon and nitrogen from atrazine mineralization.Scientific relevance: Despite numerous reports on atrazine degradation by pure bacterial cultures, the pathways and the atrazine-degrading gene combinations harboured by bacterial communities are only poorly described. In this work, we characterized a four-member atrazine-mineralizing community enriched from an agrochemical factory soil, which was capable of rapidly metabolizing atrazine to CO2. This study will contribute towards better understanding of the genetic potential and metabolic activities of atrazine-degrading communities, which are generally considered to be responsible for atrazine mineralization in the natural environment.  相似文献

Ethylene is a widely distributed alkene product which is formed enzymatically (e.g., in plants) or by photochemical reactions (e.g., in the upper oceanic layers from dissolved organic carbon). Deviations from perfect symmetry in paired traits of otherwise bilateral symmetrical organisms are thought to reflect developmental quality, especially the ability to resist environmental perturbations early in ontogeny. It is well established that poor environmental conditions increase developmental instability (DI) as reflected by measurements of fluctuating asymmetry. In humans, there is evidence that DI relates to numerous fitness components, and studies have found that perceptions of facial attractiveness for example are positively correlated with measurements of facial symmetry. Here we report the data on measurements of facial symmetry of 503 Turkish senior year high school students aged 17 to 18 years, of whom 133 males and 117 females were recruited from a slum district of ?entepe in Ankara (Group 1), and 131 males and 122 females from three high schools in wealthy central urban areas (Group 2). Digital images were used to assess the degree of facial asymmetry as measured from seven paired traits and calculated as a composite score. Facial asymmetry of participants in Group 1 (slum district) was significantly higher than that of participants in Group 2 (urban areas). Moreover, males in Group 1 were found to have higher facial asymmetry than females, while no sex difference was observed in Group 2. We conclude that poor living conditions have an influence on DI in humans, which manifests itself in the form of facial asymmetry, and that this might be particularly true for males.  相似文献

The future of life on Earth depends on how the ocean might change, as it plays an important role in mitigating the effects of global warming. The main role is played by phytoplankton. Not only are phytoplankton the base of the oceans' food web, but they also play an important role in the biological carbon pump (BCP), the process of forming organic matter (OM) and transporting it to the deep sea, representing a sink of atmospheric CO2. Lipids are considered important vectors for carbon sequestration. A change in the phytoplankton community composition as a result of ocean warming is expected to affect the BCP. Many predictions indicate a dominance of small at the expense of large phytoplankton. To gain insight into interplay between the phytoplankton community structure, lipid production and degradation, and adverse environmental conditions, we analyzed phytoplankton composition, particulate organic carbon (POC) and its lipid fraction in the northern Adriatic over a period from winter to summer at seven stations with a gradient of trophic conditions. We found that at high salinity and low nutrient content, where nanophytoplankton prevailed over diatoms, the newly fixed carbon is substantially directed toward the synthesis of lipids. Lipids produced by nanophytoplankton, coccolithophores, and phytoflagellates, are more resistant to degradation than those produced by diatoms. The difference in lipid degradability is discussed as a difference in the size of the cell phycosphere. We hypothesize that the lipids of nanophytoplankton are less degradable due to the small phycosphere with a poorer bacterial community and consequently a lower lipid degradation rate compared with diatoms. The lipid chemical composition of the different phytoplankton groups could have a different susceptibility to degradation. Results suggest a successful lipid carbon sink of nanophytoplankton and, thus, a negative feedback on global warming.  相似文献

BackgroundThe goal of this study was to assess the oxidative stress status through the values of antioxidant defense parameters: superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione reductase (GR) and total antioxidant status (TAS), as well as cardiovascular risk factors (total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, VLDL-cholesterol, non-HDL-cholesterol and triglycerides), anthropometric parameters (Body mass index-BMI, waist circumference-WC, hipp circumferemce-HC, waist-to-hipp ratio-WHR and inflammatory markers (high sensitive C-reactive protein) in a group of obese adolescents.MethodsA total of 238 students of both sexes, age of 22.32 ± 1.85 yr. were included in the study. According to the values of BMI lower and higher than 25 kg/m2 and WC higher and lower than 94 cm (males)/80 cm (females) the tested group of students was divided into 2 subgroups: Group 1 (increased risk for CVD) and Group 2 (lower risk for CVD).ResultsSignificantly reduced SOD and GPx with increased GR, TAS, inflammatory and lipoprotein parameters were obtained in Group 1 compared to Group 2. Significant positive association of hsCRP (OR:1.41; 95%CI 1.08-1.83; P=0.007), TAS (OR:827.2; 95%CI 19.27-35498; P=0.007) and GR (OR:1.13; 95%CI 1.05-1.21; P=0.002) and negative association of GPx (OR:0.97; 95%CI 0.94-1.003; P=0.043) and HDL-cholesterol (OR:0.41; 95%CI 0.176-0.963; P=0.0014) with cardiovascular risk factors were found in obese students. According to the ROC analysis GR>44.8 U/L, TAS>1.35 mmol/L, hsCRP>1.71 mg/L and HDL-cholesterol <1.13 mmol/L have sufficient predictive ability for cardiovascular disease in obese students.ConclusionsSignificant association of antioxidant defense parameters with anthropometric, lipid and inflammatory markers in obese students with increased cardiovascular risk suggest that screening of these parameters is necessary and highly recommended.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to analyse the presence of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and interferon alpha (IFN-α) in the follicular fluid (FF) and their possible influence, as pro-angiogenic or anti-angiogenic factors, on in vitro fertilization outcome. The concentrations of VEGF and IFN-α were correlated with oocyte and embryo quality, concentrations of hormones in the serum, perifollicular blood flow and endometrial thickness. VEGF was detected in all FF samples (median 706.6?pg/ml, range 182.9–6638?pg/ml). IFN-α was detected in 60% of the samples (median 6.5?pg/ml, range 0–79.4?pg/ml), while in 40% of the samples its levels were below the test detection limit. VEGF and IFN-α concentrations did not correlate with the cause of infertility, concentrations of FSH, LH, E2 and prolactin, oocyte or embryo quality. Significantly higher concentrations of VEGF have been found in women with primary compared with secondary infertility (p?=?0.011, Mann Whitney test). The concentrations of VEGF and IFN-α did not correlate with the resistance index (RI) on days of hCG administration, follicular aspiration and embryo transfer. However, the concentrations of IFN-α correlated with endometrial thickness on the day of embryo transfer (Spearman correlation coefficient ρ?=?0.4107; P?<?0.05) but not on days of hCG administration and follicular aspiration. The mechanism of VEGF association with the previous ability of having a child needs to be clarified in future studies. The results of this study indicate a possible role of IFN-α in pathways of endometrial remodelling.  相似文献

AimRadiation therapy (RT) is a standard therapeutic option for prostate cancer (PC). In the last decades, several innovative technology applications have been introduced. 3-Dimensional conformal RT, volumetric/rotational intensity modulated RT associated or not with image-guided RT, are becoming largely diffused in the treatment of PC.BackgroundConsidering that PC could have a low α/β ratio, similar to late-reacting normal tissues, it could also be highly responsive to fraction size. Thus, the reduction of the number of fractions and the increase of the dose/fraction seem to be reasonable choices in the treatment of this cancer. This review reported the technology evolution, the radiobiological and the clinical data about the role of extreme hypofractionated RT in the treatment approach of PC patients.Materials and methodsMedline search and analysis of published studies containing key words: prostate cancer, radiotherapy, stereotactic radiotherapy.ResultsRecent technological developments, combined with an improved knowledge of the radiobiological models in favor of a high sensitivity of PC to larger fraction sizes are opening a new scenario in its treatment, reporting favorable efficacy and acceptable toxicity, despite short follow-up.ConclusionThus, thanks to technological improvement and the recent radiobiological data, “extreme hypofractionated RT” has been strongly introduced in the last years as a potential solid treatment option for PC.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Capsule: The distribution range of the European Roller Coracias garrulus has undergone large changes over geological times, but although the species is warm-adapted, the human induced climate change is predicted to affect negatively the range of the currently large populations.

Aim: Information on species-specific vulnerability to climate change is crucial not only for designing interventions and setting conservation goals, but also to inform conservation decision-making. Our goal was to map climate suitability for the European Roller in the Western Palaearctic under current climate, and for past (last glacial maximum and mid-Holocene) and future (2050 and 2070) climate scenarios.

Methods: We used MaxEnt for species distribution modelling based on the reconstructed distribution map of the species.

Results: Our results suggest that during glacial periods Rollers persisted in small southern refugia, and then spread and colonized northern latitudes during the mid-Holocene. In the future, our models forecast a shift in climatically suitable range towards northern latitudes and an overall small range contraction (4.5–5.5%). Warmer temperatures will increase climate suitability in northern countries where the species is currently declining or became locally extinct. On the other hand, wide suitable areas under current climatic conditions are predicted to become unsuitable in the future (35–38% by 2050 and 2070, respectively), significantly impacting large populations such as those in Romania, Spain, Bulgaria and Hungary. French and Italian populations are identified to be future key populations for Roller conservation.

Conclusions: Our findings suggest that future climate changes will likely amplify the impacts of existing threats on the majority of large European Roller populations in Europe.  相似文献

A highly sensitive radioimmunoassay for the measurement of plasma prostaglandins A and B, expressed in equivalents of PGA1, is described. This method was used for the measurement of prostaglandins A and B (PGA/B) in 23 healthy volunteers and 25 hypertensive patients.The PGA/B concentration in peripheral venous plasma of 23 healthy normotensive subjects is 115 ± 15 pg/ml. The repeated measurement of the same plasma samples kept frozen for 60 days at ?20°C shows mean 194% increase of PGA/B concentration.The major site of synthesis of PGA/B seems to be the kidney. However in two patients PGA/B concentration in arterial blood was greater than in venous blood suggesting the possibility of cardio-pulmonary synthesis. The major site of inactivation is the hepatic circulation, as PGA/B concentration in hepatal venous blood is by 30% lower than in vena caval blood.The arterial concentration is 3% lower than venous PGA/B demonstrating very low pulmonary inactivation. Therefore the prostaglandins of the A and B series may represent a “circulating hormone”.The plasmatic PGA/B is significantly increased in renovascular and essential hypertension.  相似文献
