We report here on calculations at the hybrid DFT/HF (B3-LYP/6-31G(d, p)) level of the O-H bond dissociation enthalpy (O-H BDE) of phenylpropenoic acids (caffeic, ferulic, p-coumaric and cinnamic) and phenolic acids and related compounds (gallic, methylgallate, vanillic and gentisic) in order to gain insight into the understanding of structure-antioxidant activity relationships. The results were correlated and discussed mainly on the basis of experimental data in a companion work (Galato D, Giacomelli C, Ckless K, Susin MF, Vale RMR, Spinelli A. Antioxidant capacity of phenolic and related compounds: correlation among electrochemical, visible spectroscopy methods and structure-antioxidant activity. Redox Report 2001; 6: 243-250). The O-H BDE values showed remarkable dependence on the hydroxyl position in the benzene ring and the existence of additional interaction due to hydrogen bonding. For parent molecules, the experimental antioxidant activity (AA) order was properly obeyed only when intramolecular hydrogen bonding was present in the radicalized structures of o-dihydroxyl moieties. In structurally related compounds, excellent correlation with experimental data was in general observed (0.64 < rho < 0.99). However, it is shown that excellent correlation can also be obtained for this series of compounds considering p-radicalized structures which were not stabilized by intramolecular hydrogen bonding, but this had no physical meaning. These findings suggested that the antioxidant activity evaluation of phenolic and related compounds must take into consideration the characteristics of each particular compound. 相似文献

The dourado, Salminus maxillosus, is an active and migratory teleost found in lotic waters of Southern Brazil. We have studied the relationships of gas transport in dourado to the specific ecophysiology of this-species. Measurements were performed of blood gases, O2 uptake, gill ventilation and perfusion at normoxia and various levels of hypoxia. Thus, the study aimed at a detailed assessment of the causes of O2 transport failure, using recent models for gas transport in vertebrates. Oxygen uptake was maintained down to a critical water partial O2 pressure of 42 mmHg, below which it markedly decreased. This could be explained based on ventilatory and cardiovascular responses: Ventilation increased sufficiently to match decreases of water O2 partial pressure during moderate hypoxia (partial pressure of O2 > 42 mmHg) but failed to meet O2 demands below this value. Likewise, the cardiovascular responses were insufficient to maintain an adequate transport below moderatelevels of hypoxia. Thus, combined failure of ventilation and blood gas transport account for the abrupt decreases of O2 transport. The species proved highly vulnerable to hypoxia, which is consistent with the normally well-aerated habitat and the active mode of life of the species. 相似文献

Lactate (LDH) and malate dehydrogenase (MDH) of white skeletal muscle of fishes acclimated to 20, 25 and 30 degrees C and thereafter submitted to hypoxia were studied in different substrate concentrations. Significant differences for LDH and MDH of white muscle enzyme activities are described here for the first time in Rhinelepis strigosa of fishes acclimated to 20 degrees C and submitted to hypoxia for six hours. LDH presented a significant decrease in enzyme affinity for pyruvate in acute hypoxia, for fishes acclimated to 20 degrees C and an increase for fishes acclimated to 30 degrees C. 相似文献

Cutaneous neoplasia is common in non‐human primates. We describe the gross and microscopic features of multicentric cutaneous keratoacanthomas in a free‐living marmoset (Callithrix sp.). Immunohistochemistry for human papillomavirus and herpes simplex virus type I and simplex virus type II was negative. Keratoacanthomas should be included in the differential diagnosis for cutaneous masses in non‐human primates. 相似文献

Environmental enrichment (EE) is an experimental strategy to attenuate the negative effects of different neurological conditions including neonatal hypoxia ischemia encephalopathy (HIE). The aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of prenatal and early postnatal EE in animals submitted to neonatal HIE model at postnatal day (PND) 3. Wistar rats were housed in EE or standard conditions (SC) during pregnancy and lactation periods. Pups of both sexes were assigned to one of four experimental groups, considering the early environmental conditions and the injury: SC-Sham, SC-HIE, EE-sham, and EE-HIE. The offspring were euthanized at two different time points: 48 h after HIE for biochemical analyses or at PND 67 for histological analyses. Behavioral tests were performed at PND 7, 14, 21, and 60. Offspring from EE mothers had better performance in neurodevelopmental and spatial memory tests when compared to the SC groups. HIE animals showed a reduction of IGF-1 and VEGF in the parietal cortex, but no differences in BDNF and TrkB levels were found. EE-HIE animals showed reduction in cell death, lower astrocyte reactivity, and an increase in AKTp levels in the hippocampus and parietal cortex. In addition, the EE was also able to prevent the hippocampus tissue loss. Altogether, present findings point to the protective potential of the prenatal and early postnatal EE in attenuating molecular and histological damage, as well as the neurodevelopmental impairments and the cognitive deficit, caused by HIE insult at PND 3. 相似文献

Glaciated alpine floodplains are responding quickly to climate change through shrinking ice masses. Given the expected future changes in their physicochemical environment, we anticipated variable shifts in structure and ecosystem functioning of hyporheic microbial communities in proglacial alpine streams, depending on present community characteristics and landscape structures. We examined microbial structure and functioning during different hydrologic periods in glacial (kryal) streams and, as contrasting systems, groundwater-fed (krenal) streams. Three catchments were chosen to cover an array of landscape features, including interconnected lakes, differences in local geology and degree of deglaciation. Community structure was assessed by automated ribosomal intergenic spacer analysis and microbial function by potential enzyme activities. We found each catchment to contain a distinct bacterial community structure and different degrees of separation in structure and functioning that were linked to the physicochemical properties of the waters within each catchment. Bacterial communities showed high functional plasticity, although achieved by different strategies in each system. Typical kryal communities showed a strong linkage of structure and function that indicated a major prevalence of specialists, whereas krenal sediments were dominated by generalists. With the rapid retreat of glaciers and therefore altered ecohydrological characteristics, lotic microbial structure and functioning are likely to change substantially in proglacial floodplains in the future. The trajectory of these changes will vary depending on contemporary bacterial community characteristics and landscape structures that ultimately determine the sustainability of ecosystem functioning. 相似文献

Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) analysis has proved to be useful for forensic identification, especially in cases which nuclear DNA markers fail, as in degraded samples or in cases where the biological material has few traces or no nuclear DNA. Moreover, it can be applied in population genetics, inferring the origin of a population. In this work, the entire mtDNA control region of 97 individuals from the state of Espirito Santo, Brazil, was analyzed. We have found 94 different haplotypes yielding a high haplotype diversity of 0.9994 ± 0.0016. The probability of a random match calculated was 1.09. Haplogroup distribution analysis confirmed a highly admixed Latin American population: African lineages (43.3 %), European lineages (32.0 %), Native American lineages (23.7 %) and Asian lineages (1.0 %). We have concluded that this type of tool can be used both in forensic genetics to the study of different human populations, such as highly admixed populations, and in the study of migration’s history and colonization of different states and countries of the world. 相似文献
