Summary Investigations were performed by light and electron microscope on the basilar membrane, limbus spiralis and spiral ligament.These different parts continue one into the other and make up a single morphological and functional structure which may be called the supporting structure of Corti's organ (s.s.C.o.).It is formed by a tissue the components of which are the cells and an intercellular substance in which are arranged the capillary vessels.The cells can be classed in two groups, the first consisting of the cells proper (basilar membrane, limbus spiralis and spiral ligament cells) which present structural changes parallel with the growth mechanism of the intercellular substance; the second of the cochlear duct covering cells (Corti's organ cells, inner and outer spiral sulcus cells, interdental cells, stria vascularis cells).The intercellular substance is organised in laminae, fibrolaminae, bundles and microscopic fibers composed of filaments with an intervening ground substance.The filaments have a diameter ranging from 85 to 105 Å. Topochemical tests with polarised light microscope, enzymatic tests, diffractographic and chemical analyses suggest that these filaments unquestionably consist of protein material which have nothing to do with collagen or elastic fibers. Perhaps it may be classed in the K.E.M.F. group.The ground substance generally appear anhistous and transparent but in some parts of the basilar membrane it presents a cottony appearance.The possible different hypotheses about the classification of the s.s.C.o. tissue are discussed.The quantity and architecture of the cells and the intercellular substance vary appreciably in the basilar membrane, limbus spiralis and spiral ligament, which are examined in detail one by one.The demonstration that the s.s.C.o. is formed of a tissue possessing an intercellular substance containing filamentous scleroproteins clearly corroborates the theory that is performs supporting activity in respect of Corti's organ. The bifurcations of a periodically forced predator-prey model (the chemostat model), with a prey feeding on a limiting nutrient, are numerically detected with a continuation technique. Eight bifurcation diagrams are produced (one for each parameter in the model) and shown to be topologically equivalent. These diagrams are also equivalent to those of the most commonly used predator-prey model (the Rosenzweig-McArthur model). Thus, all basic modes of behavior of the two main predator-prey models can be explained by means of a single bifurcation diagram.  相似文献

Summary Fermentation tests in clearly defined laboratory conditions were carried out with eight functionally selected strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Analysis of the data showed that there were no significant differences in malic acid production between the strains when the acid was initially present. When it was initially absent, however, significant differences were observed two strains (Nos. 1141 and 1083) showing marked productive superiority. With malic acid as the sole C source, two strains (Nos. 1109 and 1141) showed less acid consumption.  相似文献

GABA added to rat brain mitochondria causes oxidation of intramitochondrial NAD(P)H as well as inducing glutamate efflux from the mitochondrial matrix. The rate of NAD(P)H oxidation shows saturation characteristics, depends on GABA transport across the mitochondrial membrane and is inhibited by non-penetrant compounds and by the metal-complexing agent bathophenanthroline. These results show the existence of a specific GABA carrier. Inhibition studies strongly suggest the existence of two separate binding sites, namely the GABA binding site and the dicarboxylates binding site, as well as suggest the presence of a metal ion (ions) at GABA binding site. The occurrence of a GABA/GLUTAMATE antiport is proposed which allows a cyclical route to account for GABA synthesis and degradation in brain.  相似文献

In this paper details are reported for the synthesis of S-(3-Aminopropyl)-thiosulfuric acid from 3-Bromopropylamine or thiosulfate. Summary A Sardinian pedigree described in 1964 for having been found to segregate at the X-linked loci for the Xga antigen, G6PD deficiency, Protan and Deutan color blindness, with an instance of recombination between the last two loci, was re-examined with respect to four common X-linked DNA polymorphisms detected by molecular probes homologous to critical subregions of the human X chromosome. Two branches of this pedigree-including the one with the Protan-Deutan recombinant-were found to segregate also for the common BamHI polymorphism identified with the cDNA probe pHPT-2 of the HPRT gene (Xq26). The analysis of the chromosome haplotypes in the male offspring of the phase known penta-heterozygous mother suggests that the probable order of the relevant loci is HPRT, Deutan, G6PD, Protan, Xq telomere. Though we are fully aware of the risks of generalizing the significance of observations made on a single exceptional pedigree, we believe that this report outlines the potential of families of the type described as reasearch tools to resolve the linear order of tightly X-linked loci and to investigate the biology of genetic recombination in humans.  相似文献

A spontaneous mutant of Escherichia coli (strain AB2847), selected for resistance to the aminoglycoside antibiotic neamine, shows severe restriction of amber suppressors in vivo. Ribosomes isolated from the mutant exhibit only low misreading in vitro in the presence of the antibiotic. Genetic and biochemical analyses indicate that the neamine-resistant phenotype is the result of two distinct mutations. The first, res3128, appears to affect the gene (strA) coding for the ribosomal protein S12. Although it leads to a restrictive phenotype it does not, however, confer resistance to streptomycin. The second mutation, X3128, is located between the sirA and AROB loci and is lethal when segregated from the res3128 mutation. It may affect the ribosome at the level of a post-translational modification.  相似文献

The distribution of four X-linked mutants (G6PD, Deutan, Protan and Xg) among lowland and once highly malarial populations of Sardinia discloses a clear-cut example of linkage disequiligrium between two of them (G6PD and Protan). In the same populations the distribution of G6PD-deficiency versus colorblindness of the Deutan type and the Xg blood-group is not significantly different from that expected at equilibrium. These data suggest indirectly that the loci for G6PD and Protan may be nearer to one another than those for G6PD and Deutan.  相似文献
