Noise has always been an important environmental factor that induces health problems in the general population. Due to ever increasing noise pollution, humans are facing multiple auditory and non-auditory problems including neuropsychiatric disorders. In modern day life it is impossible to avoid noise due to the rapid industrialization of society. Continuous exposure to noise stress creates a disturbance in brain function which may lead to memory disorder. Therefore, it is necessary to find preventive measures to reduce the deleterious effects of noise exposure. Supplementation of taurine, a semi essential amino acid, is reported to alleviate psychiatric disorders. In this study noise-exposed (100 db; 3 h daily for 15 days) rats were supplemented with taurine at a dose of 100 mg/kg for 15 days. Spatial and recognition memory was assessed using the Morris water maze and novel object recognition task, respectively. Results of this study showed a reversal of noise-induced memory impairment in rats. The derangements of catecholaminergic and serotonergic levels in the hippocampus and altered brain antioxidant enzyme activity due to noise exposure were also restored by taurine administration. This study highlights the importance of taurine supplementation to mitigate noise-induced impaired memory via normalizing the neurochemical functions and reducing oxidative stress in rat brain.
Bis-Schiff bases 1–27 have been synthesized and their in vitro antiglycation potential has been evaluated. Compounds 21 (IC50 = 243.95 ± 4.59 μM), 20 (IC50 = 257.61 ± 5.63 μM), and 7 (IC50 = 291.14 ± 2.53 μM) showed an excellent antiglycation activity better than the standard (rutin, IC50 = 294.46 ± 1.50 μM). This study has identified a series of potential molecules as antiglycation agents. A structure–activity relationship has been studied, and all the compounds were characterized by spectroscopic techniques. 相似文献
We analyzed the phylogenetic composition of bacterioplankton assemblages in 11 Arctic Ocean samples collected over three seasons (winter-spring 1995, summer 1996, and summer-fall 1997) by sequencing cloned fragments of 16S rRNA genes. The sequencing effort was directed by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) screening of samples and the clone libraries. Sequences of 88 clones fell into seven major lineages of the domain Bacteria: α (36%)-, γ (32%)-, δ (14%)-, and (1%)-Proteobacteria; Cytophaga-Flexibacter-Bacteroides spp. (9%); Verrucomicrobium spp. (6%); and green nonsulfur bacteria (2%). A total of 34% of the cloned sequences (excluding clones in the SAR11 and Roseobacter groups) had sequence similarities that were <94% compared to previously reported sequences, indicating the presence of novel sequences. DGGE fingerprints of the selected samples showed that most of the bands were common to all samples in all three seasons. However, additional bands representing sequences related to Cytophaga and Polaribacter species were found in samples collected during the summer and fall. Of the clones in a library generated from one sample collected in spring of 1995, 50% were the same and were most closely affiliated (99% similarity) with Alteromonas macleodii, while 50% of the clones in another sample were most closely affiliated (90 to 96% similarity) with Oceanospirillum sp. The majority of the cloned sequences were most closely related to uncultured, environmental sequences. Prominent among these were members of the SAR11 group. Differences between mixed-layer and halocline samples were apparent in DGGE fingerprints and clone libraries. Sequences related to α-Proteobacteria (dominated by SAR11) were abundant (52%) in samples from the mixed layer, while sequences related to γ-proteobacteria were more abundant (44%) in halocline samples. Two bands corresponding to sequences related to SAR307 (common in deep water) and the high-G+C gram-positive bacteria were characteristic of the halocline samples. 相似文献
In seven families, six different mutant alleles of TRIOBP on chromosome 22q13 cosegregate with autosomal recessive nonsyndromic deafness. These alleles include four nonsense (Q297X, R788X, R1068X, and R1117X) and two frameshift (D1069fsX1082 and R1078fsX1083) mutations, all located in exon 6 of TRIOBP. There are several alternative splice isoforms of this gene, the longest of which, TRIOBP-6, comprises 23 exons. The linkage interval for the deafness segregating in these families includes DFNB28. Genetic heterogeneity at this locus is suggested by three additional families that show significant evidence of linkage of deafness to markers on chromosome 22q13 but that apparently have no mutations in the TRIOBP gene. 相似文献
The degradation kinetics of 5 × 10−5 M cyanocobalamin (B12) and hydroxocobalamin (B12b) in the presence of ascorbic acid (AH2) was studied in the pH range of 1.0–8.0. B12 is degraded to B12b which undergoes oxidation to corrin ring cleavage products. B12b alone is directly oxidized to the ring cleavage products. B12 and B12b in degraded solutions were simultaneously assayed by a two-component spectrometric method at 525 and 550 nm without interference from AH2. Both degrade by first-order kinetics and the values of the rate constants at pH 1.0–8.0 range from 0.08 to 1.05 × 10−5 s−1 and 0.22–7.62 × 10−5 s−1, respectively, in the presence of 0.25 × 10−3 M AH2. The t1/2 values of B12 and B12b range from 13.7 to 137.5 h and 2.5–87.5 h, respectively. The second-order rate constants for the interaction of AH2 with B12 and B12b are 0.05–0.28 × 10−2 and 1.10–30.08 × 10−2 M−1 s−1, respectively, indicating a greater effect of AH2 on B12b compared to that of B12. The kobs–pH profiles for both B12 and B12b show the highest rates of degradation around pH 5. The degradation of B12 and B12b by AH2 is affected by the catalytic effect of phosphate ions on the oxidation of AH2 in the pH range 6.0–8.0.KEY WORDS: ascorbic acid, cyanocobalamin, degradation, hydroxocobalamin, kinetics, two-component spectrometry相似文献
Drug discovery in skin pharmacotherapy is an enormous, continually expanding field. Researchers are developing novel and sensitive
pharmaceutical products and drugs that target specific receptors to elicit concerted and appropriate responses. The pigment-bearing
cells called melanophores have a significant contribution to make in this field. Melanophores, which contain the dark brown
or black pigment melanin, constitute an important class of chromatophores. They are highly specialized in the bidirectional
and coordinated translocation of pigment granules when given an appropriate stimulus. The pigment granules can be stimulated
to undergo rapid dispersion throughout the melanophores, making the cell appear dark, or to aggregate at the center, making
the cell appear light. The major signals involved in pigment transport within the melanophores are dependent on a special
class of cell surface receptors called G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). Many of these receptors of adrenaline, acetylcholine,
histamine, serotonin, endothelin and melatonin have been found on melanophores. They are believed to have clinical relevance
to skin-related ailments and therefore have become targets for high throughput screening projects. The selective screening
of these receptors requires the recognition of particular ligands, agonists and antagonists and the characterization of their
effects on pigment motility within the cells. The mechanism of skin pigmentation is incredibly intricate, but it would be
a considerable step forward to unravel its underlying physiological mechanism. This would provide an experimental basis for
new pharmacotherapies for dermatological anomalies. The discernible stimuli that can trigger a variety of intracellular signals
affecting pigment granule movement primarily include neurotransmitters and hormones. This review focuses on the role of the
hormone and neurotransmitter signals involved in pigment movement in terms of the pharmacology of the specific receptors. 相似文献
Human apolipoprotein D (ApoD) occurs in plasma associated with high density lipoprotein. Apart from the involvement in lipid metabolism, its binding activity for progesterone and arachidonic acid plays a role in cancer development and neurological diseases. The crystal structures of free ApoD and its complex with progesterone were determined at 1.8A resolution and reveal a lipocalin fold. The narrow, mainly uncharged pocket within the typical beta-barrel accommodates progesterone with its acetyl side chain oriented toward the bottom. The cavity adopts essentially the same shape in the absence of progesterone and allows complexation of arachidonic acid as another cognate ligand. Three of the four extended loops at the open end of the beta-barrel expose hydrophobic side chains, which is an unusual feature for lipocalins and probably effects association with the high density lipoprotein particle by mediating insertion into the lipid phase. This mechanism is in line with an unpaired Cys residue in the same surface region that can form a disulfide cross-link with apolipoprotein A-II. 相似文献
