Notochordal and elastic components of the axial skeleton of fishes and their functions in locomotion 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Structural details of the notochord and elastic longitudinal ligaments (dorsal and ventral) of fish are presented with discussions on their possible contribution to the speed, power and modes of swimming by conferring an automatic spring-like resilience to the vertebral axis as a whole. The notochord is also believed to function as a series of ring-like hinges placed intervertebrally which dictates that the centra must be biconcave (amphicoelous) to support and house them. Examination of about 100 species shows that, whilst the dorsal ligament is always present, the ventral is found in primitive teleosts only. The phylogenetic significance of this in relation to the different efferent branchial systems will be submitted (with diagrammatic recording of dissections) for publication in the near future. The dorsal and ventral ligaments are suitably situated to assist the circulation of lymph and blood respectively in the small lateral vessels associated with the main longitudinal one of the appropriate system. The reproductive biology of the Glossiphoniidae leech Helobdella stagnalis, under laboratory conditions, the structure of its eggs and its developmental stages were studied. Sperm transfer and insemination are made by hypodermic injection: one or numerous spermatophores were attached to the skin of the partner during copulation and sperm is injected through it. The leeches can copulate repeatedly with several partners. Each leech produces 4–8 cocoons containing 20–60 eggs whose are attached to the ventral side of the parent and carried around. At 22 °C, the developmental duration is 24 days from the oviposition until the juveniles leave the parent leech. Three (3) major stages have been distinguished: Eggs cleavage, germinal band generation, and juveniles hatching. A study was carried out on freshwater planarians of the genus Dugesia from three localities in northern Tunisia: Joumine, Chiba, and Lebna. The three populations are fissiparous under field conditions and do not possess reproductive organs, except for some cases of hyperplastic ovaries in the Joumine population. After five months of breeding under laboratory conditions, with water temparature between 18 and 25?°C and under short photoperiod, 8.33 to 26% of specimens from the Joumine stream became sexualized, together with considerable increase of body length and width. For the other two populations the sexualization rate was very small. Extended period of darkness apparently played a positive role in this sexualization. The phenomenon of sexualization is discussed in the context of reproductive strategies. Histological and karyological studies of the sexualized animals allowed identification of these usually fissiparous planarians as representatives of Dugesia sicula Lepori, 1948. The species is here reported for the first time from Tunisia. The populations are restricted to permanent water basins resulting from the construction of dams in large rivers. 相似文献

Maastrichtian-early Paleocene foraminiferal palaeobathymetry, palaeodiversity and vertical facies changes of Gebel El Sharawna, south Luxor, Egypt have been studied to determine the depositional sequences, their relationships to global records and/or tectonic signatures. Five benthonic assemblages are recorded and replicated in the present study reflect fluctuation in palaeo-water depth from restricted marginal marine to outer shelf palaeoenvironments. Four sequence boundaries that coincide with the Campanian/Maastrichtian, intra-early Maastrichtian, Early/Late Maastrichtian, Cretaceous/Palaeogene (K/Pg) and intra-Danian were recognized based upon sharp vertical facies changes, foraminiferal assemblage changes, hiatuses, mineral hard ground and reworking. The K/Pg unconformity reveals an unexpected ca. 4.2 Myr time gap as indicated by the absence of the CF2 Zone through lower part of the P1c Zone. It is easily distinguished in the field by conglomeration and winnowing of phosphate and glauconite in the lower Paleocene. These sequence boundaries defined five third-order depositional sequences mainly developed as the result of the eustatic sea-level changes, coupled with the Arabian–Nubian shield tectonic uplift at the southern edge of the Tethys Ocean. 相似文献
