In this paper, a plasma based metamaterial (MM) polarizer is optimized for linear to circular polarization conversion in Ku-band wireless applications. The plasma MM polarizer is design based on the transmission mode. The proposed plasma MM polarizer unit-cell element consists of back-to-back plasma arcs placed on the top and the bottom faces of a dielectric substrate. Polarization Conversion from linear polarized (LP) wave to circular polarized (CP) wave requires that the incident wave is splitted into two orthogonal components with equal magnitudes and π/2 phase difference. The polarization characteristics of the plasma MM polarizer have bandwidth of 17.5% centered around 13.7 GHz. A linearly polarized dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is designed with impedance bandwidth of 27.05%. The LP-DRA loaded with plasma MM polarizer radiates CP-waves with improved gain of 8.89 dBi. Reconfigurable CP radiation right-hand, left-hand, or linear polarization is achieved when the argon gas in the lower, upper, or both arc-shaped containers is ionized to plasma state. The proposed plasma MM polarizer and the DRA structures are examined utilizing a full-wave simulator.

Unlike southern Spain, northern Morocco has been little investigated for palaeoecological purposes. Consequently, the origin and history of the Rifan vegetation is largely unknown, as well as the past role of human activities. A review of the Plio-Pleistocene fossil data available from North Africa clearly reveals the ancient origin of much of the present-day flora and vegetation structures of the region. A well-dated pollen record covering the last 5,000 years, obtained from a fen, is compared to previous regional pollen data in order to understand the late-Holocene vegetation dynamics and the influence of anthropogenic disturbances. Modern pollen spectra have allowed the calibration of pollen diversity and evenness as indicators of tree-cover density. The results obtained show the long-term persistence of regional forests until the onset of Arab Sharifian dynasties in the 16th century, with a surprising lack of human impact during the late Neolithic, and little impact during Roman colonisation. The increasing density of deciduous forests recorded from 3,800 to 1,900 cal bp, concomitant with the expansion of cedar in the Middle Atlas, could reveal the onset of widespread cooler and moister climatic conditions. The weak and late human impact in the Rifan mountains explains, at least in part, their high diversity and the conservation of their forest ecosystems. Anthropogenic activities however have led to severe modification of the understorey structure of these forests during the four last centuries, and to the worrying on-going deforestation that presently threatens the survival of this invaluable biological heritage.  相似文献

Background and Methods

Pulmonary deposited carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are cleared very slowly from the lung, but there is limited information on how CNTs interact with the lung tissue over time. To address this, three different multiwalled CNTs were intratracheally instilled into female C57BL/6 mice: one short (850 nm) and tangled, and two longer (4 μm and 5.7 μm) and thicker. We assessed the cellular interaction with these CNTs using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) 1, 3 and 28 days after instillation.

Results

TEM analysis revealed that the three CNTs followed the same overall progression pattern over time. Initially, CNTs were taken up either by a diffusion mechanism or via endocytosis. Then CNTs were agglomerated in vesicles in macrophages. Lastly, at 28 days post-exposure, evidence suggesting CNT escape from vesicle enclosures were found. The longer and thicker CNTs more often perturbed and escaped vesicular enclosures in macrophages compared to the smaller CNTs. Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) showed that the CNT exposure induced both an eosinophil influx and also eosinophilic crystalline pneumonia.

Conclusion

Two very different types of multiwalled CNTs had very similar pattern of cellular interactions in lung tissue, with the longer and thicker CNTs resulting in more severe effects in terms of eosinophil influx and incidence of eosinophilic crystalline pneumonia (ECP).  相似文献

The compiled data for this study represents the first Atlantic and Mediterranean-wide effort to pool all available biometric data for Atlantic bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) with the collaboration of many countries and scientific groups. Biometric relationships were based on an extensive sampling (over 140,000 fish sampled), covering most of the fishing areas for this species in the North Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. Sensitivity analyses were carried out to evaluate the representativeness of sampling and explore the most adequate procedure to fit the weight-length relationship (WLR). The selected model for the WLRs by stock included standardized data series (common measurement types) weighted by the inverse variability. There was little difference between annual stock-specific round weight-straight fork length relationships, with an overall difference of 6% in weight. The predicted weight by month was estimated as an additional component in the exponent of the weight-length function. The analyses of monthly variations of fish condition by stock, maturity state and geographic area reflect annual cycles of spawning and feeding behavior. We update and improve upon the biometric relationships for bluefin currently used by the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas, by incorporating substantially larger datasets than ever previously compiled, providing complete documentation of sources and employing robust statistical fitting. WLRs and other conversion factors estimated in this study differ from the ones used in previous bluefin stock assessments.  相似文献

Iron is an important nutrient in N2-fixing legume nodules. The demand for this micronutrient increases during the symbiosis establishment, where the metal is utilized for the synthesis of various iron-containing proteins in both the plant and the bacteroid. Unfortunately, in spite of its importance, iron is poorly available to plant uptake since its solubility is very low when in its oxidized form Fe(III). In the present study, the effect of iron deficiency on the activity of some proteins involved in Strategy I response, such as Fe-chelate reductase (FC-R), H+-ATPase, and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) and the protein level of iron regulated transporter (IRT1) and H+-ATPase proteins has been investigated in both roots and nodules of a tolerant (Flamingo) and a susceptible (Coco blanc) cultivar of common bean plants. The main results of this study show that the symbiotic tolerance of Flamingo can be ascribed to a greater increase in the FC-R and H+-ATPase activities in both roots and nodules, leading to a more efficient Fe supply to nodulating tissues. The strong increase in PEPC activity and organic acid content, in the Flamingo root nodules, suggests that under iron deficiency nodules can modify their metabolism in order to sustain those activities necessary to acquire Fe directly from the soil solution.  相似文献

This study evaluated three different textile materials (Acrylate, Polyester, and Nylon) as filter media for MBR treating municipal wastewater. Chemical oxygen demand (COD) loading rates were 1.71, 1.65 and 1.84 g/l d while feed/microorganisms (F/M) ratios were 0.32, 0.31 and 0.33 in Reactor 1, Reactor 2 and Reactor 3, respectively. The actual hydraulic retention times were 8.6, 8.9 and 8.0 h in R1, R2 and R3. At 5.3-5.5 g/l mixed liquor suspended (MLSS) and 26.3 days solid retention time (SRT) the membrane bioreactors were effective in removing 93-95% of COD, 99% of total suspended solids (TSS) and turbidity, 89-94% of total kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN) and 90-96% of total ammonia nitrogen. Phosphorous removal was limited to 51-55% while faecal coliform was reduced by four logs. Quality of the treated effluents met both Saudi and Egyptian reuse standards for restricted irrigation and could be easily disinfected to meet the unrestricted irrigation standards.  相似文献

In 1962 H. Fujita (H. Fujita, Mathematical Theory of Sedimentation Analysis, Academic Press, New York, 1962) examined the possibility of transforming a quasi-continuous distribution g(s) of sedimentation coefficient s into a distribution f(M) of molecular weight M for linear polymers using the relation f(M)=g(s)·(ds/dM) and showed that this could be done if information about the relation between s and M is available from other sources. Fujita provided the transformation based on the scaling relation s=κ(s)M(0.5), where κ(s) is taken as a constant for that particular polymer and the exponent 0.5 essentially corresponds to a randomly coiled polymer under ideal conditions. This method has been successfully applied to mucus glycoproteins (S.E. Harding, Adv. Carbohyd. Chem. Biochem. 47 (1989) 345-381). We now describe an extension of the method to general conformation types via the scaling relation s=κM(b), where b=0.4-0.5 for a coil, ~0.15-0.2 for a rod and ~0.67 for a sphere. We give examples of distributions f(M) versus M obtained for polysaccharides from SEDFIT derived least squares g(s) versus s profiles (P. Schuck, Biophys. J. 78 (2000) 1606-1619) and the analytical derivative for ds/dM performed with Microcal ORIGIN. We also describe a more direct route from a direct numerical solution of the integral equation describing the molecular weight distribution problem. Both routes give identical distributions although the latter offers the advantage of being incorporated completely within SEDFIT. The method currently assumes that solutions behave ideally: sedimentation velocity has the major advantage over sedimentation equilibrium in that concentrations less than 0.2mg/ml can be employed, and for many systems non-ideality effects can be reasonably ignored. For large, non-globular polymer systems, diffusive contributions are also likely to be small.  相似文献

Introduction

This study examines the expression of IL-17A-secreting cells within the inflamed synovium and the relationship to in vivo joint hypoxia measurements.

Methods

IL-17A expression was quantified in synovial tissue (ST), serum and synovial fluid (SF) by immunohistochemistry and MSD-plex assays. IL-6 SF and serum levels were measured by MSD-plex assays. Dual immunofluorescence for IL-17A was quantified in ST CD15+ cells (neutrophils), Tryptase+ (mast cells) and CD4+ (T cells). Synovial tissue oxygen (tpO2) levels were measured under direct visualisation at arthroscopy. Synovial infiltration was assessed using immunohistochemistry for cell specific markers. Peripheral blood mononuclear and polymorphonuclear cells were isolated and exposed to normoxic or 3% hypoxic conditions. IL-17A and IL-6 were quantified as above in culture supernatants.

Results

IL-17A expression was localised to mononuclear and polymorphonuclear (PMN) cells in inflamed ST. Dual immunoflourescent staining co-localised IL-17A expression with CD15+ neutrophils Tryptase+ mast cells and CD4+T cells. % IL-17A positivity was highest on CD15+ neutrophils, followed by mast cells and then CD4+T-cells. The number of IL-17A-secreting PMN cells significantly correlated with sublining CD68 expression (r = 0.618, p<0.01). IL-17A SF levels correlated with IL-6 SF levels (r = 0.675, p<0.01). Patients categorized according to tp02< or >20mmHg, showed those with low tp02<20mmHg had significantly higher IL-17A+ mononuclear cells with no difference observed for PMNs. Exposure of mononuclear and polymorphonuclear cells to 3% hypoxia, significantly induced IL-6 in mononuclear cells, but had no effect on IL-17A expression in mononuclear and polymorphonuclear cells.

Conclusion

This study demonstrates IL-17A expression is localised to several immune cell subtypes within the inflamed synovial tissue, further supporting the concept that IL-17A is a key mediator in inflammatory arthritis. The association of hypoxia with Il-17A expression appears to be indirect, probably through hypoxia-induced pro-inflammatory pathways and leukocyte influx within the joint microenvironment.  相似文献

The interaction of methylamine with chloroplasts' photosystem II (PSII) was studied in isolated thylakoid membranes. Low concentration of methylamine (mM range) was shown to affect water oxidation and the advancement of the S-states. Modified kinetics of chlorophyll fluorescence rise and thermoluminescence in the presence of methylamine indicated that the electron transfer was affected at both sides of PSII, and in particular the electron transfer between YZ and P680+. As the concentration of methylamine was raised above 10 mM, the extrinsic polypeptides associated with the oxygen-evolving complex were lost and energy transfer between PSII antenna complexes and reaction centers was impaired. It was concluded that methylamine is able to affect both extrinsic and intrinsic subunits of PSII even at the lowest concentrations used where the extrinsic polypeptides of the OEC are still associated with the luminal side of the photosystem. As methylamine concentration increases, the extrinsic polypeptides are lost and the interaction with intrinsic domains is amplified resulting in an increased F0.  相似文献
