Light-enhanced nitrate reductase (NR) activity was 8 times greaterthan the dark control. Exogenous application of sucrose, glucoseand fructose increased the induction of NR in the light as wellas in the dark, whereas glycolate had no effect. DCMU [3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1, 1-dimethyl urea] completely inhibited thedevelopment of NR in light. Sucrose, when added with DCMU, reversedthis inhibitory effect NR in vivo was more stable in light thanin darkness, the half-lives being 9.6 h and 6.4 h, respectively.The addition of sucrose did not change the half-life of NR ineither light or darkness. Ammonium, the end product of the inorganicnitrogen assimilatory pathway, stimulated the NR activity whereasamino acids decreased it. To obtain the maximal production of pollen embryoids in culturedanthers of Datura innoxia, the critical stage of anther developmentand the effect of physical factors, such as the precise modeof implantation of the anthers in the culture medium, light,temperature, and pH, were studied. In almost all media used,anthers containing uninucleate pollen were the best for initiationof embryogenesis. Variations in light and temperature also affecteddevelopment of the embryoids significantly. The percentage ofanthers producing pollen embryoids increased almost linearlywhen the temperature was raised from 22 to 30 °C. At lowertemperatures (15 to 20 °C) no embryoids were produced. Cultureskept in darkness produced embryoids, but upon transfer of culturesto the light the percentage of responding anthers increasedconsiderably.  相似文献

Human reproduction is considered as the most inefficient event as ~15–20% of human pregnancies end in miscarriage and in the product of miscarriages, chromosomal anomalies are a common occurrence. The aim of the present retrospective study was to assess the frequency of chromosomal aberrations in couples with recurrent miscarriages in the region of Punjab and to compare with worldwide frequencies. In this study, a total of 440 cases were referred between the period 1995–2015. After lymphocyte culturing, giemsa–trypsin banding was done for each case to assess the chromosomal anomalies. The frequency of chromosomal aberrations among couples was found to be 3.41% in our study. Among these aberrations, balanced reciprocal translocations formed the largest group with 60% anomalies. We would conclude that clinicians should understand the importance of chromosomal analysis in these couples and refer them for karyotyping after two miscarriages to rule out the possible genetic cause of recurrent miscarriages.  相似文献

In 5-day-old etiolated Sorghum seedlings, red light irradiationfor 1 s enhanced carotenoid and chlorophyll accumulation, and5 min of red light treatment saturated the photoresponse. Thedegree of red/far-red photoreversibility of carotenoid accumulationwas dependent on the age of the plant. No significant escapefrom far-red reversibility was observed up to 30 min after theonset of a saturating red light pulse in 5-day-old etiolatedseedlings.
