Intercontinental trade has led to multiple introductions of invasive pest species at a global scale. Molecular analyses of the structure of populations support the understanding of ecological strategies and evolutionary patterns that promote successful biological invasions. The oriental fruit moth, Grapholita (=Cydia) molesta, is a cosmopolitan and economically destructive pest of stone and pome fruits, expanding its distribution range concomitantly with global climate warming. We used ten newly developed polymorphic microsatellite markers to examine the genetic structure of G. molesta populations in an agricultural ecosystem in the Emilia‐Romagna region of northern Italy. Larvae collected in eight sampling sites were assigned to a mosaic of five populations with significant intra‐regional structure. Inferred measures of gene flow within populations implicated both active dispersal, and passive dispersal associated with accidental anthropogenic displacements. Small effective population sizes, coupled with high inbreeding levels, highlighted the effect of orchard management practices on the observed patterns of genetic variation within the sampling sites. Isolation by distance did not appear to play a major role at the spatial scale considered. Our results provide new insights into the population genetics and dynamics of an invasive pest species at a regional scale.  相似文献

Trifolium repens L. and Lolium perenne L. were grown in monocultures and bi-species mixture in a Free Air Carbon Dioxide Enrichment (FACE) experiment at elevated (60 Pa) and ambient (35 Pa) CO2 partial pressure (pCO2) for three years. The effects of defoliation frequencies (4 and 7 cuts in 1993; 4 and 8 cuts in 1994/95) and nitrogen fertilization (10 and 42 g m–2 y–1 N in 1993; 14 and 56 g m–2 y–1 N in 1994/95) on the growth response to pCO2 were investigated. There were significant interspecific differences in the CO2 responses during the first two years, while in the third growing season, these interspecific differences disappeared. Yield of T. repens in monocultures increased in the first two years by 20% when grown at elevated pCO2. This CO2 response was independent of defoliation frequency and nitrogen fertilization. In the third year, the CO2 response of T. repens declined to 11%. In contrast, yield of L. perenne monocultures increased by only 7% on average over three years at elevated pCO2. The yield response of L. perenne to CO2 changed according to defoliation frequency and nitrogen fertilization, mainly in the second and third year. The ratio of root/yield of L. perenne increased under elevated pCO2, low N fertilizer rate, and frequent defoliation, but it remained unchanged in T. repens. We suggest that the more abundant root growth of L. perenne was related to increased N limitation under elevated pCO2. The consequence of these interspecific differences in the CO2 response was a higher proportion of T. repens in the mixed swards at elevated pCO2. This was evident in all combinations of defoliation and nitrogen treatments. However, the proportion of the species was more strongly affected by N fertilization and defoliation frequency than by elevated pCO2. Based on these results, we conclude that the species proportion in managed grassland may change as the CO2 concentration increases. However, an adapted management could, at least partially, counteract such CO2 induced changes in the proportion of the species. Since the availability of mineral N in the soil may be important for the species’ responses to elevated pCO2, more long-term studies, particularly of processes in the soil, are required to predict the entire ecosystem response.  相似文献

ABSTRACT. [35S]methionine incorporation into proteins of either T. cruzi epimastigotes or trypomastigotes was drastically inhibited by low concentrations of crystal violet in a dose-dependent manner. This inhibition was not due to ATP depletion since cellular ATP levels did not change significantly after incubation of epimastigotes with 50 μM crystal violet for similar periods of time, and was unaffected by changes in the extracellular free calcium concentration. Although crystal violet was able to inhibit protein synthesis in a cell-free system from T. cruzi epimastigotes, half maximal inhibition was at 1 mM, a concentration three orders of magnitude higher than those that inhibited protein synthesis in intact cells. On the other hand, crystal violet was able to inhibit total [35S]methionine uptake at similar concentrations to those that inhibited protein synthesis while addition of increasing concentrations of cold methionine to the incubation medium protected the cells against crystal violet inhibition. Crystal violet also inhibited total [3H]proline uptake thus indicating that it has a general inhibitory effect upon the transport of amino acids, and not specifically upon methionine. These results indicate that inhibition of protein synthesis by crystal violet is probably due to inhibition of amino acid uptake.  相似文献

1. The daily proportion of fed individuals in a population of the reduviid bug Triatoma infestans (Klug), maintained under natural climatic conditions in experimental chicken houses in central Argentina, was estimated from the proportion of bugs retaining colourless urine in the rectum. 2. From the estimates of feeding frequency throughout a 1 year period, it was shown that temperature has a dominant effect on biting rate, but density-dependent effects became apparent during the warmest months. 3. These and other data on the determinants of blood consumption by T. infestans, were incorporated into a detailed hypothesis of density regulation in this species.  相似文献
