MULTIPLE PREFERENCE TESTS CAN PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION ON CONSUMER PREFERENCES*

Preference testing is used for a variety of reasons. Traditionally, a consumer completes one preference test. However, consumers may not be consistent in their preferences and, therefore, multiple preference tests would be necessary. This research investigated the preference responses of consumers during four preference tests on the same pair of products. Results showed that many of the consumers switched their preference through the series of four tests. Although the basic conclusion drawn from the first test or by any of the four tests was the same in this study, the overall percentages of consumers who preferred product “A” from the four tests were not always similar to one another, nor did the results of the first preference test show the degree of preference that existed for some products. Multiple preference tests may provide more information that is useful to researchers or marketers than a single preference test. Inconsistent responses should be included in data analysis to avoid distortion of preference patterns.     

Biosystematic studies of Kengyilia melanthera and K. kokonorica (Poaceae: Triticeae)

Kengyilia melanthera (Keng)J. L. Yang, Yen et Baum and K. kokonorica (Keng)J. L. Yang, Yen et Baum are two hexaploid perennial grasses of the tribe Triticeae native in west China. K. melanthera and K. kokonorica were hybridized with Roegneria kamoji Ohwi(2n=42,StStHHYY) and K. hirsuta (Keng)J. L. Yang, Yen et Baum (2n = 42, PPStStYY) respectively. Chromosome pairing behaviour at metaphase I in the parents and hybrids was studied. Meiotic configurations were 18.20 Ⅰ + 11.74 Ⅱ + 0.09 Ⅲ + 0.01V for R. kamoji×K. melanthera, 1.06Ⅰ + 20.47 Ⅱ for K. hirsuta×K. melanthera, 19.36Ⅰ + 11.26 Ⅱ + 0.04Ⅲ for R. kamoji×K. kokonorica, and2.46Ⅰ + 19.44Ⅱ + 0.14 Ⅲ + 0.06 Ⅳ for K. hirsuta×K. kokonorica. Considering chromosome pairing in the hybrids, as well as morphological characters, K. melanthera and K. kokonorica should be grouped in Kengyilia Yen et J. L. Yang instead of being keeped inRoegneria sect. Paragropyron Keng , or in Elymus L. or Elytrigia Desv.     

大熊猫犬瘟热病毒附着或血凝蛋白基因的序列分析

首次对犬瘟热病毒(CDV)大熊猫(GP)毒株附着或血凝蛋白(H)基因进行了序列测定并与疫苗株Onderstepoort进行了比较.我们设计合成了4对引物,对GP株进行了RT-PCR扩增与测序.H蛋白基因全长为1 946 bp,开放阅读框架(ORF)始于21-23位的ATG,终止于1 842-1 844位的TGA,编码607个氨基酸,该基因序列已被GenBank收录.将GP毒株与GenBank中疫苗弱毒株Onderstepoort进行比较,二者核苷酸序列的同源性为91.4%,推导的氨基酸序列的同源性为90.2%,GP和Onderstepoort株H蛋白的半胱氨酸残基数目均为12个且相对位置不变;疏水性有一定的变化,但推测的穿膜区位置(约35-55位氨基酸)是一致的;Onderstepoort株的H蛋白潜在的N-联糖基化位点为4个,GP株H蛋白为9个,糖基化位点的不同可能对GP株H蛋白的抗原性产生影响.     

谷子肌动蛋白基因的克隆及序列分析

以谷子（Setaria italica）为材料,提取总RNA。根据植物肌动蛋白基因编码区的两端的保守序列设计了简并引物,用5'RACE方法扩增出了谷子肌动蛋白基因编码区序列。以豌豆肌动蛋白cDNA作探针进行的Southern杂交分析表明扩增出了目的基因。将所获得的片段克隆到T载体后进行测序,序列分析结果表明：谷子肌动蛋白基因的编码区长1131个核苷酸,编码了377个氨基酸;所得序列(命名为MIAc)与GenBank中注册的肌动蛋白基因序列的相似性均在60%以上,与其它肌动蛋白氨基酸序列的相似性达89%以上。根据高等植物肌动蛋白序列相似性重建了进化树,表明谷子肌动蛋白与水稻肌动蛋白异型体RAc2和RAc3之间的亲缘关系 最为密切,在进化过程中分化时间最为接近。     

TRIASSIC FORAMINIFERA FROM THE CHIALINGKIANG LIMESTONE OF SOUTH SZECHUAN

The foraminiferal fauna dealt with in this paper was collected in 1955—1956 fromthe Chialingchiang Limestone of South Szechuan by several geological parties of SzechuanPetroleum Explorational Bureau.The specimens were derived from five localities:1)Shen-teng-shan,southwest of Lung-chang County;2)Li-bi Gorge,southeast of Ho-chuanCounty;3)Ta-pu-tze,east of Nan-chuan County;4)Fang-dou-shan,north of Shih-chuCounty,and 5)Lung-tung village,south of Hsü-yung County.     

Co-existence of three species of amphibious plants in relation to spatial and temporal variation: Field evidence

Changes in vegetation of Bushells Lagoon, a freshwater body fed intermittently by the Hawkesbury River in the Sydney basin, were studied over three scales of time: broad fluctuations in areas occupied by emergent plants over 28 years; fluctuations in their percentage cover over 21 months; and, over 6 months, seasonal variation in biomass of emergent plants of two native species Ludwigia peploides (Kunth) Raven ssp. montevidensis (Spreng.) Raven and Marsilea mutica Mett., and the introduced Myriophyllum aquaticum (Vellozo) Verde. Differences in distribution and abundance of plants observed between the three species were related to environmental variation in time and space. Wind and wave action varied along the shoreline, and emergent shoots of Myriophyllum were most abundant in sheltered conditions, floating leaves of Marsilea most abundant in relatively exposed conditions and emergent shoots of Ludwigia most abundant in somewhat intermediate conditions in the shallows. Chemical characteristics of the water varied in time but, unlike water temperature, had no obvious seasonal pattern. Seasonal change occurred in the biomass of Marsilea, and to a lesser extent in that of Myriophyllum, with smaller proportions of leaf material present in winter than in summer. Though water levels were apparently stable over a period of some years (1965–74), at other times they varied greatly through flooding and drought with related major change in cover of the three species. Co-existence of the three species in the lagoon may be related to differences between their plants in establishment and growth following disturbance (regeneration niche), tolerance of wind and wave action (habitat niche), or seasonal growth (phenological niche).     

Relationships among Kengyilia species assessed by RAPD markers

To assess the interspecific relationships in Kengyilia, fourteen species of Kengyilia were used for RAPD assay. Of the 34 random primers tested, twenty (58.8%) produced polymorphic products. A total of 112 products amplified from 14 primers were selected for RAPD analysis. Eighty-three (74.1%) amplified products were found to be polymorphic among 14 species. Data were used to generate Jaccard's similarity coefficients and to construct a dendrogram using UPGMA in the NTSYS computer programs. It is concluded from this study that: (1) There was great genetic diversity among the 14 species of Kengyilia; (2) Distinct RAPD variations existed between the species from the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau and those from Xinjiang; (3) The species with similar morphological characters and the species from the same areas or neighboring geographical regions were clustered together; (4) RAPD results are comparable with those obtained from studies on morphology and cytology. RAPD assay is a useful additional method for assessing the relationships among thespecies in Kengyilia. Decontaminated thianthrene disproportion.
