Ataxia–telangiectasia (A–T) is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in the ATM gene. The ATM gene spans more than 150 kb at chromosomal region 11q23.1 and encodes a product of 3,056 amino acids. The ATM protein is a serine/threonine protein kinase and is involved in oxidative stress, cell cycle control, and DNA repair. We analyzed the 11q22-23 haplotypes and associated mutations of 16 Iranian families. We utilized standardized short tandem repeat (STR) haplotypes to enhance mutation identification. In addition to the STR markers, single-nucleotide polymorphism haplotypes were determined, using three critical polymorphisms. The entire gene was screened sequentially by protein truncation testing, single-strand conformation polymorphism, and denaturing high-performance liquid chromatography to identify the disease-causing mutations. Of the expected 32 mutations, 25 (78%) were identified. All but two mutations led to a truncated or null form of the ATM protein (nonsense, splice site, or frameshift). Twelve mutations were identified for 15 haplotypes. Five mutations were novel. Mutations were located throughout the entire gene, with no clustering. Despite the absence of an Iranian founder mutation, three-fourths of the families were homozygous, suggesting that many undetected ATM mutations still exist in Iran. For understanding the relationship between floral resources and the abundance of hoverflies, five meadows were selected at different elevations in a forested region. At each site the number of flowering herbaceous plants was assessed along a transect at 10-m intervals. To measure floral density, we counted the number of open flowers per species in each plot. Hoverflies visiting flowering plants were captured in each plot during 10 minutes. Path analysis showed that there was a negative correlation between plant species richness and syrphid abundance. Flower abundance had a strong positive direct effect on syrphid abundance but had indirect effects on the number of syrphid species. Only altitude had a strong positive direct effect on the number of syrphid species and this may be explained by the different climatic conditions. Some plant species attracted more syrphids than others. There were significantly fewer species of hoverfly per plot with increasing numbers of flowers. We interpret this to mean that plant species with a high density of flowers attracted more syrphids of the same species. Analysis of pollen grains extracted from two species of hoverflies showed that flower constancy occurred in three examined sites. 相似文献

Neurofibromin loss drives neoplastic growth and a rewiring of mitochondrial metabolism. Here we report that neurofibromin ablation dampens expression and activity of NADH dehydrogenase, the respiratory chain complex I, in an ERK-dependent fashion, decreasing both respiration and intracellular NAD+. Expression of the alternative NADH dehydrogenase NDI1 raises NAD+/NADH ratio, enhances the activity of the NAD+-dependent deacetylase SIRT3 and interferes with tumorigenicity in neurofibromin-deficient cells. The antineoplastic effect of NDI1 is mimicked by administration of NAD+ precursors or by rising expression of the NAD+ deacetylase SIRT3 and is synergistic with ablation of the mitochondrial chaperone TRAP1, which augments succinate dehydrogenase activity further contributing to block pro-neoplastic metabolic changes. These findings shed light on bioenergetic adaptations of tumors lacking neurofibromin, linking complex I inhibition to mitochondrial NAD+/NADH unbalance and SIRT3 inhibition, as well as to down-regulation of succinate dehydrogenase. The first purpose of our study was to determine culturable indoor airborne fungi in different places in Ahvaz during normal and dust event days. Ahvaz is the biggest city in southwest of Iran which has suffered from dust storms in recent decade. To minimize personal exposure to polluted air, governmental and private sectors excluding critical places such as hospitals, fire department and security organization are closed during dust event days. Therefore, the second objective of this survey was to see whether this plan (forced shutdown) is in place. Samples were collected from July 2010 to March 2011 by using quick take 30 equipped with a single-stage sampler. Fungal population was measured in school, university and hospital during normal and dust event days. Five dominant fungi genera in three sampling stations were Cladosporium, Alternaria, Aspergillus, Penicillium and Rhizopus the concentrations (CFU/m3) of which were higher during dust events than normal days. Airborne fungi such as Aspergillus, Mucor and Rhizopus are opportunistic fungi which can cause aspergillusis and mucormycosis infections in immunodeficiency individuals, vulnerable groups as well as healthy people. The results of this study confirmed the measure of forced shutdown in Ahvaz city due to increased concentration of fungi during dust event days. 相似文献

A total of 12 gastrointestinal tracts of wild boars (Sus scrofa) from western Iran (Luristan) were examined for protozoan infection between September 2000 and November 2001. Of 12 boars examined, 67% harbored one or more species of the following protozoa: Balantidium coli (25%), Tritrichomonas suis (25%), Blastocystis sp. (25%), Entamoeba polecki (17%), Entamoeba suis (8%), Iodamoeba butschlii (17%), and Chilomastix mesnili (8%). Four of these protozoan species also are reported in humans, and persons living in rural areas where wild boars are abundant should take precaution to avoid infection. 相似文献
