The parameters of length‐weight relationship (LWR) are presented for seven species of catfish from the southeastern Gulf of California. Samples were obtained every three months, in Bahia de Matanchen (using bottom trawl nets consistent of 72 hauls, with mesh sizes of 3.2 cm in the wings and 2.54 cm in the cod‐end) from February to November, 2016 and in the San Blas estuarine system (using gill nets consistent of 32 hauls, with mesh sizes of 5 cm) from August, 2015 to May, 2016 respectively. The allometric coefficient (b) of LWR varied from 2.797 for the Cominate Sea Catfish (Occidentarius platypogon (Günther, 1864)) to 3.373 for the Tete Sea Catfish (Ariopsis gilberti (Jordan & Williams, 1895)). Four species reached new records on maximum total length (Tete Sea Catfish, A. gilberti; Widehead Sea Catfish, A. guatemalensis (Günther, 1864); Conguito Sea Catfish, Cathorops liropus (Bristol, 1897); and Curator Sea Catfish, C. raredonae Marceniuk, Betancur‐R, & Acero, 2009). For six of these species this accounts for the first report on estimations of LWR parameters.  相似文献

Six types of hemocytes were found in Agallia constricta leafhoppers: plasmatocytes, spherule cells, granular hemocytes, adipohemocytes, oenocytoids, and prohemocytes. Plasmatocytes, spherule cells, and granular hemocytes accounted for 90–95% of all hemocytes in numphs and adult leafhoppers. As the insect aged from second- and third-instar nymphs to 7- and 8-week-old adults, there was a significant decrease in plasmatocytes in healthy leafhoppers compared to wound tumor virus-infected insects. In contradistinction, there were more granular and spherule hemocytes in healthy leafhoppers than in virus-infected ones as the insects aged. In general, there were more prohemocytes in infected than in healthy leafhoppers. Plasmatocytes from 4- to 8-week-old, infected leafhoppers contained large irregularly shaped, cytoplasmic inclusions. Electron microscopy of these cells showed that the inclusions were either large accumulations of wound tumor virus particles or virus-free electron dense bodies.  相似文献

We developed a new modeling framework to assess how the local abundance of one species influences the local abundance of a potential competitor while explicitly accounting for differential responses to environmental conditions. Our models also incorporate imperfect detection as well as abundance estimation error for both species. As a case study, we applied the model to four pairs of mammal species in Borneo, surveyed by extensive and spatially widespread camera trapping. We detected different responses to elevation gradients within civet, macaque, and muntjac deer species pairs. Muntjac and porcupine species varied in their response to terrain ruggedness, and the two muntjac responded different to river proximity. Bornean endemic species of civet and muntjac were more sensitive than their widespread counterparts to habitat disturbance (selective logging). Local abundance within several species pairs was positively correlated, but this is likely due to the species having similar responses to (unmodeled) environmental conditions or resources rather than representing facilitation. After accounting for environment and correcting for false absences in detection, negative correlations in local abundance appear rare in tropical mammals. Direct competition may be weak in these species, possibly because the ‘ghost of competition past’ or habitat filtering have already driven separation of the species in niche space. The analytical framework presented here could increase basic understanding of how ecological interactions shape patterns of abundance across the landscape for a range of taxa, and also provide a powerful tool for forecasting the impacts of global change.  相似文献

Extracts of nine species of plants traditionally used in Colombia for the treatment of a variety of diseases were tested in vitro for their potential antitumor (cytotoxicity) and antiherpetic activity. MTT (Tetrazolium blue) and Neutral Red colorimetric assays were used to evaluate the reduction of viability of cell cultures in presence and absence of the extracts. MTT was also used to evaluate the effects of the extracts on the lytic activity of herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). The 50% cytotoxic concentration (CC50) and the 50% inhibitory concentration of the viral effect (EC50) for each extract were calculated by linear regression analysis. Extracts from Annona muricata, A. cherimolia and Rollinia membranacea, known for their cytotoxicity were used as positive controls. Likewise, acyclovir and heparin were used as positive controls of antiherpetic activity. Methanolic extract from Annona sp. on HEp-2 cells presented a CC50 value at 72 hr of 49.6x10(3)mg/ml. Neither of the other extracts examined showed a significant cytotoxicity. The aqueous extract from Beta vulgaris, the ethanol extract from Callisia grasilis and the methanol extract Annona sp. showed some antiherpetic activity with acceptable therapeutic indexes (the ratio of CC50 to EC50). These species are good candidates for further activity-monitored fractionation to identify active principles.  相似文献

Length–weight relationship (LWR) parameters were determined for 20 fish species belonging to 14 genera and seven families. The fishes were collected monthly (May 2013 to February 2014) by soft‐bottom trawls in Bahía de Matanchén, southeast of the Gulf of California. Sizes ranged between 5.5 and 36.0 cm total length (TL) and weighed between 1 and 901 g. The allometric coefficient (b) of the LWR varied from 2.638 for Chloroscombrus orqueta to 3.668 for Neopisthopterus tropicus. This is the first report of LWR estimations for 15 of the species.  相似文献

Antibodies with desired specificity to proteins of interest provide important and versatile tools for detecting and localizing specific proteins in organisms. With the rapidly increasing number of genes cloned, the demand for antibodies to the gene products is increasing greatly. We developed a procedure to isolate highly specific antibodies to an insect intestinal mucin (IIM) from a polyclonal antiserum, which served as a “library of antibodies,” by using an E. coli lysate of the IIM cDNA clone. This procedure allows rapid and efficient isolation of target protein specific antibodies from a polyclonal antiserum made against a pool of antigens.  相似文献

The reaction of gold with thiosaccharin ligand and additional phosphorous coligands is studied. Four new Au(I) complexes with thiosaccharinate as coordinating counteranion: [Au(tsac)(PPh3)], [Au2(tsac)2(dppm)]·EtOH, Au2(tsac)2(dppe)·EtOH, and Au(tsac)(Htsac)2·0.25 EtOH (tsac: thiosaccharinate, C6H4C(S)NSO2, dppm: bis(diphenylphosphino)methane, dppe: bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane) were synthesized and characterized by means of spectroscopic techniques (IR, UV-Vis, and 1H, 13C and 13P NMR). The crystal structure of two of them, [Au(tsac)(PPh3)] and [Au2(tsac)2(dppm)]·EtOH, were solved applying single crystal X-ray diffraction and studied using the density functional theory (DFT) formalism. In the latter, the aurophilic interaction between the two gold centers was analyzed and theoretically confirmed.  相似文献

Pasteurella pneumotropica is an opportunist Gram negative bacterium responsible for rodent pasteurellosis that affects upper respiratory, reproductive and digestive tracts of mammals. In animal care facilities the presence of P. pneumotropica causes severe to lethal infection in immunodeficient mice, being also a potential source for human contamination. Indeed, occupational exposure is one of the main causes of human infection by P. pneumotropica. The clinical presentation of the disease includes subcutaneous abscesses, respiratory tract colonization and systemic infections. Given the ability of P. pneumotropica to fully disseminate in the organism, it is quite relevant to study the role of the complement system to control the infection as well as the possible evasion mechanisms involved in bacterial survival. Here, we show for the first time that P. pneumotropica is able to survive the bactericidal activity of the human complement system. We observed that host regulatory complement C4BP and Factor H bind to the surface of P. pneumotropica, controlling the activation pathways regulating the formation and maintenance of C3-convertases. These results show that P. pneumotropica has evolved mechanisms to evade the human complement system that may increase the efficiency by which this pathogen is able to gain access to and colonize inner tissues where it may cause severe infections.  相似文献
