Resonance frequency analysis of overdenture retainer implants with immediate loading Objective: To evaluate 16 patients of both sexes with lower overdenture and upper complete dentures, by analysing the resonance frequency of the initial and late stability of implants used to retain the overdenture under immediate loading. Background: Oral rehabilitation treatment with complete dentures using implants has been increasingly more common among the specialists in the oral rehabilitation area. This is an alternative for obtaining retention and stability in treatments involving conventional complete dentures, where two implants are enough to retain the overdenture satisfactorily. Materials and methods: The Osstell? Mentor device was used for the analysis in the initial period (primary stability), 3 and 15 months after the installation of the lower overdenture (secondary stability). The statistical analysis was performed with the repeated measures model (p < 0.01). Results: The implant stability quotients were observed to increase after 15 months of the rehabilitating treatment. Conclusion: The use of overdentures over two lower implants should become the treatment of choice for individuals who have a fully edentulous mandible.  相似文献

To explore the pathways by which lectins induce an inflammatory response, the lectin from Vatairea macrocarpa (VML) seeds was used to induce neutrophil migration in rats. The lectin was shown to cause cell migration, with the effect partially blocked when galactose was added to inhibit lectin activity. Neutrophil migration was also reduced when peritoneal cavity of the animals was depleted of their resident cells beforehand, suggesting that neutrophil migration was mediated by an indirect mechanism. Pre-treatment of rats with thioglycollate increased recruitment of neutrophils while depletion of mast cells by the addition of compound 48/80 had little effect on neutrophil infiltration, suggesting the involvement of macrophages in the inflammatory process induced by the lectin. Inhibition of the cyclooxigenase, leukotriene and PAF activities by indomethacin, MK886 and BN50730, respectively, did not modify the pro-inflammatory effect previously observed. However, dexamethasone and thalidomide significantly reduced the population of neutrophils in the peritoneal cavity after lectin injection. The present study suggests that the effects produced by a galactose-binding lectin do not involve lipoxygenase, cyclooxygenase or PAF mediators that are well known to be involved in the inflammatory process. The blocking actions of dexamethasone and thalidimide suggest that as yet unidentified pro-inflammatory mediators are involved.  相似文献

It is well known that most sports are characterized by the performance of intermittent high-intensity actions, requiring high muscle power production within different intervals. In fact, the manipulation of the exercise to rest ratio in muscle power training programs may constitute an interesting strategy when considering the specific performance demand of a given sport modality. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of different schemes of rest intervals and number of repetitions per set on muscle power production in the squat exercise between exercise to rest ratio-equated and -nonequated conditions. Nineteen young males (age: 25.7 ± 4.4 years; weight: 81.3 ± 13.7 kg; height: 178.1 ± 5.5 cm) were randomly submitted to 3 different resistance exercise loading schemes, as follows: short-set short-interval condition (SSSI; 12 sets of 3 repetitions with a 27.3-second interval between sets); short-set long-interval condition (SSLI; 12 sets of 3 repetitions with a 60-second interval between sets); long-set long-interval (LSLI; 6 sets of 6 repetitions with a 60-second rest interval between sets). The main finding of the present study is that the lower exercise to rest ratio protocol (SSLI) resulted in greater average power production (601.88 ± 142.48 W) when compared with both SSSI and LSLI (581.86 ± 113.18 W; 578 ± 138.78 W, respectively). Additionally, both the exercise to rest ratio-equated conditions presented similar performance and metabolic results. In summary, these findings suggest that shorter rest intervals may fully restore the individual's ability to produce muscle power if a smaller exercise volume per set is performed and that lower exercise to rest ratio protocols result in greater average power production when compared with higher ratio ones.  相似文献

To investigate the antihypertensive effects of conventional resistance exercise (RE) on the blood pressure (BP) of hypertensive subjects, 15 middle-aged (46 ± 3 years) hypertensive volunteers, deprived of antihypertensive medication (reaching 153 ± 6/93 ± 2 mm Hg systolic/diastolic BP after a 6-week medication washout period) were submitted to a 12-week conventional RE training program (3 sets of 12 repetitions at 60% 1 repetition maximum, 3 times a week on nonconsecutive days). Blood pressure was measured in all phases of the study (washout, training, detraining). Additionally, the plasma levels of several vasodilators or vasoconstrictors that potentially could be involved with the effects of RE on BP were evaluated pre- and posttraining. Conventional RE significantly reduced systolic, diastolic, and mean BP, respectively, by an average of 16 (p < 0.001), 12 (p < 0.01), and 13 mm Hg (p < 0.01) to prehypertensive values. There were no significant changes of vasoactive factors from the kallikrein-kinin or renin-angiotensin systems. After the RE training program, the BP values remained stable during a 4-week detraining period. Taken together, this study shows for the first time that conventional moderate-intensity RE alone is able to reduce the BP of stage 1 hypertensive subjects free of antihypertensive medication. Moreover, the benefits of BP reduction achieved with RE training remained unchanged for up to 4 weeks without exercise.  相似文献

The effects of different temperature-acclimations on cellular proliferation and migration were studied in the cerebral cortex of the tropical lizard, Tropidurus hispidus. Lizards were divided in two groups: warm-acclimated lizards (WALs), maintained at the temperature and photoperiod conditions of their natural habitat (mean temperature 26°C; 12:12 light:dark) and the cold-acclimated lizards (CALs), maintained at the same cycle of illumination and a mean temperature of 16°C. Animals were injected with the proliferative marker 5-bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) and euthanized fifteen or thirty days later for the immunostaining. There was no difference in the number of BrdU-positive nuclei between the experimental groups in any of the cortical layers. In CALs, the positive nuclei were found mostly close to the ependyma, whereas in WALs many positive nuclei were also found in the plexiform and cellular layers of the cortex. In CALs, BrdU-positive nuclei appeared grouped (of 2-3 nuclei), a characteristic not seen in the other group. These data suggest that temperature affects the migrating capability of the newly generated neurons in the lizard cortex, but appears not to interfere with its generation.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate methods for developing a Brazilian maize core collection. For an initial survey of the active collection, passport information, as well as characterization and evaluation of accessions, were taken into consideration, these then being divided according to geographic region and kernel-type. Multiple sampling methods were evaluated. The strategy of constant sampling generated extensive alterations in extract accession frequency. The multivariate strategy with dispersion graphs and principal components associated with the Tocher method was considered efficient for identifying the most divergent genotypes. The multivariate strategy generated greater alterations in the variance of traits. The average number of traits revealed few modifications with the various sampling strategies used. Therefore, the active collection could be considered as possessing a satisfactory amount of information for most of its accessions. Moreover, the multivariate strategy generated modifications in the variance of the traits, independent of sampling intensity.  相似文献

Neuropeptide Y regulates numerous physiological processes via at least five different Y receptors, but the specific roles of each receptor are still unclear. We previously demonstrated that Y2 receptor knockout results in a lean phenotype, increased cancellous bone volume, and an increase in plasma pancreatic polypeptide (PP), a ligand for Y4 receptors. PP-overexpressing mice are also known to have a lean phenotype. Deletion of the Y4 receptor also produced a lean phenotype and increased plasma PP levels. We therefore hypothesized that part of the Y2 phenotype results from increased PP action on Y4 receptors and tested this in PP transgenic Y4(-/-) and Y2(-/-) Y4(-/-) double knockout mice. Bone mass was not altered in Y4 knockout mice. Surprisingly, despite significant hyperphagia, Y2(-/-) Y4(-/-) mice retained a markedly lean phenotype, with reduced body weight, white adipose tissue mass, leptinemia, and insulinemia. Furthermore, bone volume was also increased threefold in Y2(-/-) Y4(-/-) mice, and this was associated with enhanced osteoblastic activity. These changes were more pronounced than those observed in Y2(-/-) mice, suggesting synergy between Y2 and Y4 receptor pathways. The lack of bone changes in PP transgenic mice suggests that PP alone is not responsible for the bone mass increases but might play a major role in the lean phenotype. However, a synergistic interaction between Y2 and Y4 pathways seems to regulate bone volume and adiposity and could have important implications for possible interventions in obesity and for anabolic treatment of osteoporotic bone loss.  相似文献

The present study was undertaken to determine tonin expression and activity in rat heart presenting isoproterenol-induced hypertrophy. Renin, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), and angiotensinogen (AG) expression were also determined. Wistar rats were treated with isoproterenol for 7 days (5 mg x kg(-1) x day(-1) sc). For untreated animals, the levels of tonin-specific activity in the atrium were 2.6- and 5.5-fold higher than those of the left and right ventricle, respectively. After treatment, the levels of tonin-specific activity increased twofold in the atrium but did not change in the ventricles. Renin expression was not detectable in these structures, and ACE expression levels did not change with treatment. AG expression was detected in the left ventricle at very low levels compared with the atrium and increased significantly only in the hypertrophied atrium (1.8-fold). Tonin mRNA was not detected in the ventricle but was found at low levels in the atrium, which increased after isoproterenol treatment. Our results permit us to conclude that tonin may play a role in the process of heart hypertrophy in the rat.  相似文献

The total syntheses of (R)-goniothalamin (1), a styryl lactone isolated from several Goniothalamus species, via catalytic asymmetric allylation of alpha-benzyloxyacetaldehyde (2), followed by ring-closing metathesis and Wittig olefination and via catalytic asymmetric allylation of trans-cinnamaldehyde (12), followed by ring-closing metathesis are reported. The antiproliferative activities of (R)-1 and its Z-isomer 10 as well as of the synthetic dihydropyranone intermediates 7 and 8 against eight different cancer cell lines are also described.  相似文献
