The reversibility of the binding of ionophores to the thylakoid membrane is studied. While gramicidin binds practically irreversibly, valinomycin and nonactin bind reversibly, however, only a small fraction (about 1 %) of the membrane-bound valinomycin or nonactin is active in ion transport. The current-voltage relationship is evaluated under these circumstances. We have found that it is practically linear. This together with the relationship between current and ion concentration agrees qualitatively with the results reported for bimolecular lipid membranes, which contain a large fraction of negatively charged lipids. For the ionophores, valinomycin and nonactin, the binding equilibria (K ≈ 104) and the turnover numbers (≈ 3 · 104/s) are evaluated for their action on the thylakoid membrane. Possible reasons for the inactivity of the majority of membrane-bound ionophore molecules are discussed.  相似文献

The activity of dopamine-B-hydroxylase in blood has recently been demonstrated to be under genetic control and to correlate closely with urinary catecholamine excretion. The results of the present study did not demonstrate any relationship between a major catecholamine metabolite in urine, 3-methoxy-4-hydroxy phenylglycol, and dopamine-B-hydroxylase activity in plasma, monoamine oxidase activity in platelets, or monoamine oxidase activity in plasma. Differences in the origin of urinary catecholamines and urinary 3-methoxy-4-hydroxy phenyglycol may be responsible for these divergent results.  相似文献

Concanavalin A and Robinia pseudoacacia lectin decreased [(3)H]thymidine incorporation into acid-insoluble material of fibroblasts cultured from 6-10-day chick embryos. In contrast, these lectins stimulated [(3)H]thymidine incorporation in cells from 16-day embryos. These effects are due to neither [(3)H]thymidine permeability modification nor toxicity of the lectins. The specificity of lectin action was proved by blocking experiments with alpha-methyl mannopyranoside and with anti-(Robinia lectin) serum.  相似文献

In the locustid Locusta migratoria and the tettigoniids Decticus verrucivorus and Tettigonia cantans, comparative aspects of physiological properties of vibratory/auditory ventral-cord neurones were studied by single cell recordings.These neurones all receive inputs from both vibratory and auditory receptors. Nevertheless, they can be classified into “V neurones” responding preferentially to vibration stimuli, “VS neurones” responding to vibration and airborne sound, and “S neurones” responding preferentially to airborne sound. In every group, there are several types with different physiological properties, normally represented by one neurone on each body side.In Locusta and in the tettigoniid species, the same physiological types of vibratory/auditory neurones were found, although there are differences in the synaptic connectivity of the vibration receptors of the different legs. In Locusta, the middle leg receptors have the strongest influence on the generation of suprathreshold responses of the central neurones, whereas in the tettigoniids the receptors of the ipsilateral fore leg are the most influential.Two of the V neurones receive inputs mainly from campaniform sensilla and other low-frequency vibration receptors, the other V and VS neurones are mainly influenced by the subgenual receptors. Central information processing results in preferential responses to different frequency/intensity ranges in different neurones.Most VS neurone types show the same response characteristics (e.g. time pattern of response, habituation) either to vibration or to airborne-sound stimuli. Simultaneous presentation of both stimuli leads to qualitative changes in the response characteristics. Therefore, the co-processing of auditory and vibratory signals seems to be very important in the acoustic behaviour of grasshoppers.  相似文献

The responses of single vibratory receptors and ascending ventral cord interneurones were studied extracellularly in Gryllus campestris L. The physiology of the vibration receptors resembled those found in tettigoniids and locusts. The frequency responses of the subgenual receptors provide two possible cues for central frequency discrimination: differences in mean tuning between groups of receptors in the different leg pairs and a range of receptors tuned to different frequencies within one subgenual organ.Most of the ascending vibratory interneurones were highly sensitive in either the low or high frequency range. Broadbanded neurones were less sensitive. The characteristic sensitivity peaks of these units are due mainly to receptor inputs from a particular leg pair, although most central neurones receive inputs from all 6 legs. Only one neurone type, TN1 received excitatory inputs from both auditory and vibratory receptors; its responses were greatly enhanced by the simultaneous presentation of both stimulus modes. The responses to sound stimuli of AN2, on the other hand, were inhibited by vibration. No other auditory interneurones investigated were influenced by inputs from vibration receptors. Central processing of vibratory information in the cricket is compared with that of tettigoniids and locusts.  相似文献

Eight species of the lichen genus Phaeophyscia are recorded from East Africa. Two species, P. confusa Moberg and P. fumosa Moberg, are described as new. The delimitation of the genus is discussed and the publication date of the combinations P. hirsuta (Mereschk.) Moberg, P. hispidula (Ach.) Moberg and P. rubropulchra (De–gel.) Abstract The cell wall of Candida albicans contains mannoproteins that are covalently associated with β-1,6-glucan. When spheroplasts were allowed to regenerate a new cell wall, initially non-glucosylated cell wall proteins accumulated in the medium. While the spheroplasts became osmotically stable, β-1,6-glucosylated proteins could be identified in their cell wall by SDS-extraction or β-1,3-glucanase digestion. At later stages of regeneration, β-1,3-glucosylated proteins were also found. Hence, incorporation of proteins into the cell wall is accompanied by extracellular coupling to β-1,6-/β-l,3-glucan. The SDS-extractable glucosylated proteins probably represent degradation products of wall proteins rather than their precursors. Tunicamycin delayed, but did not prevent the formation of β-1,6-glucosylated proteins, demonstrating that β-1,6-glucan is not attached to N -glycosidic side-chains of wall proteins.  相似文献
