Upper limb nerve injuries are common, and their treatment poses a challenge for physicians and surgeons. Experimental models help in minimum exploration of the functional characteristics of peripheral nerve injuries of forelimbs. This study was conducted to characterize the functional recovery (1, 3, 7, 10, 14, and 21 days) after median and ulnar nerve crush in mice and analyze the histological and biochemical markers of nerve regeneration (after 21 days). Sensory–functional impairments appeared after 1 day. The peripheral nerve morphology, the nerve structure, and the density of myelin proteins [myelin protein zero (P0) and peripheral myelin protein 22 (PMP22)] were analyzed after 21 days. Cold allodynia and fine motor coordination recovery occurred on the 10th day, and grip strength recovery was observed on the 14th day after injury. After 21 days, there was partial myelin sheath recovery. PMP22 recovery was complete, whereas P0 recovery was not. Results suggest that there is complete functional recovery even with partial remyelination of median and ulnar nerves in mice.
The current SARS-CoV-2 pandemic is wreaking havoc throughout the world and has rapidly become a global health emergency. A central question concerning COVID-19 is why some individuals become sick and others not. Many have pointed already at variation in risk factors between individuals. However, the variable outcome of SARS-CoV-2 infections may, at least in part, be due also to differences between the viral subspecies with which individuals are infected. A more pertinent question is how we are to overcome the current pandemic. A vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 would offer significant relief, although vaccine developers have warned that design, testing and production of vaccines may take a year if not longer. Vaccines are based on a handful of different designs (i), but the earliest vaccines were based on the live, attenuated virus. As has been the case for other viruses during earlier pandemics, SARS-CoV-2 will mutate and may naturally attenuate over time (ii). What makes the current pandemic unique is that, thanks to state-of-the-art nucleic acid sequencing technologies, we can follow in detail how SARS-CoV-2 evolves while it spreads. We argue that knowledge of naturally emerging attenuated SARS-CoV-2 variants across the globe should be of key interest in our fight against the pandemic. 相似文献
Trichoderma harzianum ALL42 were capable of overgrowing and degrading Rhizoctonia solani and Macrophomina phaseolina mycelia, coiling around the hyphae with formation of apressoria and hook-like structures. Hyphae of T.harzianum ALL42 did not show any coiling around Fusarium sp. hyphae suggesting that mycoparasitism may be different among the plant pathogens. In this study, a secretome analysis
was used to identify some extracellular proteins secreted by T.harzianum ALL42 after growth on cell wall of M.phaseolina, Fusarium sp., and R.solani. The secreted proteins were analyzed by two-dimensional electrophoresis and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. A total of 60 T.harzianum ALL42 secreted proteins excised from the gel were analyzed from the three growth conditions. While seven cell wall-induced
proteins were identified, more than 53 proteins spots remain unidentified, indicating that these proteins are either novel
proteins or proteins that have not yet been sequenced. Endochitinase, β-glucosidase, α-mannosidase, acid phosphatase, α-1,3-glucanase,
and proteases were identified in the gel and also detected in the supernatant of culture. 相似文献
AIM: To validate the predictive value of micronuclei (MN) in peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) and glutathione-S-transferases (GSTs) polymorphisms (GSTM1 and GSTT1) for mortality risk (MR) of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). METHODS: Blood samples from 1650 healthy subjects selected from the general population were collected between June 1991 and November 1993, and slides were immediately prepared for MN assessment. The vital status, or the cause of death, was monitored for all subjects until January 2005. At the end of the follow-up, 111 deaths were recorded and 39 CVD cases were observed (age range=42-88 years). Two thousand binucleated (BN) cells/subject were scored for the MN assay and GSTs genotypes were assessed on the DNA extracted from the blood or serum samples. RESULTS: A significantly higher MN frequency was recorded for the case group in comparison with the control group (n=67, Kruskall-Wallis test, p=0.006) and GSTT1 null genotype was significantly less frequent in CVD patients (chi(2)-test, p=0.036). The influence of other factors were evaluated using a unconditional logistic regression that confirmed a significant association of GSTT1 positive genotype with an increased OR for CVD (OR=6.29, 95% CI 1.32-29.95) beside a significant effect of age (OR=1.13, 95% CI 1.03-1.26 year(-1)). Finally, subjects with an higher MN frequency showed a higher MR for CVD (Log-rank test, p=0.001). CONCLUSIONS: MN confirmed to be a suitable cytogenetic biomarker for early prediction of CVD death. The GSTT1 positive genotype is associated with an increased MR for CVD. 相似文献
Blood-feeding organisms digest hemoglobin, releasing large quantities of heme inside their digestive tracts. Free heme is
very toxic, and these organisms have evolved several mechanisms to protect against its deleterious effects. One of these adaptations
is the crystallization of heme into the dark-brown pigment hemozoin (Hz). Here we review the process of Hz formation, focusing
on organisms other than Plasmodium that have contributed to a better understanding of heme crystallization. Hemozoin has been found in several distinct classes
of organisms including protozoa, helminths and insects and Hz formation is the predominant form of heme detoxification. The
available evidence indicates that amphiphilic structures such as phospholipid membranes and lipid droplets accompanied by
specific proteins play a major role in heme crystallization. Because this process is specific to a number of blood-feeding
organisms and absent in their hosts, Hz formation is an attractive target for the development of novel drugs to control illnesses
associated with these hematophagous organisms. 相似文献
The aim of this study was to analyze the external morphology of the scutellum through optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) in male specimens of Triatoma costalimai, T. delpontei, T. eratyrusiformis, T. matogrossensis, T. infestans melanosoma, T. sherlocki, T. tibiamaculata, and T. vandae. A total of 30 photographs of the scutellum were made. Magnification varied from 50X to 750X. Regarding depth and forms of the central depression, the heart-shaped form was predominant, with some exceptions, so that this shape appears to be a common characteristic for species of genus Triatoma Laporte, 1832. In T. eratyrusiformis, a kind of sensillum with important taxonomic value was observed. The different sizes and shapes of the designs found on the posterior process of the scutellum were also of important taxonomic interest. The study of the scutellum based on SEM showed valuable characteristics, allowing the use of this structure to aid the diagnosis of triatomine species. Thus, more specimens in subsequent studies and analyses of morphometric parameters should contribute to agreement on phylogenetic aspects in this genus. A Key to eight species of Triatoma based on male scutellar morphology is presented. 相似文献
Recently synthesized π-extended symmetrical tetraoxa[8]circulenes that exhibit electroluminescent properties were calculated at the density functional theory (DFT) level using the quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM) approach to electron density distribution analysis. Nucleus-independent chemical shift (NICS) indices were used to characterize the aromaticity of the studied molecules. The tetraoxa[8]circulene molecules were found to consist of two antiaromatic perimeters (according to the Hückel “4n” antiaromaticity rule) that include 8 and 24 π-electrons. Conversely, NICS calculations demonstrated the existence of a common π-extended system (distributed like a flat ribbon) in the studied tetraoxa[8]circulene molecules. Thus, these symmetrical tetraoxa[8]circulene molecules provide examples of diatropic systems characterized by the presence of induced diatropic ring currents.

The beta glycoside of the tetrasaccharide sequence beta-Ant-(1-->3)-alpha-l-Rhap-(1-->3)-alpha-l-Rhap-(1-->2)-l-Rhap, whose aglycon allows conjugation to proteins, was synthesized for the first time. A stepwise synthetic approach was applied with thioglycosides as glycosyl donors, and the beta anomer of the compound was obtained equipped with a spacer group whose further transformation allows conjugation to suitable carriers. To synthesize the beta-anthrosyl linkage with high stereoselectivity, a linker-equipped rhamnotriose derivative was glycosylated with ethyl 4-azido-3-O-benzyl-2-O-bromoacetyl-4,6-dideoxy-1-thio-beta-d-glucopyranoside. Further functionalization of the tetrasaccharide thus obtained, followed by deprotection, gave the target substance. 相似文献
