Based on information obtained from publications, online material and experienced birdwatchers we describe changes in the breeding avifauna of Israel between 2003 and 2016. We provide details on nine species that were found breeding in Israel during this period for the first time (Common Shelduck, Great Cormorant, Black-winged Kite, Caspian Tern, White-cheeked Tern, Common Wood Pigeon, Black Bush Robin, Basra Reed Warbler, Chiffchaff); two species that were found breeding in Israel after they were not documented breeding for more than 50 years (Great Crested Grebe, Pallid Scops Owl), one species that significantly extended its breeding range in Israel (Striated Heron), and two exotic species that have recently established populations in Israel (Monk Parakeet, Vinous-breasted Starling). This brings the number of bird species breeding in Israel in 2016 to 220. We also report here that out of six new breeding species reported in 2003, three species established breeding populations in Israel, while the other species did not continue to breed in Israel regularly. 相似文献

The Son-killer bacterium, Arsenophonus nasoniae, infects Nasonia vitripennis (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae), a parasitic wasp that attacks filth flies. This gammaproteobacterium kills a substantial amount of male embryos produced by an infected female. Aside from male death, the bacterium does not measurably affect the host, and how it is maintained in the host population is unknown. Interestingly, this bacterial symbiont can be transmitted both vertically (from mother to offspring) and horizontally (to unrelated Nasonia wasps developing in the same fly host). This latter mode may allow the bacterium to spread throughout the ecological community of filth flies and their parasitoids, and to colonize novel species, as well as permit its long-term persistence.We tested 11 species of filth flies and 25 species of their associated parasitoids (representing 28 populations from 16 countries) using diagnostic PCR to assess the bacterium’s actual host range. In addition to 16S rRNA, two loci were targeted: the housekeeping gene infB, and a sequence with high homology to a DNA polymerase gene from a lysogenic phage previously identified from other insect symbionts. We identified infections of A. nasoniae in four species of parasitoids, representing three taxonomic families. Highly similar phage sequences were also identified in three of the four species. These results identify the symbiont as a generalist, rather than a specialist restricted solely to species of Nasonia, and also that horizontal transmission may play an important role in its maintenance. 相似文献

24-homologated 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 compounds: separation of calcium and cell differentiation activities 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
A series of 24-homologated 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 compounds have been chemically synthesized and studied with regard to their activity in inducing differentiation of human promyelocyte HL-60 cells to monocytes and in calcium mobilizing activity in vitamin D deficient rats. Homologation of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 or its delta 22 analogue by one or two carbons increases by 10-fold and three-carbon homologation reduces by half the activity in causing differentiation of HL-60. On the other hand, homologation causes a substantial decrease in in vivo calcium mobilization activity. The addition of each carbon at the 24-position decreases binding to the HL-60 receptor or rat intestinal receptor by 5-10-fold so that binding affinity of the trihomo compound for the receptors is 130 times less that of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3. Thus, binding affinity for the receptor cannot account for the preferential activity of the 24-homologated compounds in inducing cell differentiation. 相似文献

Seven of eight strains of Mycoplasma (PPLO) were found to be sensitive to the deoxystreptamines, certain macrolides, and the tetracyclines. These antibiotics are relative noncytotoxic. Kanamycin and tetracycline were useful in eliminating PPLO (pleuropneumonia-like organisms) strain Squibb no. 1 from a HeLa cell line which was deliberately contaminated with PPLO. Repeated exposure of M. laidlawii type B cells to neomycin resulted in a 50-fold increase in resistance, and the resistant strain was also resistant to gentamicin, kanamycin, neomycin, and paromomycin. A tetracycline-resistant strain of this culture was found to be resistant to 7-chlortetracycline, 7-chlor-6-demethyltetracycline, and 5-hydroxytetracycline. BH3 only proteins trigger cell death by interacting with pro- and anti-apoptotic members of the BCL-2 family of proteins. Here we report that BH3 peptides corresponding to the death domain of BH3-only proteins, which bind all the pro-survival BCL-2 family proteins, induce cell death in the absence of BAX and BAK. The BH3 peptides did not cause the release of cytochrome c from isolated mitochondria or from mitochondria in cells. However, the BH3 peptides did cause a decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential but did not induce the opening of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore. Interestingly, the BH3 peptides induced mitochondria to undergo fission in the absence of BAX and BAK. The binding of BCL-XL with dynamin-related protein 1 (DRP1), a GTPase known to regulate mitochondrial fission, increased in the presence of BH3 peptides. These results suggest that pro-survival BCL-2 proteins regulate mitochondrial fission and cell death in the absence of BAX and BAK. 相似文献

Abstract: The synthetic glucocorticoid dexamethasone enhanced histamine-evoked catecholamine secretion from cultured bovine chromaffin cells. Dexamethasone enhanced the effects of histamine on both adrenergic (epinephrine-rich) and noradrenergic (norepinephrine-rich) chromaffin cells but had a more dramatic effect on noradrenergic cells. Histamine-evoked secretion in noradrenergic cells appeared to become rapidly inactivated, whereas the rate of secretion in adrenergic cells was nearly constant for up to 2 h; dexamethasone treatment attenuated the inactivation seen in noradrenergic cells. The effect of dexamethasone appeared after a lag of several hours and was maximal by 24 h. The EC50 for dexamethasone was ∼1 n M . The effect of dexamethasone was mimicked by the glucocorticoid agonist RU 28362 and was blocked by the antagonist RU 38486, indicating that the effects of these steroids were mediated by the glucocorticoid or type II corticosteroid receptor. Histamine-evoked catecholamine secretion in both dexamethasone-treated and untreated cells was blocked by the H1 histamine receptor antagonist mepyramine but was not affected by the H2 antagonist cimetidine; thus, dexamethasone appeared to enhance an H1 receptor-mediated process. In the absence of glucocorticoids, H1 receptor mRNA levels were higher in adrenergic than in noradrenergic cells. Dexamethasone increased H1 receptor mRNA levels in both cell types. The increased expression of H1 receptors presumably contributes to the enhancement of histamine-evoked catecholamine secretion by glucocorticoids. We explored whether young children exhibit subtypes of behavioral sequences during sibling interaction. Ten-minute, free-play observations of over 300 sibling dyads were coded for positivity, negativity and disengagement. The data were analyzed using growth mixture modeling (GMM). Younger (18-month-old) children’s temporal behavioral sequences showed a harmonious (53%) and a casual (47%) class. Older (approximately four-year-old) children’s behavior was more differentiated revealing a harmonious (25%), a deteriorating (31%), a recovery (22%) and a casual (22%) class. A more positive maternal affective climate was associated with more positive patterns. Siblings’ sequential behavioral patterns tended to be complementary rather than reciprocal in nature. The study illustrates a novel use of GMM and makes a theoretical contribution by showing that young children exhibit distinct types of temporal behavioral sequences that are related to parenting processes. 相似文献
