The locus (IP2) for the hereditary form of incontinentia pigmenti (IP) has been mapped to Xq28 by linkage analysis. We studied three IP families with polymorphic markers in the Xq28 region. In two families we observed recombination between the marker loci and IP. In the third family no crossing overs were seen and linkage to the Xq28 region could not be excluded. The other IP locus (IP1) has been mapped to Xp 11.21, because of sporadic cases of IP with X-chromosomal alterations involving Xp11.21. To check whether this locus is linked to IP in these families, we used polymorphic markers in the Xp11 region. In all three families recombinations were observed, thus excluding linkage to this locus in these IP families.  相似文献

This study was undertaken to estimate the total number of cholinergic cells and the percentage of cholinergic cells that contain estrogen receptor-alpha (ER alpha) in the rat basal forebrain. Double immunostaining for choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) and ER alpha was carried out on 50-microm-thick free-floating sections. Because routine mounting method causes considerable flattening of the sections, we embedded immunostained sections in Durcupan, an epoxy resin known to cause virtually no shrinkage. When this procedure was used the section thickness was well preserved, individual cells could be clearly identified, and subcellular localization of ER alpha immunoreactivity was easy to verify. Cell counting in these sections revealed that the rat basal forebrain contains 26,390 +/- 1097 (mean +/- SEM) cholinergic neurons. This comprises 9674 +/- 504 in the medial septum-vertical diagonal band of Broca, 9403 +/- 484 in the horizontal diagonal band of Broca, and 7312 +/- 281 in the nucleus basalis. In these nuclei, 60%, 46%, and 14% of the cholinergic neurons were co-localized with ER alpha, respectively. We believe that our results are an improvement on existing data because of the better distinction of individual neurons that the Durcupan embedding method brings.  相似文献

The association between abdominal obesity and atherogenic lipid profile emerges from complex interactions of genes and environment. We aimed to explore the heritability and effects of overweight on serum lipid profile (high‐density lipoprotein‐cholesterol (HDL‐C), HDL mean particle size, percentages of HDL2b, 2a, 3a, 3b, and 3c, low‐density lipoprotein‐cholesterol (LDL‐C), LDL peak particle size and triglycerides (TGs)) in healthy, young adults. HDL‐C, LDL‐C, and TG were measured in 52 monozygotic (MZ) and 89 dizygotic (DZ) twin pairs, aged 23–32 years, chosen to represent a wide range of BMIs (17.6–42.9 kg/m2). Of them, 24 MZ and 26 DZ pairs were chosen at random for measurements of HDL mean and LDL peak particle sizes and percentages of HDL subspecies. The heritabilities of the lipid parameters adjusted for BMI were HDL‐C 73%, HDL mean particle size 56%, HDL subspecies 46–63%, LDL‐C 79%, LDL peak particle size 49%, and TG 64%. Genetic and environmental correlations between BMI and HDL‐C, LDL‐C, and TG were modest (0.3–0.4). Abdominal overweight (waist circumference ≥94 cm for males and ≥80 cm for females) associated with decreased HDL‐C, increased LDL‐C, and TG concentrations, smaller HDL mean particle size, lower HDL2b, and higher HDL3c percentages in both genders. Within MZ twins, controlling for genetic influences, within‐pair differences in HDL3c percentage were associated with those in waist (r = 0.46, P = 0.032) and BMI (r = 0.51, P = 0.013). In conclusion, serum lipid parameters, including LDL peak and HDL mean particle sizes and HDL subspecies distribution are under strong genetic control. Overweight associated with significant lipid profile changes, particularly, small HDL3c increased in overweight independent of genetic influences.  相似文献

We studied life history and secondary production of Cheumatopsyche spp. (Trichoptera: Hydropsychidae) in StroublesCreek, a 3rd order stream near Blacksburg, Virginia to compare lifehistories and production dynamics in two reaches with differentland-uses. The upstream reach was influenced by agriculturalactivities and more annual degree-days accumulated in this sectionof the stream. The downstream reach was surrounded by forest,received less thermal input than the upstream reach, and showedlittle evidence of human disturbance. Differences between the twosites included a shift in dominant taxa and changes in voltinismand production of hydropsychids. Cheumatopsyche pettiti(Banks) was dominant at the upstream site, while C. pettitiand Cheumatopsyche oxa Ross were both abundant downstream.Cheumatopsyche larvae and other aquatic insects had higherdensities at the forested downstream site. C. pettiti wasbivoltine at the upstream site, but C. pettiti and C. oxa were partially bivoltine downstream, with a small summergeneration overlapping with continuous emergence of overwinteringlarvae. Cheumatopsyche production at the two sites inStroubles Creek was higher than in forested, low-order streams ofNorth America, but similar to some values obtained at streams inagricultural areas and large rivers. Production was higher at thedownstream site, but the superior bivoltinism at the upstream sitecounterbalanced, to some extent, the increase in larval densitythat caused higher production downstream. The adjustment in lifehistory and production dynamics, in the two reaches, showed theecological plasticity of Cheumatopsyche and the importance ofhydropsychids in the energy flow of moderately disturbedstreams.  相似文献
