This paper describes a method for growing a recurrent neural network of fuzzy threshold units for the classification of feature vectors. Fuzzy networks seem natural for performing classification, since classification is concerned with set membership and objects generally belonging to sets of various degrees. A fuzzy unit in the architecture proposed here determines the degree to which the input vector lies in the fuzzy set associated with the fuzzy unit. This is in contrast to perceptrons that determine the correlation between input vector and a weighting vector. The resulting membership value, in the case of the fuzzy unit, is compared with a threshold, which is interpreted as a membership value. Training of a fuzzy unit is based on an algorithm for linear inequalities similar to Ho-Kashyap recording. These fuzzy threshold units are fully connected in a recurrent network. The network grows as it is trained. The advantages of the network and its training method are: (1) Allowing the network to grow to the required size which is generally much smaller than the size of the network which would be obtained otherwise, implying better generalization, smaller storage requirements and fewer calculations during classification; (2) The training time is extremely short; (3) Recurrent networks such as this one are generally readily implemented in hardware; (4) Classification accuracy obtained on several standard data sets is better than that obtained by the majority of other standard methods; and (5) The use of fuzzy logic is very intuitive since class membership is generally fuzzy.  相似文献

Aristaless-related genes, a subset of the Paired-related homeobox genes, have in the past few years emerged as a group of regulators of essential events during vertebrate embryogenesis. One group of aristaless-related genes has been linked to the morphogenesis of the craniofacial and appendicular skeleton by their expression patterns and by the phenotypes of natural and artificial mouse mutants. Expression and function in the nervous system characterise a second group, and a third group, the Pitx genes, have been shown to have many different roles, including functions in the pituitary, left-right determination and limb development.  相似文献

We report here the biochemical characterization of the deafness-associated mitochondrial tRNASer(UCN) T7511C mutation, in conjunction with homoplasmic ND1 T3308C and tRNAAla T5655C mutations using cybrids constructed by transferring mitochondria from lymphoblastoid cell lines derived from an African family into human mtDNA-less (ρ°) cells. Three cybrids derived from an affected matrilineal relative carrying the homoplasmic T7511C mutation, exhibited ~75% decrease in the tRNASer(UCN) level, compared with three control cybrids. This amount of reduction in the tRNASer(UCN) level is below a proposed threshold to support a normal rate of mitochondrial protein synthesis in lymphoblastoid cell lines. This defect is likely a primary contributor to ~52% reduction in the rate of mitochondrial protein synthesis and marked defects in respiration and growth properties in galactose-containing medium. Interestingly, the T5655C mutation produces ~50% reduction in the tRNAAla level in mutant cells. Strikingly, the T3308C mutation causes a significant decrease both in the amount of ND1 mRNA and co-transcribed tRNALeu(UUR) in mutant cells. Thus, mitochondrial dysfunctions caused by the T5655C and T3308C mutations may modulate the phenotypic manifestation of the T7511C mutation. These observations imply that a combination of the T7511C mutation with two mtDNA mutations accounts for the high penetrance of deafness in this family.  相似文献

A novel thin film ethanol sensor using sputtered Ni/Pt/Ti on an Al2O3 substrate as the working electrode in an alkaline solution was developed. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to characterize the nanostructure of nickel films. Sputtering deposition conditions for maximum catalytic efficiency, electrode selectivity, and reproducibility were discussed. The results showed that ethanol oxidation was more efficient on the sputtered Ni/Pt/Ti on an Al2O3 substrate electrode than that on the conventional nickel electrode. The optimal operating conditions to generate the sputtered Ni/Pt/Ti on the Al2O3 substrate electrode were: 45 min of Ni sputtering deposition time, and 50 W of Ni sputtering power. The results also indicated that the response time of the prepared ethanol sensor is 27 s and the best sensitivity is 3.08 microA microM(-1) cm(-2).  相似文献

An earlier study identified quantitative trait loci (QTLs) lb4, lb5b, and lb11b for quantitative resistance to Phytophthora infestans (late blight) in a backcross population derived from crossing susceptible cultivated tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) with resistant L. hirsutum. The QTLs were located in intervals spanning 28–47 cM. Subsequently, near-isogenic lines (NILs) were developed for lb4, lb5b, and lb11b by marker-assisted backcrossing to L. esculentum. Sub-NILs containing overlapping L. hirsutum segments across each QTL region were selected and used to validate the QTL effects, fine-map QTLs, and evaluate potential linkage drag between resistance QTLs and QTLs for horticultural traits. The NILs and sub-NILs were evaluated for disease resistance and eight horticultural traits at three field locations. Resistance QTLs were detected in all three sets of NIL lines, confirming the BC1 mapping results. Lb4 mapped near TG609, and between TG182 and CT194, on chromosome 4, a 6.9-cM interval; lb5b mapped to an 8.8-cM interval between TG69a and TG413 on chromosome 5, with the most likely position near TG23; and lb11b mapped to a 15.1-cM interval on chromosome 11 between TG194 and TG400, with the peak centered between CT182 and TG147. Most QTLs for horticultural traits were identified in intervals adjacent to those containing the late blight resistance QTLs. Fine mapping of these QTLs permits the use of marker-assisted selection for the precise introgression of L. hirsutum segments containing late blight resistance alleles separately from those containing deleterious alleles at horticulturally important QTLs.Electronic Supplementary Material Supplementary material is available in the online version of this article at Communicated by D.B. Essential fatty acid (EFA) deficiency during cholestasis is mainly due to malabsorption of dietary EFA (23). Theoretically, dietary phospholipids (PL) may have a higher bioavailability than dietary triglycerides (TG) during cholestasis. We developed murine models for EFA deficiency (EFAD) with and without extrahepatic cholestasis and compared the efficacy of oral supplementation of EFA as PL or as TG. EFAD was induced in mice by feeding a high-fat EFAD diet. After 3 wk on this diet, bile duct ligation was performed in a subgroup of mice to establish extrahepatic cholestasis. Cholestatic and noncholestatic EFAD mice continued on the EFAD diet (controls) or were supplemented for 3 wk with EFA-rich TG or EFA-rich PL. Fatty acid composition was determined in plasma, erythrocytes, liver, and brain. After 4 wk of EFAD diet, induction of EFAD was confirmed by a sixfold increased triene-to-tetraene ratio (T/T ratio) in erythrocytes of noncholestatic and cholestatic mice (P < 0.001). EFA-rich TG and EFA-rich PL were equally effective in preventing further increase of the erythrocyte T/T ratio, which was observed in cholestatic and noncholestatic nonsupplemented mice (12- and 16-fold the initial value, respectively). In cholestatic mice, EFA-rich PL was superior to EFA-rich TG in decreasing T/T ratios of liver TG and PL (each P < 0.05) and in increasing brain PL concentrations of the long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFA) docosahexaenoic acid and arachidonic acid (each P < 0.05). We conclude that oral EFA supplementation in the form of PL is more effective than in the form of TG in increasing LCPUFA concentrations in liver and brain of cholestatic EFAD mice.  相似文献

A method for the quantitation of pg/ml levels of 17beta-estradiol and 17beta-trenbolone in bovine serum by gas chromatography/electron-capture mass spectrometry has been developed and validated. Using the area ratios of the integrated molecular-ion peaks of the analytes to their corresponding deuterated internal standards, [2,4,16,16-2H4] 17beta-estradiol (17beta-estradiol-d(4)) and [16,16-2H2] 17beta-trenbolone (17beta-trenbolone-d(2)), and non-weighted linear regression, two calibration curves per analyte; 5-50 and 50-500 pg/ml for 17beta-estradiol in sera, and 25-250 and 250-2500 pg/ml for 17beta-trenbolone in sera, respectively, were constructed. Splitless injection of 200 fg 17beta-estradiol and 1000 fg 17beta-trenbolone could be detected and quantified. Tested batches of control bovine sera did not exhibit interference for 17beta-trenbolone, and showed expected background presence of endogenous 17beta-estradiol. Intra-day residual errors did not exceed 20%, and regression correlations were greater than 0.99. Intra-day precision data was similar to inter-day precision data. Using this method, 16 samples can be processed within one working day.  相似文献
