In human atrial trabeculae, we examined the effects of doxorubicin on the isometric force of contraction, mitochondrial respiration, membrane potential and calcium retention capacity. Compared with untreated controls, doxorubicin induced contractile dysfunction and depression of mitochondrial respiration. Mitochondria isolated from doxorubicin-treated human atrial trabeculae displayed reduced transmembrane potential and calcium retention capacity. Cyclosporine A, a mitochondrial membrane transition pore opening blocker, prevented mitochondrial dysfunction and impaired contractile performance induced by doxorubicin. The study suggests that a mitochondrial membrane transition pore opening is involved in the development of doxorubicin cardiotoxicity in human hearts.  相似文献

To dissect differences in both lipid accumulation and composition and the role of these modifications during drought stress, four grapevine cultivars exhibiting differential tolerance to drought were subjected to water shortage. Tolerant cultivars, Kahli Kerkennah and Cardinal, exhibited higher leaf water potential (Ψw), and lower lipid peroxidation compared to the sensitive cultivars Guelb Sardouk and Superior Seedless during stress. Total lipid amounts increased during stress only in the leaves of the tolerant cultivars. Drought induced increases in the ratios digalactosyldiacylglycerol/monogalactosyldiacylglycerol and phosphatidylcholine/phoshatidylethanolamine of almost all the drought stressed cultivars. Moreover, the overall analysis of the composition of fatty acids revealed that a linolenic acid was prevalent in grapevine and the unsaturation level of lipids increased under water stress in all the cultivars. Specific adjustments in the lipid composition during stress could compromise stress tolerance.  相似文献

Cakile maritima is a local oilseed halophyte exhibiting potential for secondary metabolite production. In the present study, plant growth, leaf polyphenol content and antioxidant activity were comparatively analyzed in two C. maritima Tunisian accessions (Jerba and Tabarka, respectively sampled from arid and humid bioclimatic stages) under salt constraint. Three-week-old plants were subjected to 0, 100, and 400 mM NaCl for 28 days under glasshouse conditions. A significant variability in salt response was found between both accessions: while Tabarka growth (shoot biomass, leaf expansion) was significantly restricted at 100 and 400 mM NaCl, compared to the control, Jerba growth increased at 100mM before declining at 400 mM NaCl. The better behaviour of Jerba salt-challenged plants, compared to those of Tabarka, may be related to their higher polyphenol content (1.56- and 1.3-fold the control, at 100 and 400 mM NaCl respectively) and antioxidant activity (smaller IC(50) values for both 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and superoxide scavenging), associated with lower leaf MDA accumulation (ca. -66% of the control at 100mM NaCl). Taken together, our findings suggest that halophytes may be interesting for production of antioxidant compounds, and that the accession-dependent capacity to induce antioxidative mechanisms in response to salt, may result in a corresponding variability for growth sustainability.  相似文献

Treatment of tomato seedlings (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. cv. 63/5 F1) with increasing CdCl2 concentrations in the culture medium resulted in Cd accumulation more important in roots than in leaves. Biomass production was severely inhibited, even at low Cd concentration. Cd reduced chlorophyll content in leaves and enhanced lipid peroxidation. An increase in antioxidative enzyme (superoxide dismutase, ascorbate peroxidase, guaiacol peroxidase, glutathione reductase) activities was more pronounced in leaves than in roots, while catalase activity increased only in roots. In addition, changes in isoenzyme composition were observed using the non-denaturing polyacrylamid gel electrophoresis.  相似文献

This paper deals with global statistical unsupervised magnetic resonance image (MRI) segmentation based on a Markovian model combined with the family of mixture identification algorithms EM (Hidden Markov Random Field [HMRF-EM]) and using the Bootstrap sampling, which allows a greater respect to the data independence assumption and a reduction of algorithmic complexity. This leads not only to a flexibility in the control of running time but also an improvement in the classification quality relatively to the performance shown by an earlier version of the bootstrapped HMRF-EM.  相似文献

Annular seabream, Diplodus annularis (Linnaeus, 1758), were caught off the coast of the Gulf of Gabes (Southern Tunisia, Central Mediterranean) between April 2008 and March 2010 by commercial catches. With a total 2066 specimens the fish ranged in size from 7.7 cm to 18.5 cm total length and from 7.5 g to 123.3 g in weight. Changes in biological parameters (weight, length, gonadosomatic index, hepatosomatic index and condition factor) were examined in order to provide information on the spawning period and reproductive cycle in the gulf. Overall sex ratio was 1 : 1.52 in favour of females. The reproductive season extends from March to June, with a spawning activity peak in May. Total length at sexual maturity was 10.5 ± 0.22 cm (males) and 10.6 ± 0.3 cm (females). The results of this study could help to establish a recommended minimum capture size.  相似文献

Background  

Bacteriocins are very diverse group of antimicrobial peptides produced by a wide range of bacteria and known for their inhibitory activity against various human and animal pathogens. Although many bacteriocins are now well characterized, much information is still missing or is unavailable to potential users. The assembly of such information in one central resource such as a database would therefore be of great benefit to the exploitation of these bioactive molecules in the present context of increasing antibiotic resistance and natural bio-preservation need.  相似文献

The most common gurnard species in the Gulf of Gabes (Tunisia) are Chelidonichthys lastoviza and C. obscurus. These two species were collected by trawl nets between February 2000 and July 2002 at depths ranging from 80 to 150 meters. In the laboratory the stomach contents were examined for diet assessment and to determine diet variation in relation to fish size, season and sex. The importance of different prey items was analysed utilising several feeding indexes, while diet overlap was tested using Schoener's index and the null model test. The two species showed similar diets, with the same qualitative and quantitative composition. Basic food consisted of crustaceans, mostly mysids and decapods. For Chelidonichthys lastoviza:Gastrosaccus sp. (F = 48.57%), Anchialina agilis (F = 30.57%) and Sicyonia carinata (F = 21.71%); for Chelidonichthys obscurus:Gastrosaccus sp. (F = 80.95%), A. agilis (F = 55.41%) and Pontocaris lacazei (F = 15.15%). A change in food composition based on fish size was observed in both species: mysids more frequently in the diet of small specimens, and decapods in the largest fishes. Seasonal variation in their diet was also recorded. The two fishes showed a significantly higher number of empty stomachs in late autumn and winter. Regardless of species and size class, a biologically significant diet overlap was observed between C. lastoviza and C. obscurus. This result may indicate a lack of competition among triglid species size‐class combinations or strong competition that has not yet led to resource portioning.  相似文献
