Sixty seven-days-old plants of Ammi majus L. were subjected for 46 d to sand culture at varying concentrations of NaCl, i.e. 0 (control), 40, 80, 120, and 160 mM. Increasing salt concentrations caused a significant reduction in fresh and dry masses of both shoots and roots as well as seed yield. However, the adverse effect of salt was more pronounced on seed yield than biomass production at the vegetative stage. Calculated 50 % reduction in shoot dry mass occurred at 156 mM (ca.15.6 mS cm?1), whereas that in seed yield was at 104 mM (ca.10.4 mS cm?1). As in most glycophytes, Na+ and Cl? in both shoots and roots increased, whereas K+ and Ca2+ decreased consistently with the successive increase in salt level of the growth medium. Plants of A. majusmaintained markedly higher K+/Na+ ratios in the shoots than those in the roots, and the ratio remained more than 1 even at the highest external salt level (160 mM). Net photosynthetic (PN) and transpiration (E) rates remained unaffected at increasing NaCl, and thus these attributes had a negative association with salt tolerance of A. majus. Proline content in the shoots increased markedly at the higher concentrations of salt. Essential oil content in the seed decreased consistently with increase in external salt level. Overall, A. majusis a moderately salt tolerant crop whose response to salinity is associated with maintenance of high shoot K+/Na+ ratio and accumulation of proline in shoots, but PN had a negative association with the salt tolerance of this crop. 相似文献

The genetic basis of plant height at various growth stages and the degree of indetermination of plant height in six mungbean genotypes (NM 92, 6601, NM 89, VC 1560D and VC 3902A) were assessed through half diallel cross. Cultivars, 6601 and NM 92, were the best general combiner for pre-flowering dry matter accumulation and minimum increase in plant height from first flower to 90% pods maturity, respectively. For these traits, the combination NM 92 x NM 89 was the best specific combiner of all the crosses. Both additive and dominant gene effects controlled the inheritance of plant height at first pod and to 90% pods maturity, degree of indetermination of plant height (DDh) from first flower to first pod maturity (DDh1), DDh from first flower to 90% pods maturity (DDh2) and DDh from first pod maturity to 90% pods maturity (DDh3). Plant height at first flower was additively inherited. The additive gene action was predominant as compared to dominant gene action for all the traits examined. High narrow and broad sense heritability estimates for DDh2 showed that better response to selection is possible for the development of mungbean genotypes with minimum increase in plant height during post-flowering development. 相似文献
To prospectively determine whether multi-parametric MRI (mpMRI) - contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) correlated, imaging-guided target biopsy (TB) method could improve the detection of prostate cancer in re-biopsy setting of patients with prior negative biopsy.
Methods
From 2012 to 2014, a total of 42 Korean men with a negative result from previous systematic biopsy (SB) and elevated prostate-specific antigen underwent 3T mpMRI and real-time CEUS guided TB. Target lesions were determined by fusion of mpMRI and CEUS. Subsequently, 12-core SB was performed by a different radiologist. We compared core-based cancer detection rates (CaDR) using the generalized linear mixed model (GLIMMIX) for each biopsy method.
Results
Core-based CaDR was higher in TB (17.92%, 38 of 212 cores) than in SB (6.15%, 31 of 504 cores) (p < 0.0001; GLIMMIX). In the cancer-positive TB cores, CaDR with suspicious lesions by mpMRI was higher than that by CEUS (86.8% vs. 60.5%, p= 0.02; paired t-test) and concordant rate between mpMRI and CEUS was significantly different with discordant rate (48% vs. 52%, p=0.04; McNemar’s test).
Conclusion
The mpMRI-CEUS correlated TB technique for the repeat prostate biopsy of patients with prior negative biopsy can improve CaDR based on the number of cores taken. 相似文献
Ethanol extracts of Psoraleae semen (PSE) are used in Korean folk medicine for tuberculostasis, nycturia, sarcoma, inflammation, and cancer. We investigated the utility of P. semen extract for the suppression of angiogenesis and adipogenesis. Eighteen natural products were screened using anti-angiogenesis experiments, and one candidate product was identified. Psoraleae semen provided dosedependent inhibition of angiogenesis, adipogenesis, and cell adhesion in vitro and weight loss in mice in vivo. The anti-angiogenenic efficacy of PSE was superior to that of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) obtained from green tea leaves. The expression of angiogenesis and adipogenesisrelated signal molecules was reduced by increasing the doses of PSE. A diet supplemented with PSE provided more effective weight loss in LB mice than did orlistat, a representative synthetic diet drug, which also caused hairloss in LB mice. P. semen may be a useful antiadipogenic compound if these in vitro results are replicated under in vivo conditions. 相似文献
Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) with eosinophilic mucin is considered rare in Korea. The object of this study was to categorize CRS patients with eosinophilic mucin into several groups and compared the groups based on their clinicopathological and radiological features.
Methods
In total, 105 CRS patients with eosinophilic mucin from four tertiary medical centers which are located at Chungcheong province of Korea were included for this study. The patients were divided into four groups for analysis, based on the presence or absence of an allergy (A) to a fungus or fungal element (F) in the mucin. The following were the four groups: allergic fungal rhinosinusitis (AFRS, A+F+), AFRS-like sinusitis (A+F?), eosinophilic fungal rhinosinusitis (EFRS, A?F+), and eosinophilic mucin rhinosinusitis (EMRS, A?F?). Their clinical manifestation, the presence of associated disease, radiological finding, treatment, and treatment outcome were reviewed and compared.
Results
There were no patients in the AFRS-like sinusitis group, 47 patients were assigned to the AFRS group, 27 to the EFRS group, and 41 to the EMRS group. Patients of AFRS group showed a significantly higher association with allergic rhinitis than did the other groups. The mean total serum IgE level in the AFRS patients was significantly higher than in the EFRS and EMRS patients. In the AFRS group and EFRS group, 67.6% and 74.1% had unilateral disease, respectively, in contrast to the EMRS group (4.9%). The mean Hounsfield unit values of the area of high attenuation in the AFRS patients were significantly higher than those in the other groups.
Conclusions
Significant clinicopathological differences existed among the subgroups of CRS with eosinophilic mucin. AFRS tends to be an allergic response to colonizing fungi in atopic individuals. In EFRS, local allergies to fungi might play a role in the disease. EMRS is thought to be unconnected with fungal allergies, and it showed different form compared with the AFRS and EFRS groups.
A new actinomycete strain designated MITKK-103 was isolated from the soil of a flowerpot using a humic acid agar medium. The newly isolated strain was able to produce a large amount of actinomycin X2 even under nonoptimized growing conditions and serves as a promising source of this antibiotic. Actinomycin X2 has higher cytotoxicity toward cultured human leukemia (HL-60) cells than does actinomycin D, and it induces cell death via apoptosis. A nearly complete 16S ribosomal DNA (rDNA) sequence from the isolate was determined and found to have high identity (98.5–100%) with Streptomyces galbus, Streptomyces griseofuscus, and Streptomyces padanus, indicating that MITKK-103 belongs to the genus Streptomyces. The isolate clustered with species belonging to the S. padanus clade in a 16S-rDNA-based phylogenetic tree and showed 75% overall homology to S. padanus ATCC 25646 in DNA–DNA relatedness analysis. Although the growth of the isolate was somewhat different from the three species mentioned, the strain MITKK-103 most closely resembles S. padanus on the basis of the morphological and phenotypic characteristics, phylogenetic analysis, and genotypic data. As such, this is the first report of a strain of S. padanus capable of producing actinomycins. 相似文献
