Despite our growing understanding of the impacts of invasive plants on ecosystem structure and function, important gaps remain, including whether native and exotic species respond differently to plant invasion. This would elucidate basic ecological interactions and inform management. We performed a meta‐analytic review of the effects of invasive plants on native and exotic resident animals. We found that invasive plants reduced the abundance of native, but not exotic, animals. This varied by animal phyla, with invasive plants reducing the abundance of native annelids and chordates, but not mollusks or arthropods. We found dissimilar impacts among “wet” and “dry” ecosystems, but not among animal trophic levels. Additionally, the impact of invasive plants increased over time, but this did not vary with animal nativity. Our review found that no studies considered resident nativity differences, and most did not identify animals to species. We call for more rigorous studies of invaded community impacts across taxa, and most importantly, explicit consideration of resident biogeographic origin. We provide an important first insight into how native and exotic species respond differently to invasion, the consequences of which may facilitate cascading trophic disruptions further exacerbating global change consequences to ecosystem structure and function.  相似文献

The strain BYT-1, capable of utilizing ODAP/DAP as a sole source of nitrogen and carbon was identified as Psuedomonas stutzeri by various microbial and biochemical tests. Transformation experiments showed that the ODAP utilizing property Is encoded by the plasmid. Restriction of plasmid DNA with Pstl, followed by cloning of fragments and screening of ODAP containing medium, led to the isolation of a clone with insert size of ?3.3 kb, which encoded ODAP metabolizing property. The growth and ODAP/DAP utilization by this clone (TB) was almost similar to that of the wild type strain.  相似文献

The lipid level (fresh weight basis) of Cuscuta reflexa Roxb. was related to the lipid content of the host plants Meilicago saliva L., Helianthus annuus L., Pisum sativum L. and Lantana camara L. Parasitizing by the dodder significantly increased the total lipid level of the hosts. The increase was mainly due to enhancement in the neutral lipid fraction.
The level of phospholipid in the parasite was always higher than in its hosts. Phospholidyl choline and phosphatidyl ethanolamine constituted about 65% of the total phospholipid of Cuscuta. This was followed by phosphatidyl inositol (ca 20%) and phosphatidyl glycerol (ca 12%). Phosphatidic acid constituted only ca 3% of the phospholipids of Cuscuta. Although the total phospholipid levels of various host plants were not affected as a result of the infection by Cuscuta, a significant decrease occurred in the levels of phosphatidyl eholine and phosphatidyl ethanolamine as well as marked increases in phosphatidyl inositol and phosphatidic acid. The infected tissue showed an increase in phospholipase D activity as compared with the controls. The results have been discussed in relation to changes in permeability of the infected tissue.  相似文献

An extracellular chitosanase produced by Rhodotorula gracilis CFR-1 that catalyses a limited degradation of chitosan with no detectable generation of glucosamine or reducing groups was identified. Ultracentrifugation, polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and gel permeation studies suggest that chitosan of average molecular mass 36000 Da was reduced by the enzymic catalysis to nearly one-fourth this size without further hydrolysis of the products. The enzyme, produced constitutively by this yeast, was partially purified and some of its properties were studied.  相似文献

Experiments were conducted to observe the feeding and food selection-behaviour of different instars of the pod-borer Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) in response to choices between the cultivated and a wild species of Cajanus. First and second instars fed upon a cultivated variety of Cajanus cajan in preference to a wild species, C. scarabaeoides and on flowers of C. cajan, rather than pods or leaves of C. cajan. First and second instars preferred pods of C. scarabaeoides with trichomes removed to pods with trichomes present. All instars fed upon pods of C. cajan rather than those of C. scarabaeoides. Solvent extraction of the pod surfaces affected the feeding of larvae, in some instances. They preferred the unextracted pods of C. cajan; the extracted pod of C. scarabaeoides (first and second instars) or the unextracted pod of C. scarabaeoides (fourth and fifth instars). Glass-fibre disc bioassays showed that the methanol, hexane and water extracts from the pod-surface of C. cajan stimulated the feeding of fifth instars. The experiments have shown that characteristics of C. cajan, such as either the compounds present or the type and distribution of trichomes on the plant surfaces, can determine the susceptibility of C. cajan to pod-borer larvae.  相似文献

The genus Amycolatopsis is of industrial importance, as its species are known to produce commercial antibiotics. It belongs to the family Pseudonocardiaceae and has an eventful taxonomic history. Initially strains were identified as Streptomyces, then later as Nocardia. However, based on biochemical, morphological and molecular features, the genus Amycolatopsis, containing seventeen species, was created. The development of molecular genetic techniques for this group has been slow. The scarcity of molecular genetic tools including stable plasmids, antibiotic resistance markers, transposons, reporter genes, cloning vectors, and high efficiency transformation protocols has made progress slow, but efforts in the past decade have led to the development of cloning vectors and transformation methods for these organisms. Some of the cloning vectors have broad host range (pRL series) whereas others have limited host range (pMEA300 and pMEA100). The cloning vector pMEA300 has been completely sequenced, while only the minimal replicon (pA-rep) has been sequenced from pRL plasmids. Direct transformation of mycelia and electroporation are the most widely applicable methods for transforming species of Amycolatopsis. Conjugational transfer from Escherichia coli has been reported only in the species A. japonicum, and gene disruption and replacements using homologous recombination are now possible in some strains.
