Summary The authors examined 734 sensitised patients living in four localities in Liguria (Genoa, Savona, Pietra Ligure and Sanremo). The commonest source of sensitisation (62.7%) was Urticaceae (Parietaria), followed by Poaceae (52.5%) andOlea europaea L. (24.0%). A survey of airborne pollens revealed a greater presence of Urticaceae and Poaceae in Genoa and of Oleaceae in Pietra Ligure and Sanremo.  相似文献

The histological development of fertilized ovules during fruit-set and development in pea ( Pisum sativum L. cv. Alaska) has been investigated. Killing the ovules on day 0 (anthesis) or day 1 prevented fruit-set and resulted in ovary degeneration. When the ovules were destroyed at later stages the ovaries developed, though the rate of growth of the pod was reduced significantly. Pollination in pea occurs normally the day before anthesis, and fertilization of the egg cell 32 to 48 h later. The first divisions of the zygote and endosperm nuclei started simultaneously (ca 48 h after pollination) but the endosperm developed more rapidly than the embryo; the embryo sac cavity was lined with free endosperm nuclei at the time of beginning suspensor elongation. Extracts of endosperm and ovule coats from ovules at day 7 after anthesis showed fruit-set activity in pea, the latter material having about 3 times more activity than the former per ovule basis. These results indicate that fertilization of the ovule is necessary for fruit-set in pea, and that compounds which induce fruit-set are probably synthesized in the ovules following fertilization.  相似文献

We describe a calcium transport that is sensitive to ruthenium red in liposomes reconstituted with mitochondrial extracts. This system is able to build an internally negative membrane potential, which allows the electrogenic influx of Ca2+ and Sr2+. Proteins with molecular weights higher than 35 kDa were incorporated to the vesicles, and enhanced the accumulation of the cation in an energy-dependent fashion.  相似文献

The effects of the auxins 2,4-D, NAA and IAA either alone or in combination with kinetin or BA were investigated to assess the morphogenetic potential of leaf, root and hypocotyl explants of Digitalis thapsi. Calluses were obtained from the three explants in basal medium without the addition of growth regulators and in leaves, the calluses formed roots. Application of 2,4-D, NAA or BA increased callus formation. The presence of NAA induced root formation and that of BA induced shoot formation via callus interphase. Indole-3-acetic acid alone only induced the generation of roots in the hypocotyl callus. Kinetin was ineffective in all the explants tested. Combinations of NAA with kinetin or BA were more effective in inducing organogenesis in leaf explants. Optimum responses were obtained in hypocotyl and root explants by using IAA in combination with BA, the highest rate of shoot regeneration being observed in hypocotyl explants.Rooting of the differentiated shoots was readily achieved in media without growth regulators. Lipid extracts of the red algaGracilaria longa were studied by1H- and13C-NMR spectroscopy. Peaks in the13C-NMR spectra attributable to sterols, chlorophylls and carotenoids allowed free and acylated cholesterol, chlorophylla and lutein to be identified as the most abundant components of these classes. A content of 0.5 ± 0.1 μmoles of total cholesterol/g wet alga was estimated from the1H-NMR spectrum, which also allowed the determination of the phosphatidylcholine/total lipid molar ratio (9.5 ± 0.5%). The13C-NMR spectroscopic experiments provided information on the position of the double bonds on the fatty acid residues. A comparison between NMR spectra of lipid extracts obtained for wet and dried alga showed that the alga undergoes both a dramatic peroxidation and some glycolipid degradation during the drying process.  相似文献

We have previously described a preferential reduction in the secretory response to nutrient secretagogues in pancreatic mouse islets maintained in culture after in vitro exposure to streptozotocin (SZ). This reduction was associated with an impaired substrate metabolism at the mitochondrial level. To further clarify this issue, mouse pancreatic islets were exposed in vitro to 2.2 mM SZ for 30 min. At 4 h after SZ treatment ultrastructural changes were apparent in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi areas of the B-cells. However, 2 and 6 days following SZ exposure the B-cells appeared well preserved, except for a marked decrease in the number of insulin-containing secretory granules. A morphometric analysis of the B-cells 6 days after SZ exposure showed a normal B-cell size and a normal volume fraction of B-cell mitochondria. However, there was a decrease in total islet size and a 13% decrease in the volume fraction of B-cells in the islets. These mouse islets exhibited a decreased content of the mitochondrial DNA-encoded cytochrome b mRNA, as evaluated by dot-blot analysis. As a whole, the data obtained indicate that SZ treatment does not induce a decrease in the number of mitochondria or long-lasting ultrastructural damage to this organelle. However, there is a clear decrease in the cytochrome b mRNA, suggesting that SZ can induce damage to the mitochondrial DNA.  相似文献

Activity of eight leg muscles has been monitored for six test subjects while pedalling a bicycle on rollers in the laboratory. Each electromyogram (EMG) data channel was digitized at a sampling rate of 2 kHz by a minicomputer. Data analysis entailed generating plots of both EMG activity regions and integrated EMG (IEMG). For each test subject, data were recorded for five cases of pedalling conditions. The different pedalling conditions were defined to explore a variety of research hypotheses. This exploration has led to the following conclusions: Muscular activity levels of the quadriceps are influenced by the type of shoes worn and activity levels increase with soft sole shoes as opposed to cycling shoes with cleats and toeclips. EMG activity patterns are not strongly related to pedalling conditions (i.e. load, seat height and shoe type). The level of muscle activity, however, is significantly affected by pedalling conditions. Muscular activity bears a complex relationship with seat height and quadriceps activity level decreases with greater seat height. Agonist (i.e. hamstrings) and antagonist (i.e. quadriceps) muscles of the hip/knee are active simultaneously during leg extension. Regions of peak activity levels, however, do not overlap. The lack of significant cocontraction of agonist/antagonist muscles enables muscle forces during pedalling action to be computed by solving a series of equilibrium problems over different regions of the crank cycle. Cell surface antigenic changes associated with differentiation of the rat oocyte and early embryo have been demonstrated with a monoclonal antibody (anti-OA-1). Antigen is first detectable coincident with initiation of oocyte growth, is a constant feature of all growing oocytes and displays a redistribution during meiotic maturation. Following fertilization, antigen is detectable on the surface of the embryo through the four-cell stage. This first monospecific marker for the rat oocyte and embryo should prove useful in probing structure/function relationships in oocyte growth, meiotic maturation fertilization, and/or early embryonic development.  相似文献

Transport regulation by different metabolizable and nonmetabolizable sugars was studied in human fibroblasts. Sugars were classed as glucose-like (D-mannose, 3-0-methyl-D-glucose, thio-D-glucose, and D-allose) and starvation-like (D-galactose, D-fructose, L-glucose, D-xylose, 6-deoxy-D-glucose and 2-deoxy-D-glucose) based on their competence in curbing glucose starvation enhanced transport. No significant correlation existed between the ability of a sugar to curb hexose transport and the KI of that sugar in inhibiting hexose transport. Independence of the transport curb from glucose metabolism was observed since nonmetabolizable analogs of D-glucose when substituted for D-glucose in the culture medium effected glucose [i.e. 3-0-methyl-D-glucose (3-OMG)] and starvation-like (i.e. 6- and 2-deoxy-D-glucose) effects. The KI of inhibition pf 2-deoxy-D-glucose transport for 3-OMG was 8.5 mM, similar to those obtained for 6-deoxyglucose and 2-deoxyglucose on 2-deoxyglycose transport (7.5 and 3.5 mM, respectively) and on 3-0-methylglucose transport (3.5 and 2.5 mM, respectively). An equimolar mixture of D-glucose and 3-OMG (5.55 mM each) was more effective than 11.1 mM D-glucose or 3-OMG alone in curbing hexose transport or reversing hexose starvation induced increases in transport. The effect of 3-OMG may be independent of glucose metabolism but it is possible that 3-OMG structurally mimics a metabolite of glucose that may interact with intracellular regulators of carrier degradation and or expression.  相似文献
