Sharks at the cladodont and hybodont level (Paleozoic and Mesozoic) have blunt fangs and crushing teeth. These are covered by a thin sculptured uniform "enamel" cap, with a high compressive strength. The radiation of the modern sharks in the middle Mesozoic leads primarily to a broad spectrum of different sharks with a fang, or cutting tooth dentition. This radiation is accompanied by modifications of anatomical characters of the shark's body but also by the development of three new "enamel" types, which give the teeth bending and compressive strength.  相似文献

Modeling epistasis in genomic selection is impeded by a high computational load. The extended genomic best linear unbiased prediction (EG-BLUP) with an epistatic relationship matrix and the reproducing kernel Hilbert space regression (RKHS) are two attractive approaches that reduce the computational load. In this study, we proved the equivalence of EG-BLUP and genomic selection approaches, explicitly modeling epistatic effects. Moreover, we have shown why the RKHS model based on a Gaussian kernel captures epistatic effects among markers. Using experimental data sets in wheat and maize, we compared different genomic selection approaches and concluded that prediction accuracy can be improved by modeling epistasis for selfing species but may not for outcrossing species.  相似文献

Newton's second law of motion for rotating bodies and potential flow theory is used to mathematically model the closing process of a pivoting disc prosthetic heart valve in mitral position. The model predicts closure to be dependent upon disc curvature, eccentricity, mass, diameter, density, opening angle and fluid properties. Experiments using two commercially available prostheses are shown to give good correlation with the theory for large opening angles. Divergence between theory and experiment occur at small opening angles because of the limitation of the potential flow assumption.  相似文献

The angular momentum balance is solved numerically for a size 29 mm CarboMedics prosthetic heart valve. The lift force is estimated from potential flow theory, while the drag force is estimated from the lift force and a blunt body empiricism. Buoyancy and gravitational effects are calculated based on the assumption of homogeneous leaflets. Other assumptions include uniform flow, negligible friction at the pivot axis, negligible viscous damping and fluid inertance, and a symmetry flow condition. Oscillations are predicted in the opening dynamics in the range of 2-25 Hz, for flow rates through one-half of the orifice in the range of 0.1-10.0 l/min. The frequency of these oscillations is dependent upon the orientation of the leaflet in relation to the gravitational field and the magnitude of the flow rate. In vivo and in vitro measurements by other investigators demonstrate similar effects of gravity and flow rate, with flutter frequencies of the order of 10-100 Hz. Excitation frequencies, based on vortex shedding, are estimated to be of the order 2-200 Hz, for the range of flow rates of the theoretical model. These results suggest that the natural frequency of this rotational second order system may, in theory, be a contributing factor to the flutter observed in bileaflet cardiac valve prostheses. The clinical significance of this finding is yet to be established.  相似文献
